HOOOOOOO-LY COW. As more of a newbie collector, seeing your collection in full is genuinely inspirational. And I am jealous on so many levels. Thank you so much for sharing this video, Ken!
You have an insane amount. I've got about 50 4Ks and 400 Blu-ray's, a few hundred DVDs lol. I've got some gems in my collection but have never been able to afford buying loads. I have to prioritize. It's the only way I can collect physical media.
I have to applaud the smarts of these labels who include numbers on their spines , it's a real effective way to twist the tail of collectors and push them into buying discs for movies they don't even like particularly.
Just went through something similar. I cleared off my shelves every general release Blu and DVD. One shelf like you tall ones is Vinegar Syndrome and partner labels. Another general release 4K. Other two label and sets. So Criterion, Disney, Arrow, Kino, Severin, Blue Underground, Olive, MVD, Marvel movies, DC movies, TV Show collections etc. Then I have two smaller shelves that have my steelbooks and imports like Second Sight, Studio Canal, 88 Films. On top of the shelves and my speakers and TV stand more boxsets. I actually have some open shelving now for new additions.
I've always kept everything alphabetical by title so I can find movies. Though now with the rise of boutique labels I confess it is tempting to start sorting them that way so all those cool box sets look nice together.
I went from almost 2000 movies to about 300 the last 2 years. I never allow myself to own outside the shelf space I have (2 wall shelves). I am super happy with what I own because I know these are the movies I want to keep and rewatch. My tastes have also changed over the last decade. It's all about curating!
Similar issues and “growing pains” here to my brother. Thanks for a peek behind the scenes into the world of Kenny Levels! 😉 always appreciate your authenticity and what your showing is part of the collection mentality. Thanks for sharing
I put my blurays I have left on the bottom of my shelves. It's more boutique label stuff and steelbooks up top and then my black 4k case....then blu rays
I love the room tour, great collection. When it comes to the lights I would put them around the room close to the ceiling, if you want to put a defuser on them, it’ll look better even on camera. If you put them on your shelves put them around the shelves but behind them, the light will reflect off of the white walls and give a great glow. Just a suggestion.
I still have a pioneer 300 dvd changer which takes care easily my 300 dvds. The other 1500 Blu-ray’s and 4K on 2 industrial gorilla shelf units. 3D, Blu-ray and 4K in alphabetical order with letter dividers.
there was no vinegar syndrome in your 'boutique' section and I almost quit the video but then there was redemption in the 'drum set' section. good job.
Where did you buy your bigger shelves? I’ve been trying to find some good shelves for my collection. Can you put a link in to where they can be purchased?
I'm more of a genre type of collector, no alphabetizing needed. Sci-fi, Superhero, action, animation, comedy, romance, fantasy, creature features, sports movies, anime, etc... I have 815 titles movies, and shows
Sadly been getting rid of half my collection Over 2500 movies Just got too much Bullmoose gave me 220 for 200 DVDs Idk if it’s worth it but I need to downsize lol
I have my blu-rays in the living room, in order of date of release, with the exception of collection sets, which are in the first movie release date, but apart from one-off films. Television Blu-ray is in a separate area. Dvd's are done the same way, but in my drawing room. I definitely don't have the amount you do. I'm very selective and particular on what I upgrade or newly purchase on blu-ray. It has to be something I'm passionate about re-watching. I try to keep my spending in control. Although it has been difficult.
You think you have a mess but almost everything is well organized. If you see my studio after taking a glance you'll run away lol! I have all of my movies in boxes and those that are not are in those 336 discs carrying cases. But now there's something new in the last months I've spent thousand$ on retro videogames and systems. And they're in front of a big lot of movies so now they're blocked until I sort them out and put them in the closet. Now definitely my studio looks like the warehouse ending of Raiders Of The Lost Ark. Awesome collection good showing and cool video Ken!👉🙂👈
Ken i have been collecting movies for close to 38 years. I live in a studio apartment and i have over 35 thousand movies. You probably ask how i do it. I have rules that i maintain. Nothing in my collection other than movies. No posters. No toys. No bubble heads. No box sets. Strictly movies. Hey man up and throw half that stuff in the garbage or sell it. If i can make space in a studio you can do it to. Dont move stuff around put it out in the garbage or sell it. Dont hate me for my comment. Lol
Throw it away? Very American. He could also donate it to Goodwill or Salvation Army. I learned from my grandpa to not throw anything away if it has use to somebody else.🤔
Well, yes and no. While giving stuff to people who can use it is generally a good idea, throwing it away can be an important first step for hoarders to get control over it all.
@bened22 not when it comes to something that costs money and can be used or appreciated and cherished by some one less fortunate. Throwing things away in America began just 2 generations ago. Before that NOBODY threw anything away.😊
You have such an incredible collection! I love the fact that you still have dk64 on the n64 one of my favorite games of all times i still play it till this day. What is you favorite movie or collectors box in your collection? Nice video as always keep up the great work!
Ken, if you had to guess - or know exact numbers - how big is your Blu-ray/4K collection? I'm currently at approximately 4,000. I do get rid of some here and there while buying more but it's still (mostly) growing. You have a nice collection (especially of boutique releases). I am still trying to build a bigger collection of boutique titles and have been delving into those release more and more. Technically about 4,500 movies across 4,000 releases.
Absolutely fantastic video, love the tour and I can not wait to see it after you redo it, I don't think it is worse than most mancaves I have seen, certainly certainly not worse than mine, you only have so much space right?
Sorry to double post but smaller shelves suck ass - a pain to organize. I need about 75 cm to a meter otherwise a move on one shelf means moving a fuck tonne of others to make alphabetical room.
you probably should just build shelves at this point. I only have about 600 blu/4k films but I have a large bookcase that gives me enough room that it's not that difficult to shift stuff around. I think the fact that you try to keep boutique labels together makes it a lot more difficult to organize. I think it looks nice having all the Kino stuff together but straight alphabetical makes life much easier. Just my 2 cents
Thank god it's not only me. What worked better for me personally was as you have it with numbers then alphabetical but by genre also - its much easier to find stuff. Sci-Fi & Horror are two huge generas that need massive sub devision but teh rest are straight forward ish.. So Sci-Fi broken down by Space which was broken down by Astronaut and space program stuff then leading into Armageddon & Deep Impact etc but then outer space stuff starting with Star Trek and then alien/Predator and then visitation stuff like E.T. & Close encounters, batteries not included, cucoon etc and then alien invasions like The day the earth stood still & Independence day then space operas etc. So on and so fourth with Space Operas then Fantasy adventure and then Horror, action, crime, war, comedies, sitcoms, Cartoons and music. Stop taking deliveries from that guy who offloads crap on you. As my dvd's arnt worth shit anymore Im doing a dedicated hidden shelf myself I think and wait until people want them again the way they want vinyl.
You're doing great, Ken. If you ever saw the state of my movie room, you would DIE. 😂😂😂 It's a disaster zone. I have boxes everywhere full of movies that are waiting to go on the shelves I need to put together. Posters that need frames, piles for videos, if you can imagine it, it's happening. 😂😂😂 I can't wait for the reveal and I'm with you; space is an issue. Omg 😂😂😂
Ken, my question to you sir have you watched all of your movies in your collection? I had over 3,000 dvds sold my collection and started buying blu Rays once HD DVD was fazed out I have a little over 2,000 Blu rays and 4K together and some DvDs I kept and watch about all but 20-30 of my blus and 4Ks do you have same outcome or does anyone else have the collecting come over the entertainment aspect?
looks like you have to compress your collection sell off blurays you have 4k of and maybe cut back on the double dipping, but i have to admit that collection is sweet and that xbox360 collection is nice too.
I personally only buy movies I love with rewatch value and have my 4k and bluray mixed together in genre order. If I was you I'd get rid of some doubles and really think what will I actually watch and narrow down the collection. It looks like your room for space is getting a bit out of control. Failing that a bigger house lol great video as always dude
have you considered putting some of those random blurays in plastic sleeves i saved a bunch of room by getting rid of basic cases with no slip covers or slip covers that i didnt think were anything special i was about to drop another 150 dollars on another shelf my third, now i have room for those box sets wich take up a lot of space , however you cant see the spine once you take them out of case but storing them in alphabetical order helps a lot some sleeves have holes to put them in binders, or you can try boxes like if they were records , space can become an issue real quick so you have to try and think outside the box a bit
Alphabetize the collection this time Ken! Sorry, I’m OCD and it’s ALWAYS bothered me. 😂 Good luck to you on your overhaul and thanks for keeping physical media alive.

My collection is getting so massive that im having to put movies in boxes
Same here!🤔
Im several boxes deep
That's the situation I've been in for the past 2 years. Still doing it. Not sure what I'm going to do but I need to figure out something asap.
Same here, I have 815 movies with me in my small room currently, hopefully I'll be getting a larger area this summer.
@@MovieGuy0896 Get rid of the movies you'll never watch again.

Same - but I had them by genre. When it came to action stars they got their own grouping no matter teh genre and I miss it.
I went from almost 2000 movies to about 300 the last 2 years. I never allow myself to own outside the shelf space I have (2 wall shelves). Yea, people buying any & everything..
Indeed it is!
Did you try to digitize the other movies you got rid off?
Your room, has such a nice look to it. I really like it.
Boy, Ken that’s one hell of a collection
Similar issues and “growing pains” here to my brother. Thanks for a peek behind the scenes into the world of Kenny Levels! 😉 always appreciate your authenticity and what your showing is part of the collection mentality. Thanks for sharing
Cool stuff Ken. I look forward to seeing what you do with the room later on.
I put my blurays I have left on the bottom of my shelves. It's more boutique label stuff and steelbooks up top and then my black 4k case....then blu rays
You need floating wall shelves for your memorabilia, and what you do with the nicest VHS tapes is display them up top.
Is it weird that I want to help you organize your collection? Lol the organization is my favorite part.
Nope. Come on over. 😂
Curate and make some tough decisions to let stuff go. Thanks for the content Ken
@retro rest stop did that , he did a library purge
Loved this handheld video, Ken! Excited for your DVD & VHS closet! 🎥📽
Good stuff man! I just built new shelf’s for my collections of 1,600 films
I love the room tour, great collection.

good job.
But I did show off my Vinegar Syndrome section? Lol
@@midlevelmedia yeah, during the 'drum set' chapter. you've got a great looking collection! all around, not just VS!
Sorry if you get this question often, but where do you get your big shelves from? I’m moving soon and would love to have one for my collection!
Love your Movie Room!
I live vicariously through you, Ken. I only buy movies I love.
Chronological only for me - it’s like looking at the history of cinema play out, alphabetical doesn’t mean anything
Where did you buy your bigger shelves? I’ve been trying to find some good shelves for my collection. Can you put a link in to where they can be purchased?
My collection is in order by Genre,Studio and Release date. So it's like a history of film thru out the years
Daaaang! That's really cool. I'd love something like that
I too organize my movies by genre, my largest genre in my collection being sci-fi
I'm strictly an alphabetical guy. Makes managing my collection and finding stuff so much easier.
I'm more of a genre type of collector, no alphabetizing needed. Sci-fi, Superhero, action, animation, comedy, romance, fantasy, creature features, sports movies, anime, etc... I have 815 titles movies, and shows
I sympathize my collection needs organization as well
I'm becoming very minimalist about collection. It's good for space, saving money and keeping what I really like.
There's a lot of empty space up to the ceiling you could use if you built custom made shelving.
Sadly been getting rid of half my collection
Over 2500 movies
Just got too much
Bullmoose gave me 220 for 200 DVDs
Idk if it’s worth it but I need to downsize lol
Great Video Ken! It was great to see the collection.
Thanks for watching!

Awesome video yeah that’s the only problem we have got as a movie collector is space lol
I just put my dvds in a box. I give away Blu-ray’s when I update them to 4k.

Yes, those useless slipcovers take a lot of space. And they have exactly the same cover of the box. So what for?
Nice 🔥

I wanna know how much of your collection has been watched
Not nearly enough
I only have about 60 movies of real favorites. Don't even hardly watch those. Just too many new TV shows and movies to watch
You've got shelves like me where the manufacturer for some silly reason makes the middle row for CDs and . CDs? Really? Is this 2003?
CDs are still king.
Would you ever get rid of 300 of your movies
Yup and I did this week.
Aren't you supposed to destroy your copy of Joysticks? Heath from Cereal at midnight said that he was told to do that.
Haven't ran mine through the incinerator yet, but will soon. Lol
If you’re looking to unload any of your sealed media in bulk, let me know. I’d definitely be interested in a bulk buy.

Only embarrassing that majority of those games are xbox 😢 I’m so sorry
just not buy everything 😂
