I was a punk rocker during this time and we always called the new wave kids skippys. It was a sad day to see Billy Idol go to the Skippy side, but hey he made more money selling out. He's not even that old where is he , but they say it's better to sell out and fade away.
@@claudballs5679 I don’t think it’s wise to admit you’re a Gatekeeper. Gatekeepers aren’t fans of or loyal to anything/anyone but their own opinions of how things should be. In fact, Gatekeepers are the biggest sellouts. Especially those that claim to be Punk. Gatekeeping is the least Punk thing anyone can do.
The great thing about this song that everyone doesn't get is that he wrote this song about his little sister who said she was getting married to a guy she had known for three weeks. This was his response to it!
I’m so glad I grew up in the 80’s!!!! Being a teenager in the 80’s was the best! Not only did we get to grow up with the wonderful music of the 80’s but we also had the classic music of the 70’s!!!! Back when music was REAL MUSIC! When you had to have talent or you didn’t make it.
Billy's stage name came from a nickname one of his teachers gave him, called him Idle Billy, but he got catapulted into the mainstream thanks to mtv, he was one of the ones to adapt to music videos and get heavy rotation.
As kick ass as Billy Idol is, his songs would not be nearly as awesome without his longtime guitarist, Steve Stevens. He plays understated as the song requires and then rips it up when the song needs it. Steve's guitar parts are melodic and memorable while still being flashy as all get out and fiery! He and Billy are a great musical team.
What a coincidence!! I just saw Billy in concert 2 days ago, here in Vancouver 🇨🇦 With the legendary Steve Stevens on guitar. First time for me. Great reaction to a great song!! This was on HEAVY rotation back in the 80s. Especially on Canada's MTV (Much Music). That, and Rebel Yell. By the way, Billy said during the concert that Rebel Yell is his all-time fave of his repertoire. The rumour back in the day was that he wrote this song about his actual sister. She was pregnant and about to get married and he didn't approve.. Who knows if that's true though?🤷 Billy Idol: Huge fan of the Doors and Elvis Presley. Quite a few more you could react to...Eyes Without A Face, Flesh For Fantasy, Rock The Cradle of Love, Dancing With Myself, Hot In The City, and his wicked cover of the Doors' LA Woman.
Oh man, did you say the LOST BOYS SOUNDTRACK? That was amazing! Now I gotta go listen to it…😊. Loved Billy Idol “Cradle of Love” and his cover of “Mony, Mony were excellent 😉
From American Songwriter the craft of music: Though Idol is singing hey little sister, what have you done, the song isn’t entirely about his actual sister Jane Broad. At the time of writing the song, his sister was getting married and pregnant, which helped inspire the song, but it wasn’t all about her-“sister” is more of a slang in England for girlfriend, similar to “Bae.” The song also addressed his rock star life and leaving part of his former life behind.
Yeah starting as lead singer of Generation X he was decidedly Punk but his shift into his solo career moved him more into a punk/rock/pop mash-up. His real name is William Broad, and just a few years ago, he got his US citizenship. Was pretty awesome watching how happy he was that day
Morning fellas! Missed live with the tribe now that I'm back at work:(. What a blast from the past! As a kid I had the biggest crush on billy idol! "Eyes without a face" is one of my favs by him! Good vote tribe!!!❤️🤓
From what I read, he Billy Idol met Steve Stevens (his bad ass guitarist) in New York, Billy was going to the underground dance clubs. He liked the scene and saw how people were into it. So he mixed that beat and Stevens added the hard rock guitar with punk. It hit hard.
If Hollywood dug this so much, your next Billy Idol video should be "Cradle Of Love", with the official MTV video. It is very...interesting and enjoyable. And a little twisted.
Billy Idle always ended up on my playlists with Sister of Mercy, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Bauhaus and the Cure. Gothic rock post-punk new wave ish?? Still, I love his music still to the this day.
is so funny, i was at cousins wedding, and the band played this the other night...and they also played thr Clash 🙏 thank f**k. You shud check out Murderdolls version of White wedding!
Y'all should've grown up in the 80s watching MTV, it was the fun part to see if adults' heads would pop off because of what you were watching. I had an aunt nearly keel over when she saw me watching Lita Ford & Ozzy's Close Your Eyes Forever .... and I knew all the words. Try *Cradle Of Love* ..... that got some people fuming & talking, at least in my area.
Worked backstage at a Billy Idol concert in the early 80's.... He and Steve (the guitarist) didn't know what planet they were on but it was still and epic time....
When someone who has been off cocaine relapses and begins to do it again, it is called a "white wedding". "I've been away for so long I let you go for so long It's a nice day to start again It's a nice day for a white wedding" -Billy Idol's "White Wedding", referring to relapsing on cocaine.
Idol is classic and always good tunes to jam to. I will always remember this song, not only from when I was little. But the day I got married, the weather ended up dropping 8.5 inchs of heavy snow. All my Aunts and Uncles were singing this as we got ready. And we were up in the mountains at a camp for my wedding. Great memories.
Freaking everyone had Billy Idol in their cassette case back in the day! How many times could you hear “Rebel Yell” when cruising the strip on Fri/Sat nights! (He did a great rendition of “LA Woman”, you guys should check it out…)
Billy Idol came out of the 70’s punk scene in London in a group called Generation X. This name was chosen because he and the other members were of this generation. The group didn’t last long but because of punk becoming more popular for the time he was able to transition from just punk to rock. There’s still some punk in the music but it’s more rock than punk. This is also the case for a lot of punk groups of that time examples include The Clash and The Fixx. You might like Flesh for Fantasy or Dancing With Myself.
What i have heard is that the song is talking about his little sister. She was talking about having a wedding and his comment on that was "pfft, like you would wear white at your wedding"
Billy was a punk rocker until he decided that he wanted to be home owner. hehe But he always kept a bit of that punk attitude. When he was the singer in Generation X, he was in a club one night and Led Zeppelin happened to be there. Billy decided he was going to tell them that they had become boring old farts. He strutted over, but before he could say anything, Richard Cole, Zep's manager (and a former professional wrestler,) decked him. Billy had the good sense to join up with Steve Stevens, a criminally underrated guitarist and songwriter. I am a big fan of them both. Go to a show if you get the chance.
Dude, Billy Idol was KING, back in the day! I saw him on the Rebel Yell tour and it rocked my world! He played with Steve Stevens on guitar and that guy was a BADASS! Check out tunes from Rebel Yell and from his album "Whiplash Smile"!! WS is an amazing album. Tons of sick guitar work and cool combination of electronica and Punk/Metal (with an Atomic Cowboy-vibe)!!
Billy Idol always reminds me of Jay Gordon from the band ORGY. In a good way they both have commanding voices. Billy Idol "Cradle of Love" the video is wild. Thank me later lol. Aiden did a good cry little sister remake
Chester Bennington did a cover of this song in 2016 with Kings of Chaos. Kings of Chaos are a group of rock musicians who all like to play covers of 70s, 80's, and some 90s rock songs.
