When something is deliberately trying to be cute, I just kind of reject it?? It just is fake. It also just feels like it’s taking advantage of people who are lonely.
maybe im pushing it but I feel like all this cutesy stuff comes from acting like a child... which is rlly weird... considering that these same characters are sexualized... ik anime has a horrible p3do problem but you can see its influences on v-tubing

But he really didn't fully understand it. The point about not caring who's behind the character and Kizuna when the company was pretty much forced to make the three characters BECAUSE people cared about the OG voice actress and didn't want any switches to be done. You can't one day exchange Korone's VA and expect it to be smooth sailing, Hololive would have a company destroying backlash for it, other members would leave as they are often friends IRL, it'd be a disaster.
"I believe that most people aren't under the impression that this is a real girl with a real personality" you my friend, are giving humans too much credit.
streamers cant help but have their own personalities bleed into their characters. its the reason its really easy to find out past personas or roommates. the interaction *is* with a real person
they clearly know what they be doing bro. like that's their main goal. acting "cute" with that loli voice which is cringy as shit. staying anonymous and all that bullshit. no offense their main target are those Simps. but yk there are lot of talented small youtubers man. who are very good at games, musics and all that. these vtubers have 0 talents tbh...disappointing asf
@@JIREN972 lmao, your statement suddenly reminds me of Luna from Hololive. Lucky you, she's an actual talent and not just a simp-bait. Her piano/electone streams are amazing. She loves Dark Souls games and even played Mortal Shell recently.
I remember a girl in high school that said good luck in Japanese with a high pitched voice to everyone when she finished a test and the dead silence afterwards was awful
You're using the word "genuinely" incorrectly. Sure, they might actually act like that, but it's still not genuine. They've been brainwashed by media like anime/vtubers into thinking this is what people admire or what men want them to act like. I have met TONS of women that act like this, and truly believe it's their "authentic" self or whatever GenZ nonsense nowadays, but I promise you it's just a shell around a very sad, lonely girl who has no idea how to actually BE authentic because they are terrified of people disliking them. You might argue semantics, but part of being genuine is not worrying about what other people think and doing it because it's what YOU like, not because it's what OTHER people like. No one except otaku or incel like women who act like this. No one. Especially not actual women.
As hololive vtubers streamed for longer and became more comfortable to stray away from their canon lore, you’ll start to realise that yagoo is depressed
I wish there was an ogre Vtuber that when they start their streams they ask what the viewers are doing in their swamp with a stereotypically Scottish voice, and then proceed to react to cooking videos involving onions. I know my preferences are fringe at best.
A hating video with a decent level of open-mindedness, actual in-depth research and legitimate reasons that aren't just hating for the sole sake of hating? What we have here is a truly rare sight here indeed, and a commendable one at that!
The funniest Vtuber I saw was based in Scotland and he had the most heaviest Scottish accent ever. A highlight was how he announced that he'd BRB to take a dump. "AM BE RIGHT BACK CHAT. IVE GOT TO TEK A MASSIVE JOBBY"
honestly id find them less grating if so many vtubers didn't talk like babies. everytime they "break character" and talk like a normal person im immediately like okay maybe i could rock w this actually
I find them less grating for the ones that act horny all the time. Like there’s a time and place, but to sit in front of the camera, moaning and gooning, makes my stomach sink and cringe to the maximum
thats the most jarring part for me. theres one named ironmouse and she sang operatically and her voice sounded so mature and beautiful. and then immediately after she goes back to pretending to sound like a kid. and shes in her late 30s i think? i just hate it man 😭
I'm so glad you brought up the weird baby-like noises these VTubers make. That's one of my main complaints about them, when you said "Is this an episode of Teletubbies or Twitch" it perfectly summed up how I feel about it.
@@leetlefool7173 True, only the Nijisanji are the normal ones, but there are normal vtubers once you try to search for them. In my opinion, I still dislike vtubers so even if there's normal or insane vtuber, my mindset won't change the way it is. One of my fake friends like vtubers, and heck, I feel weirded out, I ended up leaving their friend's group only to realize my fake best friend also was a fan of it. I didn't mean in a resentment way, it was more like hated type to dislike so I hated vtuber. Same way with Genshin. I don't hate the game but the fandom made me hate even more
Same I hate that they mostly sound like lolis. Even the English ones. And the whole floaty animation ai they for is wierd. Sometimes their mouths move Sometimes it doesn't match what they're saying. It's all so make believe that is appauling.
It did for me already, lol. The first 5 Shorts I saw were about Vtubers. It’s gonna take me a while to get that heresy out of my recommended. Gotta get the damn Space Marines to purge these xenos.
You can basically identify the entire problem by having a vtuber(/female twitch streamer/influencer) explain, to her fanbase, how they might impress and date a girl like her.
some of them actually dive into this. like Suisei. If she doesn't like Gachikois (simps) she has said she does not encourage them. Because what they are in love with, it isn't real.
What creeps me out isnt the vtubers, its their popularity because I simply imagine the saddest isolated and vulnerable dude just grasping at a very unrealistic depiction of a woman for a form of parasocial dopamine hit + the points made in this vid
I didn't notice. Just the usual, a hundred different ways to proclaim to the world "I watch entertainment to affirm my biases". "Genuine" used as just a word for things that don't break the habit of having the same thought, endlessly repeating in your head, trying to find things to contrast against. That's what overthinking is, rolling in place never getting anywhere with your thought. That's this whole "I don't get it but I've completely figured it out and it bores me" oxymoron. Even nearing that realization then causes cringe, the world's most important emotion because everybody needs to know you feel it. The reality of "genuine " habits is just that they make you realize NOTHING, even about how exactly the same as "baby talk" they are.
@@gilgameshlfx7006 Im gonna say that 90 (or more) percent of those "VTweeters" are not actual Vtubers with a model, videos, or fan bases yet. They just say Vtuber because it's hip and trendy.
I don't understand this trend of """""art""""" channels that HAVE to be drama channels. It's just so bizarre. They can't just be like Aaron Blaise and Magic: The Gathering artists that just draw and teach.
Just to clarify about the Taiwan thing, it's even more ironic than that. The Chinese cannot actually access youtube, so like you said they used a VPN to use youtube. *They set their location as Taiwan.* So it's the Chinese's fault for the Taiwanese analytics even really existing, and they're upset... despite that if Taiwan wasn't a sovereign country they wouldn't have high speed access to youtube.
When your country is an authoritarian state that doesn't let you use youtube, but it's definitely the best country ever and is worth attacking people online to defend it's honor!
I find the baby talk disturbing. And extremely annoying. It's not cute to me any shape or form, I never encountered a real person who do this in real life, and would it happens, I would assume that person is very disturbed.
I like Vtubers but this is why I love your channel. You're never afraid to talk shit on something that is widely loved yet you still manage to make it really funny. Keep doing what you're doing Ravioli.
i honestly have no opinion on vtubers, except as an artist, i’m EXTREMELY interested in their models. i love the way they’re made, and i follow a couple artists who draw and sell gorgeous models. the process is just so fun :)
Same. I mostly only watch people because I’m impressed by certain things. Like I watch Markiplier because I’m impressed by Markilpliers’ ability to act and control his voice. I enjoy studying the V Tuber’s character design. For some reason, I’m fine with VR chat characters but not V tuber characters.
you give such a mature and detailed reason for not being a fan of "cute girls doing cute things" meanwhile I simply can't stand forced cuteness and there's nothing else to it lol. I'm a kpop fan, and every time I see one of those 20+ year old men get asked to act cute, I die a little inside.
the only aegyo from a kpop idol I accept is Chuu from Loona but for male idols I really hate the forced kind of aegyo where they sing a song in higher pitch or say something 😭 there are some naturally cute male idols tho
Its refreshing to see someone who doesn't like V-tubers but gives genuine criticism of why they feel the way they feel and doesn't just talk shit just because
@Milk Tea idk about everyone else,i just like em because they can be cute or stupidly entertaining. Let alone the fact that some of them are really talented in music, singing and art, which makes them really enjoyable. But i can see why people would feel uncomfortable with how much they can seem to act but then again, its part of the job. Some act more than others while others seem more natural than others. At the end of the day,its just different reasons why people watch them or hate them and thats fine. @@ScamboliReviews That's not really the case, at first we thought that they are gonna keep their avatars but it didn't happen. Apparently chinese management also wanted Coco gone.
You know what's kinda funny? After VTubers exploded in popularity, everyone just kind of forgot about Kizuna Ai, who was essentially one of the first. 5/21/21: I said ONE OF, you guys, I didn't say that Ai was the absolute first. Even still, to paraphrase from Google, "In late 2016, Kizuna AI, often considered to be the first VTuber, made her debut on RUclips, and was the first to coin and use the term "virtual RUclipsr". So I'm still quite close to being right.
Because Kizuna Ai was basically one of those variety shows for which, if you were not previously interested in that type of content without the vtuber aspect, of course you'd drop off.
the squeaky high pitched cutesy voices sound really infantilising and a lot of them are also sexualised which makes me SO uncomfortable, no grown woman has a voice that high
SAME I had a lot of trouble just bearing through the examples, I genuinely have no idea how people sit through, let alone ENJOY or find actually ‘cute’, that genre of content
You must be easily impressed or a 15 year old as in target audience for anitubers I guess, dude claims (more like he seems to brag about it lol) he done "72 hours of research" that's really not enough to get a good idea about a single chuuba let alone Vtubing as a whole. What it is it's a lot of semi-accurate information mixed with bullshit and glaring mistakes like suggesting that nijisanji copied Hololive while it was the other way round back in the day, also some random ramblings when it comes to making actual arguments it's all over the place, one of the worst takes I've seen so far honestly.
One critical part that was not quite correct is the claim that vtubers aren't genuine and they're a character. In truth, only a tiny portion of it is a character, and the "multiple people playing Kizuna Ai" experiment ended in a failure precisely because personality is so tied to their appeal. So this part doesn't really make much sense and seems like a lack of knowledge. What would make much more sense to address is how there are very popular Japanese youtubers out there who are not vtubers and do show their face, and yet somehow it's these avatar users that get international fame for some reason. Their personalities are the same as before they became vtubers, so why did adopting this avatar make them so famous? On one hand, you can feel happy about their newfound success, on the other hand, one feels a little sad that they are only famous by not showing their real face.
@@asdfasdfasdf1218 I wouldn't say a tiny portion of it is a character when they speak in high pitched voices, shout random "cute" phrases and generally behave in a way meant to appeal. No in depth topics or subjects spoken, lots of weird noises also for "cute" (or even sexual) appeal. No one behaves in this one-dimensional way in their daily lives. The personality appeal is that, in reality, there isn't one. Just "cute" behavior. The virtual avatar adds to this character because it's visually appealing, and mimics said behavior.
My favorite clips from vtubers are when they’re acting like real streamers, like that clip of rushia fucking screaming at her viewers for buying out all the candy she liked.
Hololive EN or basically any vtuber to me were in fact cringe as well because they tried going along with the cutesy persona they made up. Do you guys rember how Akai Haato and Peko were during their debut? But eventually a lot of them give up on that and just become meme(albeit reddit meme) versions of themselves and start just having fun. I think that's when they become entertaining to watch.
@@imjustlikedenji5954 i don't think HoloEN ever went along with a cutesy persona. I guess they sometimes act like that but most of the time they are not. Gura and Kiara are walking memes, Ame is a toxic gamer, Calli goes for a gap-moe aesthetic (mixing acting cute with acting deadpan as fuck and swearing alot), idk about Ina because i don't watch her but she give the vibe of "normal ones" from the video.
The charm in Zentreya comes from the chemistry she has with her chat. Also I don't give a shit about a vtuber's real gender. All I care for is entertainment.
"...unless you're a guy, then chances are slim..." Very true. There are some popular male vtubers, but their rise was less -- meteoric(?), than their female counterparts. The reasons for this are pretty obvious. [Edit: I see some comments about Kuzuha. I'm not discounting his - or, Kanae-san's - success, within the vtuber landscape. However, exceptions are not the rule. Look at 2020 superchat earnings, by quarter, and you'll find the Top 20+ are dominated by female vtubers. 2019 and prior, demonstrate this. 2021 will continue the trend -- unless all the girls graduate.]
rise of female vtubers is cause incels like hearing woman with high pitched voices and behaving like their favorite anime waifu character, to them its a fantasy which is really sad what this world has went to.
@@theslimegod2854 I prefer beta weebs since there are some weebs who can actually break the tradition and actually get a girl friend but then again usually when that happens they basically unweeb themselves depending on the relationship, kinda like me nowadays I barely watch anime at all and kinda feel bored of it, I do watch the vtubers but mainly for how funny that they are over the over cute or “sexy” ones or try to be one, I mainly like the vtubers that are mainly funny and not don’t try to be cute or sexy
My issue with it is that they're supposed to be cute and the subject of a parasocial relationship... and they're modeled after children and infantilized.
"This new faction is called 'The Antis'" For clarification's sake: They're a new faction introduced at that point in the video, but "anti" is just what haters are called in Japan, South-Korea, and most likely China, and other countries that dabble in the same otaku-weeby circles and are more likely to adopt those terms rather than "hater".
Well "antis" are a bit more stubborn than haters. From what I've gathered, "antis" seemed to be derived from the idea of being an anti-fan, similar to being "anti-social". A hater may intensely dislike something, but they won't actively try to disrupt and harm the things associated with it. Antis will follow the ones they hate, and actively try to ruin it, harm it, disrupt it, etc. similar to how a fan will follow the ones they are a fan.
@@VytoneJr True, there are old tales of Korean anti-fans leaving dead rats in the mailboxes of celebs they don't like (????!) so it's a bit of a step-up from how we use the term hater, yeah.
@@Raidanzoup also antis are not something exclusive to vtuber not by a long shot, idol groups and general celebrities in japan have had antis for decades already and yeah asian countries are pretty extreme with the whole "retribution" thing, like one idol after it was discovered she had a boyfriend was forced by her "fans" to shave her head, compared to that shit getting some idiots rambing on twitter doesnt seem that bad (albeit cancel culture is slowly getting up there)
@@carso1500 Yeah, I just mentioned celebs having antis in a comment an hour ago. And if you're referring to Minegishi from AKB48 it's been said for a long time that she decided to shave her head on her own without consulting anyone beforehand, and her and her groupmates have been known to joke around about it, and everyone involved is most likely tired of hearing about it. 48G fans in particular roll their eyes out of their heads whenever it's brought up again. She's actually graduating from her idol life with a concert scheduled for May, I think.
As someone that really loves Vtubers, I really found this very funny and entertaining. I personally just don't like watching live streams period, be it vtuber or real face. I got a short attention span so if can skip around a video I lose interest fast. I can understand the love of vtubers tho, anime characters and such are pure perfection personified. Unblemished smooth skin, perfect hair how you want it, and ascetic improbable in real life with extreme freedom. Freedom of expression is one of the most appealing things in the world. One major reason why vrchat is popular. You can literally be anything you want.
I dunno how many people will see this, but Kizuna Ai's voice actor never changed. There was a time when there were other (I think 2) Kizunas that were subtly different, but they were played by other people and eventually became their own unique characters with their own designs. (One of them is named Love-chan, I believe) But the original was always the same person. Black Ai is actually played by the original actor as well. As I remember, Black Ai is like an alter ego of Kizuna Ai so that makes sense. She has a video explaining all of this so if you're curious I recommend looking it up.
Correct. The two that spon from her were named Love-chan and Ai-Pii who first got differentiated with Hairpins, then later got their own designs. Love-chan is the pink haired AI that sometimes collabs with Ai-chan in streams and videos. She has her own channel. AI-Pii is the other AI however has retired.
Bruh than doesn't change the fact that their early attempts at phasing out the original voice actor in favor of new additional ones proved the entire Kizuna AI endeavor to be incredibly mercenary. Any sense of authenticity was lost after that imo and anyone still watching is only there for superficial waifu-based reasons.
@@thegreatmoof The original companies attempts to make this transition backfired and ended up being controversial. unpopular opinion but the best moment of vtubers is the moment when they are not clipped. When they talk about boring stuff and not even trying that hard to entertain. Also the concept of vtuber is amazing imo. you can be there and show "yourself" without being judged by height, fat, skin colour, pimples, et. We can simply be "the anime man/woman"
I agree with you there, especially the concept of being a vtuber. One of my favorite vtubers is IronMouse and I remember her saying one stream that being able to play online and stream as a vtuber has helped her feel human since her autoimmune disease keeps her indoors and mostly in bed. Being able to stream and be a vtuber helps her feel more like a person and gets people to treat her like one rather than a sickly girl because of the visual of the avatar.

Korone and that tomboy vtuber are my favorites, Rushia is kinda funny, the rest is meh. The one that I hate the most aren’t vtubers tho, it’s the fucking fans
I know this is a joke and I don’t mean to ruin it, but i think it’s worth noting that some people have good genes that make it so that they just don’t get addicted to things. They’ll smoke cigarettes casually for a bit and then just stop cause it’s not their style.
Tbh, I kind of agree. The voices behind V-tubers are real people sometimes/often have to pretend to be an anime stereotype. And then here come their “fans”. Who are so obsessed with their own headcanons they WILL try to ruin other people’s lives or even the V-tuber themselves because they broke their illusion of them (esp. if they have a partner outside their work).
Tis why my friend says, "Identity secret. Never talk, just have this persona, but speaking, revealing even a hint of data one can use to find your identity. This is why you make up a fake history, an entirely new person, so that they instead, know only the persona, not the real person. The real you, is you. This is like your part time hobby. I wouldn't make it a job, but you know, got to ensure you avoid those crazy lunatics who can never cope with reality."
That's a bit of a generalization of their fanbases, actually a huge generalization. And those who try to ruin Vtubers lives are called "Antis," whom aren't actual fans.
@@zanard33 Actually it was a combination of Antis and her own doing. She broke her contract which got her terminated. It was the crazy obsessed "fans" antis, whatever you wanna call them, that made streaming impossible for her. At the end of the day, real fans of Rushia despise those freaks.
This...this is a person that I can get behind. I always appreciate when people take the time in to learn about vtubers without just blindly hating on them. You can dislike them all you want, but if you're goin to make a video bashing them, atleast do your research. And as someone that has fallen deep into the rabbit hole, I can't disagree with anything you said. The only thing that get's to me when watching these videos is people saying that they're 'fake'. Now I'm not going to sit here and pretend that 98% of the vtubers out there don't go out of there way to do cutesy things that they wouldn't normally do. That's just part of the persona that a lot of them put on. But the vtubers that I enjoy watching are the one's that show their real side on top of that. Sure, they put on a cutesy act, but you can tell it's an act and they aren't trying to hide it. That's why the members of Hololive are as popular as they are. Because when you really delve into their content, seeing their real self come out amongst all the cute acts is what I, and many others, crave. Seeing them break character and do or say something completely out of the ordinary. Are these things planned by them? Oh definitely, I have no doubts that they plan out a lot of what they do. But being able to see the real personality of the person behind the avatar through that...that's what I love so much about vtubers. That, and I just like moe-blob cute stuff, I aint gonna even try to deny that, K-ON IS MY SHIT BRO!!! But hey, not everyone is into that stuff, and that's fine, you don't have to be. One of my buddies also can't understand vtubers, getting a similar knee jerk/cringe reaction to them that you do. And I've never tried to force him to like them. I just accept that some people won't like them, and that's something I wish more people in the vtuber community would accept. We can be some pretty stingy folks...so I don't blame you for trying to skirt around the fanbase XD
And honestly, every youtuber out there puts out a facade. All of them. None of them are their genuine day-to-day selves, they either script themselves or put on a more entertaining personality to engage with their audience. In a way vtubers are more honest since you know it's an act on some level
I was with you until you said "I don't disagree with what you said". Scamboli likes Korone at the end of the video, the title is clickbait and Scamboli clearly threw this together in 3 days because he wanted the money and didn't bother to ask anyone for help or guidance.
When people use the argument they're fake, people don't act like that irl... Sure, but it's not like everyone irl is being genuine either. And what if those stuffs they don't do irl, they actually want to do them but refrain from doing so out of fear of getting ridiculed or harmed. Some people can only be themselves with the guise of anonymity. If I cannot be sure what's real and what's fake, I believe in the end it's up to myself to decide whether something is real or fake.
Reading comments like this reminds me of people who used to hate on minecraft, and fortnite not too long ago. You are hating because it is some unexpectedly popular thing you personally don't understand or like. I get it, I am like that at times. But rationally, it is not a good thing.

I think something interesting to point out is that these girls are also otaku, and like anime tropes as much as the male anime fans, so while it may be for the sake of marketing, it is something that connects them genuinely with the audience. Both subjects knows what the other wants, and is doing, and they're both okay with it. So basically they like acting cute like that and having people saying they're cute. That's a good point most youtubers do also start with a "character" Like morgz and slowly transit to there real personality it also happens with vtubers where they are playing a character but it has their original personality mixed in

@Theli Mega Real mature dude. Thanks.
@CHARLES GRIMSEY ProjektMelody

For clarification's sake: They're a new faction introduced at that point in the video, but "anti" is just what haters are called in Japan, South-Korea, and most likely China, and other countries that dabble in the same otaku-weeby circles and are more likely to adopt those terms rather than "hater".
And the worst of it? Those people think fictional characters are REAL!

And
Bruh than doesn't change the fact that their early attempts at phasing out the original voice actor in favor of new additional ones proved the entire Kizuna AI endeavor to be incredibly mercenary.

K-ON GANG!
If some grown adults wouldn't have the mental depth of a 12 year old child, the vtuber buisness would immediatly go bankrupt and that's a fact.

I find many Vtubers are more genuine than a lot of 'real' RUclipsrs because they have that separation thanks to their model.
That's a good point most youtubers do also start with a "character" Like morgz and slowly transit to there real personality it also happens with vtubers where they are playing a character but it has their original personality mixed in
If you think about it. Vtubers are honest about not being real too. You know its a performance.
In a way, but you do have to accept that Hololive girls and most bigger Vtubers play a role to appeal to their mainly male audience. No girl talks this way or behaves this way, they do it because that's whats entertaining to weebs.

@@JosephArata agreeable. but for what reason is hate applicable. I believe in a healthy amount of bullying. but ultimately, a passive action harms you in no manner. you are reacting to something and choosing to be upset by it. and why. because you cannot find anything else to fill your void. because outrage is easy to latch onto. because hatred is comfortable. directing anger, disgust, distrust, envy. In the end, the ones who get so upset over vtubers are more rotted than the vtubers themselves. You can simply exist. you do not have to feel anything. you dont have to be dulled by yourself and others.
@@commenteroftruth9790 Do you seriously think people consciously decide to be upset?
@@JosephArata Even, if that's true, there's just some point where i don't think there's remotely any kind of critic that is viewed as non toxic by someone. In that regards, personally, i think the video is clearly a critic of vtubers that is not constructive, but sometimes when you have this much hate for something (which i share with the creator of the video), i understand perfectly that any rational part of yourself disappear in front of something that you can't explain except by the fact that looking at it makes you the most uncomfortable possible. You still respect people, but there's some things that your brain rejects. And the creator shows this respect, they don't hate people that like vtubers, they just don't understand them and it's frustrating.
