Simple concept, awesome execution. I like the technique of hanging the small USB by tape/rope to allow 360 spraying. I'll be stealing that technique. Also, nice job combining the woodworking project with laser engraving technology.
Al B HDDs have very strong, 1"x1.5" magnets! 😆 (3.5" sized drive, in this case) I let my daughter disassemble a dead drive the other day and showed her how strong they were.
Well if they're as strong as you suggest then the tiny fields generated by the magnet he placed inside his wooden usb cover would be puny and couldn't possibly cause any damage.
its look amazing.. Awesome ... I became addicted to the works made of wood , and this pendrive recycling is great. Great idea to put a magnet on the top!
To everybody worrying about the magnet, here are some reasons you have nothing to worry about, just like the video and description says : 1. USBs have flash memory, which has nothing magnetic about it, so it cannot be corrupted by magnets. 2. Even if it were corruptible by magnets, anything but a very strong neodymium type magnet would do nothing to it. 3. Making it even safer is that the magnet is in the cap. It's not rubbing around over the thing and it's nowhere close when the USB is being written to. 4. Everyday technology is at the point where magnets are even being used inside the machines for menial tasks. This means the items have been designed to be more resilient against the magnetic fields. I mean we use little magnet stickers on the backs of our phones these days without any problems (be aware the internal compasses and even cameras, from what i've heard, can be negatively affected by magnets). Conclusion: Your USB is MUCH more likely to get corrupted due to a software error than the weak magnet used in the cap. Just stay away from the strongest magnets on earth, to be really extra super safe ;) Sources: Knowledge and Google. You can use the latter too.
Why am I seeing a lot of people commenting that magnets spoil the pendrive, or electronics? Since magnets have no effect on most devices, the only devices I know that are defective with the presence of magnets are HDs (because their storage method is made through magnetism) and bussulas (whether electronic or analog)
Well, they look nice, but I do not use wooden USB's anymore. I once was working in a wood shop and searched for it, when my chief told me he had unsuspiciously taken "a piece of wood" as a filler for a gap in a worn out vintage table which was about to be shipped to the customer... and there was not just porn on it!
USB = Universal Serial Bus Basically just the bus that transfers data. But what you've got here is a USB Drive, which uses the USB to send/receive data with the pc
+Karagiann WoodMade Thanks! Magnets have no effect on flash storage, only really strong magnets. The flash storage in the USB isn't actually even in the magnetic field of the magnet, its only the plug that is being attracted to it.
I recently went to the harry potter studio tour in london and i did a thibg where you are sitting on a broom in front of a green screen and they make a vid out of it and then you can buy a usb drive with it for 40 pounds. It looks cool but i want to make something with it, any ideas?
Good, but where is the ventilation area, because when you catch the pen drive after you use, it is Hot, and it need to ventilation, or else, can be it take fire
I love the magnetic cover, great idea, nice work.
+Ben Brandt Thank you!
This is insanely well made and looks awesome at the end!
Nice video, great idea. My favorite part? The sanding bit!!! I love the fast motion with the sound effect! Yeah!!!!
Love the beveled edges! More videos please, loved your custom tablesaw series.

Very nice! The magnet inside the lid was a great idea.
Had one for 4 years. Still works.
The magnet probably needs to be a fair bit stronger. Don't forget that hdd's have small magnets in them as well.

THIS LOOKS AMAZING!
thank you! :)
Nice work. I have built and uploaded a wooden usb stick from maple and oak. But I did not saw the middle part. I milled it.
I essentially do this to all of my usb sticks.. Love how wood looks.
Nicely done. I like the magnet in the cap.
You are a gifted guy, no doubt about that! I'd like to get my hands on that awesome USB drive. Love your videos
Rabz
Alluminium will never have the luxurious look wood has
Put a magnet at the back of it so the cover attaches to the back too! (Be careful not to erase some memory off the USB drive too!)
"How (not) to use bandsaw" 😂
Great work
Michele Pizzolante lol
Nicely done. I especially liked the magnet.
that gap between the cap and the usb is so unsettling.
I actually like that, so u clearly see which end is the cap and also just looks Nice in my opinion. lmao
good job man

That's what happens to those that bring porn drives to work and don't look after it :P

Very nice, especially the magnet idea. I looks quite good. pierre from New Mexico
Fantastic job thanks
Yo quiero saber si el iman que se pone dañaria el usb su funcion o almacenamiento
How do I get a magnet that small??

#Pedant
do you have your own laser engraver? or do you outsource that?
thats realy nice
i love your work
What laser engraver did you use?
great work
what magnet did you use?
Nice work
Awesome project! I found your channel on creator community, subbed now. Great stuff!
Thanks! :D
I liked it very much
I have my own Lego USB and it is cool, maybe i will make a wooden USB someday :)
good stuff! subscribed!
Very good.
What wood did you use? It almost looked like it was from a paint stir stick
this is beech wood
Good idea
Is it a good idea to have a magnet so close to the usb chip? Some people says it's not. Did you do any research? Anyway it is very nice.
+Karagiann WoodMade Thanks! Magnets have no effect on flash storage, only really strong magnets. The flash storage in the USB isn't actually even in the magnetic field of the magnet, its only the plug that is being attracted to it.
What sive wood it this?
Man your good!!!
Good video!
Great work! I don't have a chainsaw table, what could you recommend to use?
i need this .. how can i plz tell me
Do magnets not effect the memory of the usb?
nope
hm, cool, i ask because i know they affect most screens and stuff
What would happen if you misplaced this?
loved it keep it up

Electronics and magnets.
Makes me scared.
i thought exactly the same thing ...
Yep.

has no effect on it, infact a hard drive has a powerful magnet in it .
maybe if it was a 1990s video tape...
I like it !
Un Artiste !
Love your videos! Where do you get the laser engraving?
+Robert Peel Thanks! I had to find a local business that does laser engraving to do it for me

Hahaha interesting choice
Amazing work! How long did it take you to make this?
thanks! It took a few hours. I didn't really have a plan so I was just doing it as I went
Nice! This would've taken me all day. I love the magnet in the cap. Genius!
