@@kapo2012fb not really, 2001 not just for me but for man yankee fans was the worst defeat ever, well some experienced the 1960, but i wasn’t around by then,
with everything what happened a month and a half before the postseason, coming from 3 straight titles, having the lead in the ninth inning with the best closer in history. it was just devastating for many of us and like i said for me personally i still haven’t got completely over.

Evan is a great guy, but his show has been such a tough listen the last few months without sports. Having Mike on for a few mins reminded me how much Mike can command an audience on any topic an inject life back into any topic. And why WFAN asks him to supplement holes on their schedule.

Francesa really has nothing to add to anything. Roberts even at his much younger age could recite more things about other sports
than Francesa can. Joe Benigno is a sports historian compared with the over rated Francesa. If it wasn't for the Yankees ( and I am
a Yankee fan) what is Francesa's sports knowledge, horse racing?

That Soriano homer in game 7 was one of the best swings I ever saw. Schilling threw a perfect splitter. Soriano almost it off the ground. Too bad they couldn’t win that game.

Game 6 of the 2001 World Series was a Saturday night. I got a group of my friends to go to the Sporting Clib at 99 Hudson Street in lower Manhattan, about a half mile north of ground zero at the WTC. It is about a quarter mile south of WFAN's current studios

The 2004 ALCS game 3 rain delay screwed the pitching up. G3-7 in five days wore the yanks staff out where the Sox had Wakefield take a bunch of innings for the team.

People who listen to his radio show know that Evan recently interviewed Paul Olden the Yankees public address announcer and many people listening to that interview were waiting for Evan to ask Olden about the Tommy Lasorda incident. It was pathetic and a very bad job that Roberts for some strange reason did not ask Olden about this.
I wonder why Roberts did not ask him about it, that is very strange.
A caller brought it up to Roberts a half hour before the interview.
Benigno and Roberts works a lot better and is a better listen than Roberts alone in my opinion.

Mike actually being at these games adds nothing to the discussion. Just saying "I WAS THERE" as a spectator doesn't change anything.

Presence can absolutely add a level of insight depending on the specific point. Everyone brings up games they’ve attended when reminiscing. If Evan/JJ had been there they’d tell you.

Yeah, he didn’t need to state that. Everyone knows how much he covers the Yankees and goes to games. He’s simply just self-aggrandizing and bragging. Every statement is “I WAS AT, I WAS THERE, I’M BETTER than all of you.”

How dare you make fun of the guy who invented sports talk radio.
How dare you make fun of the guy known as the sports pope.
How dare you make fun of a guy who went on a 2 year retirement tour and then came back
to radio 3 months later because the sports talk radio world could not live without him.
      HOW DARE YOU!!

@@chrisnalina1755 him and dog did put sports radio on the map and Mike was #1 ratings wise for almost 30 years straight. Wfan wouldnt be around right now if not for him. Like him or not he was the best ever and I doubt neone will ever be as good. Even with him barely on the air nemore he still brings ratings and the fan always tries to find reasons to bring him on.

    • @chrisnalina1755
      @chrisnalina1755 4 года назад

@@jeffreyval9665 Him and Russo happened to start doing a sports radio talk show at the right time 30 or so years ago. There was a void and they picked up on it. There really was nothing special about them just 2 guys talking sports with strong opinions and strong passion in the middle of the afternoon on drive time radio talking sports which had never been done before. Add to that being on a 50,000 watt radio station. It still took them years to achieve any high ratings but they finally got high ratings because they were unique at that time.
When Francesa came back to radio he really was not welcomed back even by his most loyal listeners. His ratings went down
and most people were disgusted by the way he had made fools out of them doing a 2 year retirement tour and then coming back only
3 months later. When he was questioned about it by a caller or several callers he said snapped at them saying it is none of your business why I came back. Find out what the people who work at that station think about him.
Believe it or not there was sports talk radio before those 2 (dog and Francecesa ) appeared on the radio scene 30 years ago and not
all of them were windbag pompous condescending jerks acting like they know everything about current sports or sports history or anything else for that matter.
