Great tutorial, thanks very much! I just removed the cam stack and discovered the nylon gear was cracked. The symptoms were that the machine would slow down at the same spot at each cam gear rotation.
Hi, Thanks for the video , I have Bernina 830 and that white gear is missing for my embroidery discs. Can you please show the same procedure for Bernina 830. looks like Bernina 830 is more complicated.
What is the part that you oil at 7:10? It appears to link to the presser foot shaft, but doesn't have any interaction I can ascertain. There's a cam beneath the black lever, the pivot of which you're oiling, but also a spring to hold it off the cam that bears on the rear of the case.
Thank you for the video very informative. I wonder if you have a video on repairing a Bernina 707 that won't stop!!! I have opened motor and footplate to find leaking capacitor but not sure if this is more a job for an expert. Would appreciate your advice
Capacitor in the foot pedal is to stop interference with radio as far as I know. I removed mine. There could be a mechanical problem with the electrical wiper in the foot pedal. But I have to note that I am only an amateur and my advice could be wrong and misleading. If you know what a capacitor is you can't be too far from a solution. But since these sewing machines plug straight into the wall socket there is potential for a very nasty electric shock if you mess up. I am not sure the comments section of a film like this is the best place for advice whether it be given or taken. A repair shop might be wise, and they could check over the electrics for it's safe operation as the same time as fixing the fault.
Great tutorial, there is also a version this machine where you need to loosen only one screw to remove the axle of the cam gear. Even when you are very careful not to move any mechanical parts, the sideways movement of the needle might be off because the gear 'jumped grooves' when it got broken. And then you get the messed-up zig-zag that some people mentioned. But that is pretty easy to fix. You just need to unscrew one screw and make sure that the needle switches from one side to another when she's going up en down. In the highest position the needle should be in the center. If that timing is wrong, the needle switches sides when in the cloth, thus pushing it around. Sadly, i can not ad a picture of the location of this screw (or can i?). But when you have the machine facing its front to you, the screw you need is on the main horizontal axle, just right to the cam gear you probably just replaced. Loosening this screw lets you change the vertical position of the needle independently from its sideways movement. That allows you to fix that messed up zig-zag.
Thanks for taking the time to add this vital instruction. All the best, Lucas . Here is the film that describes it ruclips.net/video/JPQBg4H5wuw/видео.html
Good afternoon, how to replace a Bernina minimatik 707 bulb? The bulb itself is not unscrewed. I don't know how to remove the protective plate, there are many bolts that cannot be unscrewed if you just open the door with a light bulb.
Thanks for this tutorial. I found one of these machines in a thrift store and you showed how to make it hum I notice that your foot pedal squeaks when you use it. Can anything be done for the squeaking noise?
I have had them apart in the past, they are not too complicated. I have had leaking capacitors on machines this old, I think there is one in the motor house, and one in the foot pedal but that may be a suppressor to stop making radio interference. WD 40 dries out quite quickly, get some sewing machine oil in there. Do you expect heavy use of your machine? regards, Lucas
Hey! Any idea what might be causing very short stitch on my 707. Only weirdly acting part i can fine is that little lever on right side, it's kind of loose and doesn't have any mechanical connection to anywhere, weird.
Hello I just got one of these wonders B 707. How do you OPEN the top so easy. Which screw and where is to be opened first to loosen? Thank you very much!
Hello! Thank you so much for your videos! I just got myself this machine and even though it hasn't worked at all since I got it, your videos have made me fall in love with the machine and I desperately want to get it in working order! The problem is that there seems to be a poor connection of the motor and the needle. It doesn't stitch. The motor runs but needle isn't working. I looked at the machine inside and out, oiled everything, checked the screws - and noticed that this same plastic part - as on your vid - is split. Is this caising the problem? Where can I get the spare part? Thank you so much in advance! I'm desperate to get this machine to work, I recognize the beauty of it's making.
www.colessewingcentre.co.uk/index.asp?Sew+into+Spring&Marnewsletter& you could try this company for the part. There are other problems it could be too. Does all of the internal mechanism turn with the motor, if not check the drive belt is correctly tensioned. There are still many repair shops that will work on this model.
Is it normal get / hear a low knocking noise when doing a Zig-Zag ? My Bernina 807 is making a low pitched knocking noise while doing a Zig-Zag and I am wondering is this normal due to swing of the needle from left to right .
Hello, you need your advice whether it's worth buying a sewing machine Bernina 707 minimatic for $ 200? The machine is needed for home-made sewing silk, velvet, knitwear, lace, curtain. Check the machine with the mechanic there is no opportunity. The seller says that the machine is working.
Hi! Did you had to re time the feed dogs after replacing the gear? Because with my new gear the zig zag is messed uo...the needle moves while still in the fabric... but if I return to the broken gear the zig zag its perfect...

Hi , good evening Mr. Lucas . Thanks for your reply. I did post videos on Facebook Vintage Bernina sewing machine group. If you don’t mind could I request you to have a look at it and let me know what you think of this low noise knocking sound. I look forward to hearing from you soon. Regards & thanks, Ram.
It is a sprocket being replaced, the pattern cam does not change the timing of the mechanism. Due care is needed. This 707 has a very simple pattern cam without an indicator, if I remember correctly the 830 record has a more advanced pattern cam with an indicator which does have to be in the correct timing. If you are careful and take pictures during the process to help reassembly you should be ok. I don't remember this to be in the least bit difficult a repair.
@@LucasRichardStephens what about the case for a bernina 730? How do I retime after replacing the cam gear, because I moved the flywheel without recording the original position!. Thank you
@@dreamlessfull I don't know exactly, I still don't think it changes the timing, just the way the pattern function operates. I have changed this sprocket on a couple of 730s, but it is so long ago now it is a bit hazy. You should try finding the download of the workshop manual so that you can learn to adjust the timing in any case, but I am fairly sure I made the same mistake of moving the mechanism and the worst that happened was the patterns were not the same as the indicator.....? I don't use the patterns much anyway it was the straight stitch and zigzag I use.

have a look inside and see if the pattern cam or other gears are worn or damaged, look for broken teeth. Look for loose parts.
Will this work on a 807?
I am fairly sure they are very alike. If there are some differences this will still give you a guide.
