This is one of my favorite Kim Carnes tunes...that bass guitar thumping...the drums...the synthesizers ...the electric guitars... the lyrics...Kim's voice...it a frickin masterpiece.
The VOYEUR lp was my xmas present in 1982, I was 16 then ! Since that day it is one of my fav albums of all time. So underrated. Side A of the album is just perfection itself. Side B is solid too.
VOYEUR is an almost perfect album! I love this song, especially the ending, of course! People didn't expect Kim to move in such a progressive sound for 1982. I find the album chilling and exciting, TO THIS DAY!
I agree with you 110%...this whole album was a freaking masterpiece that was so 80s yet so ahead of it's time...the sound was incredible...the guitars...the drums...that jamming baseline...she had so much more than just Betty Davis eyes. This album is timeless....I'll never stop playing it...
You didn't need to venture across the Atlantic in the 80s to find and enjoy Euro-Synth music, full of wonderful sounding keyboards and production, when Kim Carne's and company were right here all the time. :-)
I am 50 yrs old..Kin Carnes music huge part of my teen years..ONLY NOW DISCOVERING THIS VIDEO..DID NOT KNOW THERE WAS A VIDEO FOR THIS SONG... "VOYEUR" -GREAT ALBUM-
I'm a longtime kim Carnes fan she sang a duet with Kenny Rogers and after that I was hooked on her raspy voice my favorite song was Bette Davis eyes in 1981!
How can some people complain abut her? she is the beauty of 80s and the must nature real one ....she proves that sing live is better then studio-track on 8 or 24-track cumputers
Say You Don't Know Me Kim Carnes When I pass you on the street And I want to yell come back Don't tell 'em that you know me And when I'm standin' next to ya' In a crowded room And I want to yell come back Don't tell 'em that you know me Don't let on Don't let on Don't let on When they try and drive you out of your head Just turn instead and say you don't know me When I call your name out loud in a dream Don't tell 'em that you know me And when I look you in the eye Cause eyes never lie Don't tell 'em that you know me Don't let on Don't let on Don't let on When they try and drive you out of your head Just turn instead and say you don't know me When I talk too much about you And they look for my reaction Don't tell 'em that you know me And when I try too hard to hide it I look quick for some distraction Cause I can't let it show on me Don't let on Don't let on Don't let on When they try and drive you out of your head Just turn instead and say you don't know me Say you don't know me
Video Director: Russel Mulcahy EMI original plan was release a full-lenght video of Carnes' album, "Voyeur". This video was released in December 1981 during the Rod Stewart TV Special. This video was recorded at Record One studio, and it features Val Garay producer (2:37). "Say You Don't Know Me" was one of 2 new songs from "Voyeur" that Carnes offered during the "Mistaken Identity Summer Tour" (October 1981).
I remember staying up to watch the Rod Stewart special. I knew Kim was going to be on, but didn't realize they were debuting a new song. I was blown away.
Say, have you guy's ever heard of the '90 cop movie 'Impulse' (posted by: Max Moviez) starring Theresa Russell? Kim does a song at the end titled 'Everybody Needs Someone' which is pretty good. This song is also (posted by: Allan Jose) if you want to check it out.
horror/thriller author at amazon.com books sez: KC trades the intimate mood of "Mistaken Identity" for the production and bombast of "Voyeur" in an experiment that clearly doesn't work. Alas, nothing on this album even comes close to the emotional punch of "Miss You Tonite" or the title track.
Way ahead of her time, they did not know what to do with this one of a kind track and that's the way it should be, modern singers are all cookie cutter and no originality and don't take chances, i tip my bald head to you Kim
Ok.. so I loved Kim. I used to dream of being her keyboard player for betty davis eyes and voyer..But dam.. what a lousy stylist that group had. It shocks me to see how many artists that were good back then that couldn't come up with their own consistent look and presentation. The stylists were so god aweful bad even the same as today's musicians. Or wanna bees. it's what was missing from the artform.
Ahh the 80's - crazy hair styles and wild loud clothing styles. More outrageous that the 70's. And that whole androgynous thing. Both genders fell into it -- women were looking like men - men were looking like women. LOL
Some bands got it right and suceeded. But those that did knew what they were wanting to do with their music. She had hot sounds and some fun music(not all of it, but some). But if you look at her videos ... several different ones from the same album.. she has different attire, and a new feel in almost all of them. Big mistake for the 80's. Just no style.. and the art direction sucked. And you can't tell me that in 1981 the lables had no money.

"F" yeah!
That whole album is a masterpiece.
Voyeur is one of my very favorite albums ... the singles are all great, and Russell Mulcahy's videos for her songs are always wonderful.
Kim's voice is smoky like a good cigar !she has the right notes at all times for every song!🎵

Thanx 4 the tip I shall look out 4 all her hits now
Absolutely a masterpiece!
It rocks, but there's still more than enough disco in it for me, to make this one amazing song, and feeling. Great music is always timeless!
Anos 80...a nata da musica...Só feras!
I remember when his video premiered during at late night concert or music show.
her voice is just..amazing

Say You Don't Know Me
Kim Carnes
When I pass you on the street
And I want to yell come back
Don't tell 'em that you know me
And when I'm standin' next to ya'
In a crowded room
And I want to yell come back
Don't tell 'em that you know me
Don't let on
Don't let on
Don't let on
When they try and drive you out of your head
Just turn instead and say you don't know me
When I call your name out loud in a dream
Don't tell 'em that you know me
And when I look you in the eye
Cause eyes never lie
Don't tell 'em that you know me
Don't let on
Don't let on
Don't let on
When they try and drive you out of your head
Just turn instead and say you don't know me
When I talk too much about you
And they look for my reaction
Don't tell 'em that you know me
And when I try too hard to hide it
I look quick for some distraction
Cause I can't let it show on me
Don't let on
Don't let on
Don't let on
When they try and drive you out of your head
Just turn instead and say you don't know me
Say you don't know me
Sensacional.Epoca em que cantoras mostravam talento pelas músicas.

The bass player and guitar player are hot!!!! Hehe! Love them beards! ;)
I'm probably never going to see Kim in person, can someone tell me if there's a way to send her an email to at least say how much I love her music? =\
The song sounds like a rewrite of "Under My Thumb" which Kim did a cover.
Love this! End bit? Not so sure.
I do believe history has forgotten that Kim years before had/has bigger balls than Madonna😮😮😘😘😘❤️
I first heard this ,very faintly, from another dorm room, and, thought it was Rod Stewart, at first.

Good song but my favorite of hers is, “I Pretend”.
Soooo much bettttter than Blondie!!!
Kim almost sounds like Rod Stewart here.
tmr626 OMG, the first time I heard this, it was from another dorm room with the volume down.
I thought it was Rod Stewart.
I said that when I first heard her singing and that's quite weird considering her genre:P
She's always had the same scratchy voice he does. Lol
@tall32guy I am not a bear; actually I'm the opposite! LOL But I love them very much! And cubs as well. :)
where can I get a better sound track?
Love this album too. Album cover is fantastic. Shame this video has only thousands views while shit music (Iggy Azalea, etc.) has millions views. :-(

rivermonsoon it was the early 80s. Fashions were way different back then. Lol
she was making this video while bout a hundred people were at her party, she missed it to make this...
Chad Roberts sucky! But you gotta do what you gotta do.
As a gay man that has had sex with many DL “straight” men; this song is an anthem.
MY MOTHER ALWAYS THOUGHT SHE WAS ROD STEWART🤡🤡
Ahh the 80's - crazy hair styles and wild loud clothing styles. More outrageous that the 70's. And that whole androgynous thing. Both genders fell into it -- women were looking like men - men were looking like women. LOL
Weird as hell!
she's the best white girl EVER
AgentU Okay...I just think the song and video itself was a little strange, but yes, color aside a very talented singer.
the song is gooood and sexy...rocky too
listen to the lyrics
AgentU Kim had that raspy but pretty sexy voice! I miss old 80s MTV vids like this
she has one of the best voices ever
I did know Kansas woman made better pies.
