The echo cs355t and cs361p are so underrated. Many years ago i rebuilt a worn out one for someone and had it ported by a local guy. It was an absolute rocket after it broke in and still very reliable and easy to start always.
I did the same mods to a stihl 291 and the difference was definitely noticeable. Biggest change I noticed was the throttle response. Much snappier response after modification.
Nice video Bert. Little top handle ran pretty good stock for an older but well maintained saw. Snappier doesn’t hurt if the noise doesn’t bother you. I like your bucking table.
I love my Echo saws. I have owned every major brand in the last 40 years. I liked my Jonsereds but you hardly see them anymore. My favorite was a Shindaiwa which is now the larger Echo's. They run great and are very dependable. Unfortunately, our dealer recently closed. That little saw cuts very well.
The other simple modification, is figure out the clearance at TDC and remove base gasket. Should it stay over about 0.020 thousands without the gasket. . I have one clone original edition 372 i did it to, plus a replacement 52mm piston. One serious low end power band. . Basically i was trying to create an obsolete gen 1 372 xpw that had a 51.4mm piston, thats no longer available worldwide. Its pretty close to the same performance.
355t is a clamshell. Base gasket delete is a PIA. The only top handle echo makes that is a mag split case is the 2511t. I did a base gasket delete on a 590 and 620 and made a difference and bumped up the compression. 372’s are great saws have had a couple over the years. Super easy to work on.
Saw sounds great! I love my 355t I have done the same mods. You can tune it hotter, manual rpm specs are 13,800-14,500 on WOT high jet. Think I set mine at 13,500 and screams!

They are underrated. Someday, maybe get one fully ported. We do have some other fun saws coming to compare as well.
Looked like you had fun doing it. Satisfying inquiring minds is health. Well worth the time. Well done.
It was fun. It definitely is louder.
I have a CS-400 I purchased in 2007 I did a muffler mod to it now my 42cc saw performs like a 50cc saw. Great video Bert , keep on cutting
Thanks 👍
Great video!! Poor man's fixes a lot of things!! Thanks for showing us ways to get more out of our small saws!! Stay Hydrated and Have a Safe Day
Thanks! Will do!

Throttle response is better.

It's still quieter than a stock 592xp
Good one, Bert. You never know if you don’t have a go at it. Great video….
Very true!

Hi Bert nice video love it ( Ty Ron
Thanks glad you liked it.
Nice tune up on that saw. It cut faster.
May need to adjust tuning a little.
I think it helped some. I got a older husky I have been thinking about doing something like that to.
I had thought about it for a while and am glad I did it.
I had to pull the limiter caps off the high and low speed jets to get a good tune after doing similar mods.
I might have to do that yet.
Nice modding 😊
Thanks
👍🏻👏
Thanks for watching
I've removed every spark arrestor on all my saws. They run better without them.
I'll run it more and maybe end up taking it out.
Being a Machinist , I'm sure if u did some cylinder work and all tht other mumbo jumbo , you could do some nice porting to sawz
Maybe one day
There is a small difference in speed.
There will be more difference after I get it tuned a little bit.
Bert I need a filling
Just remember, I dont do numbing when doing fillings.
