    0:26 Showing the Rabbi Ovadia Yoseph as Sephardic, when he was Iraqi, highlights the problem with defining the terms Sephardic and Mizrahi under only an ethnic definition. He was the chief Sephardic rabbi, because that is the religious tradition, but he was not a descendent of Spanish Jews.

    • @alizahalon
      @alizahalon Год назад

      They don't define him as Sephardic so much because of ethnicity as much as because of which Halachic codifiers he follows. There are two basic lines of codifiers. Sephardic and Ashkenazi. Then you have various Rabbinic authorities for subgroups, depending on what region they are from.

It means the end of such a fascinating part of my country's history. Ashkenazi Jews are a mix of Israelite, Anatolian and European.

    • @flwrangler
      @flwrangler Год назад

      Estelle there's a spiritual element far greater that jealousy. Satan wants to eliminate all Jews, reasoning no Jews, God's prophecies can't take place, his end won't come as written. If you study the scriptures you'll find this
      " war" began long ago, with focus on tribe of Judah because that's where Messiah would come from. If he could kill all jews in WW2, Israel would not have become a nation after more than 2000 years, marking the beginning of the end.
      Hatred against Jews is global because of this. The ungodly pass the hatred on to their children, and most Christian, gentile churches do not teach much on old testament, selective of new testament commandments.

    Interesting how there is no mention of the Hebrews who were transported all throughout the Caribean and Americas yet mention American Jews as majority White. The whitewashing of history is always easily explained; you however only reference Ethiopia and Uganda as having the only historical ties to Jews, which is also false because many tribes in West Africa still hold Hebrew traditions that go back to King David. The Children of Isreal were scattered into lands and taken into iron shackles in ships to foreign lands and forced to worship false Gods. This is not hard to trace back to America's and the Caribbean.

    The Torah has five African nations in it nevertheless, I was surprised to see that this video actually mentioned actually ethnically African Jewish people! Generally, many assume that Mizrachi and Sephardim actually originated in Africa, however, the video was accurate concerning Sephardi roots being European. Please remember too that the "Hamitic Hypothesis" may have actually caused more confusion than anything else in the 18th, 19th and early 20th centuries concerning African peoples which was formulated by C.G. Seligman.
    Also, "Semitic" is a linguistic term and was never meant to denote ethnicity or "race" in any way. Moreover, the Torah is not an historical document but rather a book of faith and should be appreciated ONLY in that way what's more, Judaism is a religion and not an ethnicity! Be informed too, that the term "Middle East" is a geopolitical term that reflects modern-day populations and NOT the "ancient" anthropological populations irrespective of religion.

      We come from 12 different tribes that where different between them; each tribe had it's own customs. For example, Zevulun was one of the commercial tribes, Ephraim were mostly schollars, Levis where priests in the temple, etc. Also, for us, in the begining of Creation, God made Adam (which we concider the first man) with all the genetic data that there is in the world today. From him comes Noach with the ark who had three sons: Shem, Jam and Iafet from which derives different groups of people (Jam is mostly African people, Iafet is Europe and Nordic people and from Shem come the people from the Middle East and some other places). Thats why there are so many different bloodlines. From a scientific stand-a-point, genetics adapt to the place of where you are; it is possible that with the pass of generations some genetic traits evolved in order to survive the different climates they had to go to. An other factor that has to. be taken into consideration are the existance of conversion and mixed marriages. Hope this helps! Have a good week :)

      I can simply answer it. I have a few reasons why.
      A. It's true, Spain and Portugal are in Europe. But back then it was occupied by Muslims. And in 1,400 King of Spain exiled the Jews. And they spread to North Africa and the Middle East.
      B. Before the exile, the Eastern Jews looked at religious leaders as their leaders.
      Meaning even a Jews never went to Spain or Portugal called a Sephardic Jews. (It been mostly in customs i.e)
      Now. Even some of the Jews born in Israel called Sephardics because they follow the customs of what customs in Spain by the Jews over there

    People forget that it’s not about genetics when it comes to who’s Jewish. In Judaism, you’re Jewish if your mother is Jewish. Mizrahi May be the original Hebrews but in Judaism, a true convert is considered 100% Jewish. So if you’re completely foreign yet you have a true conversion (what makes it true isn’t germain to this point) and then bear children, your children are Jewish. It explains why there are many different kinds of Jews. As long as they are observant then they are spiritually Jewish. Genetics are one thing but observant Jews don’t care about genetics. At least the faithful ones. Every group in the world has a minority representing extreme fundamentalist. People tend to forget that.

It is a division of the macro-haplogroup E-M96, which is defined by the single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) mutation M215.[4][5][6] In other words, it is one of the major patrilineages of humanity, linking from father-to-son back to a common male-line ancestor ("Y-chromosomal Adam"). It is a subject of discussion and study in genetics as well as genetic genealogy, archaeology, and historical linguistics.

      it is only because there are much more "mizrahi" than "sepharadi".
      you have a common prayer, but there are so many differences.
      the sepharadi were part of "the old settlement". living here in the 19th century and earlier, in jerusalem, hebron, safed, tiberias, owning property, seeing themselves as intellectuals.
      yehoram gaon for example. also all those with spanish family names such as toledo, toledano, sevillia, pinto, franco, guetta, saporta, and many more who come from spanish language.
      they mostly have no claims against the way they were treated by the ashkenazi zionists.
      many of the french jews are spanish -sepharadi - and italian jews.
      whereas mizrahi jews are so different, most of them immigrated in the 1950's and later, into great poverty and disadvantages, felt great frustration, not knowing who to blame, eventually feeling discriminated against. they "bear-hugged" the sepharadi so they could present a larger group but they are trapped in a big inferiority complex. still not wanting to let go of their non-intellectual heritage.

    Sephardic and Ashkenazi are first a form of religious practice and religious interpretations. Sephardic Jews did originated from Spain (hence "Sephardic") but settled all the middle east and north Africa (not the Yemenite Jews, though) . "Mizrahi" is a general name for all Jewish Immigrants who came from Muslim countries and all of them are Sephardic. Nowadays "Mizrahi" is a cultural and sociological group and even and most importantly, a political group. Ashkenazi Jews in Israel are basically been through the same sociological and cultural process. Mizrahi as a political group created, and unique, to Israel, and reflect Israel's political history and ideological choices.

    The most of jews (ashkenazi jews) come from Turkic origin. Their roots depand on Khazar Turks which have founded Khazar Khakanate in the north of black sea, caucasia and south sybiria. Their religion was Judaism. After collapsing of their Khakanate, many of them have emigrated to the west, the rest of them have mixed of the other Turkic tribes (Turkey, Azerbaijan, Turkmenia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhistan, Kyrgisiztan, Chuvashistan, Gagauzia, Baskortostan etc)

      The khazar theory is bogus and about 1100 c e Casimir the great of Poland actually invited Jews to his land.He realized that the Jews had skills his people lacked and these Ashkenazi jews were treated very well under Casimir but over times further rulers would treat harshly and Yiddish is not Turkic in origin but is Middle high German with loan words from Hebrew Aramaic and and Slavic.
