In the early 80th i was living near SF CA as a very naive country 20 year old girl as a mother's helper. On my weekend off i went to the often to the city. I was approached by many people to join all sort of cult and all wanted money. I discussed this with my employer family (both lawyers) and they warned me with fear in their eyes of the danger of all kinds of sects. They saved my life....

My mother was going through difficult times in her marriage with my dad and had issues of self confidence. They prayed on her using her vulnerability and brainwashed her into signing up to the path to get 'Clear', many very expensive and all consuming courses that kept her away from home at night. With the money loss and her physical and mental absence, the marriage was definitively lost - sadly she was convinced that she was working to save it. I will never forgive them.

      Cheers to that. 🥂
Most of us never explore our core beliefs, much less realize they are mostly propaganda and lies. For instance, I once thought that US democracy was a real and functional system aimed at bettering the lives of it’s citizens and others around the world.
I was close to 50 before realizing the entire legislature, courts and executive branches were full of nothing more than people trying to get rich by working in the service of the rich. Essentially, every single one of them has sold their souls. Capitalism has overtaken our democratic values.
Now that’s sad. -I mean the fact that it took me this long to figure that out after being born into a military/federal family and working for the federal government for over 30 years at the time of my realization. I am STILL going through the rewiring process and it is painful.

As a former scientologist - I can say that this explanation is the best I've heard.
Although I'd also have to say that even with the best explanation there is,
Someone who's never been there can't really grasp how the system actually works .
There is an online forum called ESMB (Ex Scientologists Message Board) and on there you'll find people who left the church because of the direction they went after Hubbard died.
And there are others who believe that Hubbard is a con artist but still they got conned into committing 30 yrs of their life to the church.
And there are others who frequent the ESMB who are looking for former members who were top auditors who will do auditing for a lower cost than the church charges.
And there are others who had good experiences, but they got old and realized that the church's promise that someone will never get sick is a false claim.
      And other reasons.
Personally - I didn't spend more than maybe $350 there and I just realized that I want to spend my money on other things, so I quit - And scientology kept sending mail to me since the mid 80s - Like a letter every day... So - yuh know ...
But I did learn some things about how the system operates - But not as much as people who've spent decades there.

That’s a wise move in my opinion. I’m against banning any religion but in this case a scam so destructive to families and finances shouldn’t be tolerated. I’m from the us and here they actually have “tax exempt status” which means the government recognizes them as a real religion who doesn’t have to pay taxes. It gave them the legitimacy they wanted and it should have never happened. Be glad you don’t have any corn flower blue buildings popping up.

As an ex-Scientologist of 7 years, if you want to get an idea of how staff are abused and shouted at in the sea org just listen to the Tom Cruise covid rant. Even the language he uses, it is such a typical example or how sea org members abuse each other. It truly is a special kind of abuse, no one can cut into you with no holds barred like a Scientologist can, It cuts you to the core, I had never experienced such abuse in my life, It was soooo ugly, I have never seen such abuse in my life, it put me into such shock that I couldn't eat without wanting to throw up I had to stuff the food down my mouth this went on for a long time. You are under constant pressure to perform, you have to hand in stats every week and your stats need to keep rising with each week. In the Sea Org they expect you to do the impossible and there is no excuse for anything. You are scarred and on the edge a lot of the time, you start to lose a lot of weight, I started to dissociate and almost had a psychotic break. 100% abusive environment. Don't know how I got through it. I watched as the Ethics Officer yelled and screamed at probably 100-300 Sea org members all standing like little soldiers with their hands behind their backs and taking it all. I see old people stuck in there frail and wary and they can't leave, they have nothing to go home to. There were twelve of us sharing a room at one stage, 3 minute showers. You are controlled from morning to night, security at every entrance, Like 2 hours off on a Saturday, just enough time to go and buy your essentials. You constantly feel like you are not giving enough. I was told if I joined staff I may be earning R5000 which is already a small amount but doable, when I joined it was less round $5 per week, I started to hyperventilate when I saw the actual salary, I had been lied to and guess what, I was seen as aberrated and dramatizing. You are controlled and harassed at every point, they have no qualms with arriving at your premises 10pm to get you to donate money. They will destroy your mental health, your physical health, your career, your family relationships, your relationships. beep beep beep everything, they will destroy. And if you are destroyed then it is all your fault. It has nothing to do with them. I heard either Marc Headly or Mike Rinder (Both Worked at INT base) say that David Miscavige came to them and said, I was just on the phone with Tom (Tom Cruise, his best buddy) and Tom asked if he needed to come over to help me beat you up or something along those lines. And the whole joke about the flag land base is that it is touted as being the "friendliest place on earth". Upon arriving at the Flag Land Base I had security confiscate my electronic devices, hand to hand in my passport too. Of course I only found this out on arrival. They never told me they would take my passport. I look back and think, how is this even legal. They lied to everyone at the GAT II program, they got you to join the program by promising you that you will be training to be a auditor/councillor. These are people from all over the world, then when everyone had arrived in a country that was foreign to them they gathered everyone in a hall about 300-500 and suddenly announced to us that we will not be auditors (so they lied to get you to join and then when you arrive in a foreign country with your passport confiscated and they tell you that they have decided that it is better to make us all course room supervisors) Imagine signing up for an aupair program and when you arrive in the foreign country they tell you oh no we have decided it will be better for you to be a nurse. (same thing) they then proceeded to manipulate making us feel less than if we wanted to leave. Bait and switch. I was told that it would take 8 weeks to get through the program, more like a 6 months to a year. Now you there in this foreign country, with no money of your own and you need to get through your course before they will let you go home, then they release this new e-meter and you now have to buy this meter which cost about R40 000 so you are stuck like a chicken without a head running around to try and borrow other peoples meters with the course supervisor giving you the most scathing comments telling you you are degraded because you can't get your e-meter and finish your course. Immense pressure. One of the things that helped me to wake up was watching an Interview with Opera and Tom Cruise he said something which I knew to be an absolute lie. I lost all respect for him in that moment. While on my Training Program at Flag David Miscavige at our weekly Graduation announces to the public while touting his new program that "all of the trainees have completed their courses, and I mean all of them". He stated it so emphatically and here I was a trainee in a whole class of students who had yet to finish. Outright lies...because that way when people struggle with the course which they inevitably will they will feel like there is something wrong with them and not the program. If you watch the other interview with Opera, the one where he jumps on the couch, watch how he grabs Katie, puts her hands behind her back and pushes her forward. Big Red Flag...I feel so sorry for that woman, she had this beautiful innocent spark before she met him, now she is more reserved. She probably signed a gagging order as part of the divorce agreement.

Someone who can be charming and smart and likable, but ultimately when you look into his eyes, there is just nothing there, and he never actually shows real emotion or himself. I just watched the film American Psycho, and Christian Bale had said years ago that when he went to develop the character who is a sociopath but can pretend to be normal, but ultimately (in the character’s own words) he’s illusory, you can shake my hand and feel flesh and look at me and see someone but ultimately he’s just not there… and he modeled Patrick Bateman after Tom Cruise.

But I don't recall if I ever pointed out that you keep choosing awesome guests! He's recovered his life and has a wife and child. But Scientology took his mental health and destroyed him for a long time.
I tell everyone I meet how destructive a cult Scientology is and not ever to get involved with them.

    • @deckard3755
      @deckard3755 Год назад +1

I suppose the Scientologists would say their redemption and forgiveness comes from eventually saving the world. Then again, isn't there always a way to justify one's actions when you have a wealth of story (existing and yet to) to point at and say "see, you just don't understand my motives!"
Occult merely means hidden. Symbology is occult and all religious texts utilise it. Not to say that occultism hasn't been used by nefarious people for nefarious means, it certainly has. The priests of old knew the value of hiding knowledge within symbology and method, of exploiting knowledge over the ignorant.
From my outside perspective (Agnostic) I would say the difference between pseudo-theologies such as Scientology and traditional theologies like Christianity is history. Christianity has been a force in our world for a very long time. It has had some incredibly brutal periods and needless deaths, but there are also countless examples of how it has also had a positive effect. The modern perspective upon charity, selflessness and freedom are rooted in some of the Christian lessons. I'm not a Christian, but I think C.S. Lewis should be read in schools. That's the difference to me. I wouldn't recommend anything from Scientology being taught in schools.

Andrew your channel really is Gold!! Just found it recently, and you cover the best topics that need revealing..
Loved hearing Chris story, thought I'd caught up on all the testifiers, but his is new to me .
He might have known my half sister and her family, who were in it from mid 70s till Ron died mid 80s.
In the early 80s I searched for my birth family, (given up for adoption at my birth)..
and the first relation I met was my half sister, N.R., who is one year older, who stayed with 'our mother ', each of us had different fathers who did Not stay to bring us up or even meet us..
I flew to L.A. to meet her, in about 84, and her husband n 2 sons, were living at the Scientology hotel, surprise!. We spent 2 days together, so I got to witness the ambience and ways of upbringing thier young boys. They were all so happy I found them. I'm happy she left that Church shortly after we met.
That hotel reminded me of a fancy mental hospital, tbh...
Anyhow, then in another branch of my adoptive family I was told of a cousin I hung with as a child in the 60s, just joined up in like early 2000s. It's a mind controlled business allright!Wierd but normal I suppose growing up in the Hollywood world, as we all did.
I so less regret running away at 16, mortally terrified of even getting close to greater los Angeles, and I dissapeared for 6 years...
giving up my planned music career in that industry..
It's so sad what's been done to humanity thru these Groups.
I ve also heard stories of L. Ron being c.i.a. connected..
So all this drama well planned and carried out with just a pure evil agenda.
Along with other toppies in other so called (made up) churches....
Channels like this do inspire hope that this civilization can Go Clear...as we learn to be independent thinkers and creators, without the fear that binds us to trust charlatans and mind control experiments.☀️
My half sister got out in the 80s but still has family members who married or stayed in It, and it's no easy task to have to keep dealing with the fall out of having been in It during such formative years.
Chris tells great stories, I'm glad utube offered me this video today💖

JWs are nothing at all like Scientology. JWs are Christians, Scientology isn't really a religion at all. The irony of confirmation bias here is lost on many who commented in this thread. So many assumptions that something is wrong with them and that they are unhappy---just because some people don't like Scientology. Why? Every social group has its rules. Both Tom Cruise and John Travolta are very successful people who say the Scientology teachings helped them become so, and most people who criticize them don't personally know them or anything about them other than rumors they hear from other people. Just because judgmental folks such as yourself call yourselves 'Ex' this doesn't give you any more rights to publicly criticize the decisions of others to stay loyal to their belief system...just as you felt you had when you decided to forsake your own.
If you really were 'Ex' then you have moved on after you left. Hating on Scientology, or JW (or whatever) and continuing to go on an on about it on the internet means that you chose to remain angry and claim to be a victim to rationalize a choice you made that you still have doubts about. I seriously doubt that Tom Cruise or John Travolta or any of the members of your former church care even a little about the opinions and comments here. You said "I can't stop myself..." but you really should. Life is short, enjoy it.

Travolta’s son had Kawasaki Disease. I think that moreover he was pretty far on the autism spectrum as well. Supposedly he was in the bathtub when they were in their Bahama resort, he was having seizures, his nurse was out of the room momentarily, he had a seizure, hit his head on the faucet, and drowned. That was the story at that time.
What I find more worrying is how his wife, Kelly Preston, just DIED. No word before of what she suffered from, the death was announced maybe weeks after the event. It’s always struck me as the conspiracy theory that in many powerful organizations, at some point a family member “sacrifice” is demanded. That may sound ridiculous, but when you hear things over the years, it lends credence to the idea.

My parents had an extensive library and encouraged all of us to be critical thinkers and read adult books. So by high school I was reading around 4 books/week. What this means it's I was exposed to Hubbard, his writing and and critiques is his writing by my 20's. It never made sense to me how a "religion" could be based on sci-fi books and writings. Mostly it never made sense how anyone could, or would, voluntarily entrap themselves in a system that wanted their worst instead of best.

I always hated scientology. Let me explain now.
I never read anything about it. One day, somebody asked me, have you ever heard about scientology, I said no.
This person started to explain to me what he knew about it.
He thought it was the most ridiculous thing.
I agreed with him about being ridiculous, then I told him I had seen worst. Have you ever heard about mormonism? He said no. I explained the little I knew about it.
We never agreed with which one was the most ridiculous cult.
I believe mormonism is the most stupid cult. He thinks scientology won on stupidity. Who knows?

Everyone I've heard about who talked about him say he's likely the nicest Celebrity scieno as well.

Last time, my parents had a 24h notice she would visit, they saw her a few hours, nobody could get free from their job on such short notice.

I always thought TC must be a monster, and its great to hear it at last from first hand witnesses. TC has appeared on many British popular chat shows over the last 5 to 10 years, and the chat show hosts and guests were all over him, retelling stories about how kind and generous (sending cakes on their birthdays) and talented blah, blah, blah Cruise is. Hundreds of comments from viewers underneath the posted video, bleating out the same old sycophantic nonsense about what an amazing guy Cruise is. I would add a comment back then that I dont believe a word of it (which likely got lots of hateful replies). I knew it must be a superficial mask - The massive Cruise PR team ensuring he has a stellar public and professional reputation - because what kind of a person is happy to profit, like he has, from a cult that causes the misery and mind control of thousands who are abused on a daily basis. What kind of person doesnt give a damn what happens to others, as long as they personally get treated like a God (just because they are famous, rich, and powerful, which would make any normal person realise the praise and worship is not worth 2 beans). A raging narcicisstic monster lacking in any real empathy, thats who. In peoples defence, I think they just really wanted to like the guy and give him a chance, probably cause they were big Top Gun fans or other films by Cruise from the eighties (which I never was). They wanted him to be a nice guy so much. But he just isnt. He can`t be.

Yep. I've enjoyed some of his movies because he gets to work with the best talent, but he is not talented himself, he always plays the same character, and I'm always surprised when people claim he is. Just look at him (and Brad Pit, another overrated pretty face) in Interview With a Vampire. Laughable. But apart from that though, when I saw his weirdness around Katie Holmes, I knew something was very wrong. I've come to think there's also something very wrong with Oprah's assessment of men. So many of those she promoted are actually toxic liars.

Sometimes, people who are disillusioned with their past life path, or who were betrayed, may fall for cults due to the need for community and structure.

As a group of four 16 yr old schoolgirls we had great fun with the American manning the booth. We reported back to our school house teacher, the teachers went to have a look. They, to their credit, researched it, and told us it was an American cult like the Moonies and to avoid it. So we did. We knew about the Moonies too. There was information disseminated before the internet….

I don't think Tom Cruise is objectively especially good looking at all. He is an actually regular looking man on the small side who had his teeth fixed. The reason for his success is his energy and his own unconditional belief that he is attractive and special. I think his narcissism convinces people of all these things. His stardom is due to his extreme narcissism, not looks or talent.

I can’t even imagine how hard it’s been for him adjusting to a normal life. He is so courageous for speaking out. I’ll never forget BBC Reporter John Sweeney’s expose on Scientology 10 plus years ago now. They were cruel to Sweeney, drove him crazy until he lost it and started shouting at them. It was horrible, and he ended up having to apologise! WTF! I was interested in what Chris was saying about John Travolta’s son and now with the passing of time and the death of his wife, Kelly Preston (who I adored too) makes you wonder if she had medical treatment for her cancer or not? 🤔 Tom Cruise doing that to his niece is narcissistic, maybe he needs his movies boycotted but people never would, just check out the latest figures for the new Top Gun movies. Indeed, charming, cold, toxic, sexist, self centered, facade building etc... nowadays these types of men are slowly being seen for what most of them are (anti social or narcissistic) but back in the 80s it was portrayed as it was the best thing on Earth to be an Alpha. Really paints a good picture of being in a destructive cult and how it's not really easy when you choose to leave. I know Chris has talked about having to process a lot of emotional crap after leaving - that's common. And it was my "innate" critical thinking that got me out of Landmark really quickly. I think I got that sense of skepticism from my mother. If it doesn't feel right, examine those feelings and weigh it all out.
