If you use the alligator clip to grab a needle or something similar would it be able to draw smaller lines? And you attach the other clip directly to the titanium or do you use a piece if ti-wire? What is this next thing you are going to show? Been thinking or redoing my first sincenmy screws are a bit lose anyway, might as dissasamble and anodise again.
A needle is a great idea! I didn't think of it, but it would definitely work. Probably just want to use the dull end so you don't tear the paper.
As far as the lead goes, you can connect it directly, or use wire. I did both. I like using the wire better though because then I was able to cover the whole piece with the paper. If the alligator clip is directly on the piece you can't fully cover it with the paper.
The next video I have coming up is going to be on faux timascus. Going to be a really cool one, I'm really excited to share that one!

@@ApollosRings The needle thing did not work, at all. Not for me anyway. I anodised a 3x 9v battery base color first and wanted to add lines with the 6x 9v battery. But.. All I did was roast the paper. Never had a colorchange. Then my second idea, I wanted a 3 batt. base with lines over it with the 6 batt, but the 6 overrides the three so that way I had to almost drown my handles in nailposlish. So did not turned out as planned. Still turned out kind of nice. I'll post some pictures later on my instagram. (Flipper.was.a.dolphin)

This is so cool. I ordered some alligator clips/leads, ti wire and a ti straw to do a solid color on a full scale but now I want to try this on an Eklipse liner, it just needs one side and on the edges and it would be super fun to give this a shot for different effects. Thanks!!!!
have you tried using cut T shirt instead of paper? I keep tearing through the paper and getting sparks... also curious to know if there are other more efficient ways to do this.
A t-shirt should work just fine. As far as more efficient ways, you can use a power supply. That's what I use now. Batteries will do the same thing, but it's a bit more setup, and you can run into issues here and there.

Sort of unrelated, but, I've noticed that that 0900 is used in pretty much every video. Are there any problems that arise from stripping and Re-Anodizing something that many times. I'm thinking about doing my new Inkosi and want to know I can just retry if I screw up a bunch of times.
I've definitely anodized that knife like 30 times, lol. I haven't experienced any issues doing it over and over. If you are really concerned, I suggest using nail polish on any critical areas (bearing races, screw holes). I use the same blade so that if issues do arise it's only a problem with the one knife, but no problems as of yet. Still performs like the day I got it.

Can you use a sponge or sponge brush to anodize. For like shapes or lines..&if you can could you cut the sponge into shapes to anodize right to the metal?? ie: star, circle, squares triangle and such.. thanks great videos

Acetone does leave a film, always follow acetone wipe with an IPA wipe (since acetone removes more oil than IPA, but IPA can remove the acetone film).
Good to know. I've heard some say it does, and some say it doesn't. Either way I haven't had any issues with it. I appreciate the info though.

This is awesome, I don't have any Ti scales yet but I'll have to try this.
Sweet vid. So for a pinned knife. If I cover the pins, pivot with nail polish and then I could potentially anodize the whole scale with this technique without taking the knife apart?
I don't recommend trying that unless you are 100% sure that you've got any exposed stainless covered with nail polish. If there is anything that you can't get to because you didn't take it apart, it will instantly oxidize very badly. Theoretically you could do that if you were 100% sure of your nail polish coverage, but I probably wouldn't take that chance. I've seen what it does to exposed stainless in the bath, and it's ugly. If you're not submerging the knife though, you'd probably be fine just covering the pins and pivot. Just make sure they have a few really good coats, and let the polish completely dry before anodizing. Definitely an "at your own risk" kinda thing though. If you're really careful it can be done.

Do you need to sandpaper all Ti pieces before the etch? Is that mandatory? What if the Ti is sandblasted already?
You do not need to sand them prior to etching if you are happy with the finish already. Just know that a sandblasted finish will produce a bit of a different tone of color as opposed to a polished finish. Anodized finishes that are sandblasted will hold up better as well. Basically there is more surface area to oxidize.
@@ApollosRings I see, sandblasted should yield more color or less? Looks like less color on my sandblasted purple ano handle, then again maybe they just put it solution for a short second?
Usually the color is a bit deeper when sandblasted, but if you're looking at yours after handling it you may just need to wipe it down and get the oils off of it to freshen the color up.
@@ApollosRings I realize I added tape before dipping in whink and ammonia, but I will do it in ammonia and whink with the tape on it and see what happens
Will this work on aluminum?
No, unfortunately this process won't. When I have some spare time I plan on doing an aluminum series, I just haven't got to it yet.

tsp is for anodizing at higher voltages like 75-110v
An electrolyte is an electrolyte, the water is what does the work, but If you feel TSP works better for you at higher voltages, by all means use what works for you. I've had no distinguishable differences between the 2 at any voltage. Might make for an interesting video though. I know some people swear by the stuff. Would you be interested in seeing a side by side comparison?
