I never give any time of day to people who say this because almost 100% of the people who make the "rap isn't real music" argument have usually never heard anything beyond the mainstream stuff you hear on the radio so they think that's all hip-hop is as a genre. They're the type of close-minded (probably racist) people that think anyone that's not Eminem is a "mumble rapper"
and its funny because the rise in mumble rappers makes the case for rap being music even more real since they focus way more on the sound than the lyrics lol
I've spoke with some individuals that think Hip Hop isn't music because it does make well for different time signatures. Pol always gone try to demean the most popular genre worldwide.
@@slimsreturn4990 first video I've seen. These are some of the exact points I've been saying for years. Theres so much rap music that is full of flourishing and beautiful intrumention. Take to pimp a butterfly for example.
Hip Hop is poetry with music... This culture has artists like Madlib, Dilla, Q-Tip, Pete Rock and we are arguing about being music? And even if someone believes Hip Hop is just about lyrics somebody should inform them that poetry in ancient Greece was considered music because it was pronounced by singers at the temples with melody of harps.
How about music is subjective, and what’s music to one person, doesn’t HAVE to be music to anyone else. I love Hip Hop music, and I don’t need anyone telling me what is or isn’t music.
Even though I agree with most of what you say, I do think that the lyricism era was born back in 1981 when Kool Moe Dee mopped a floor with Busy Bee Starski, that was the moment when people realized there's more to this shit
Since there are several different musical signs for silence (e.g. pause signs), everyone should be able to accept that even silence can be music in a certain context. So music can obviously be declared to be music by the receiver (like the sound of a moving train). If someone says that the sound of a stone falling into water is music in his ears, I can say little against it. Why should I? I think the idea that something is music if it is perceived as music by at least someone comes closest to the truth. Beethoven's "Grosse Fuge" string quartet has been criticized as "not being music" in 1825. Who cares? As long as no one has a universally accepted definition of music, claiming that "XXX is not music" is kind of absurd. I could just say, "I think it is. Prove me wrong." Done. ;-)
