From Germany living in the US near Washington D.C. Took the bus to work this morning listening to Bach on my iphone. The Bus driver asked me what I was listening too. I replied Bach. He said: "who is that". I almost fell on the floor.
I live in the Washington DC area and when I catch the bus I am always listening to Bach. Given the lockdown, I haven't caught the bus in a long time, but still, I'm listening to Bach.
Thank you, from the cradle of human creativity, for a life force like Johann Sebastian Bach and for an interpreter like Maestro John Eliot Gardiner and the remarkable artists who make this timeless music come alive in the present as it did in the past. What a gift to the ages.
18:35 ish is fantastic! John Eliot’s statement and then whooosh the opening chorus of 248/5. Like saying “you can do it in a lot of ways but this is how it’s done properly”. BRILLIANT!
A wonderful pilgrimage for the musicians. This is truly amazing and awe inspiring. Thank you to everyone for this fantastic project. And the music - such a treat!:-)

Sir John Eliot Gardiner deserves a Nobel prize, one specially created for him. He is a conductor sui generis.

I listen to this performance of the Oratorium every year beginning to end. I am so glad to have just found this video about how they did it.
