‘Often referred to as the Brunel Tower due to its location in the Brunel Centre, this behemoth of a building is in fact named after David Murray John - Clerk of Swindon Borough Council from 1938-1974. Murray John was an energetic politician and his efforts contributed to the influx of small Industry into Swindon following WWII. ‘

So a few things people might (or might not, and that’s fine) find interesting - yes having a single kidney is perfectly okay, and (same with having 3) not super unusual. If your kidneys fail and you need a transplant (yep, that’s me) then unless there’s some big reason to do so then they do not remove either of the originals but just pop one in. So then you technically have 3, but only 1 actually functions.
Despite what Rhys said there, general advice would 100% be to try and get the transplant donated from one of the parents, as a kidney transplant is a treatment, not a cure, and so if reasonably young when receiving the transplant then it’s probable that you’ll need another one in the future. Therefore it’s better to get one from the older possible donors while they’re still around!
You can’t, as far as I know, make a functioning kidney from half a kidney, but…you can take just half a liver and use it for a transplant, and both halves will continue to grow and develop.
It also happens that I was born in Swindon, but I’ve never lived in Harpenden, and I wasn’t ever excused from rugby thankfully!

I had a kidney removed in 1974. Never felt a loss!

When Rhys said "always had to have a water bottle on my table (at school)" it took me back to my high school days omg (I had kidney stones in my left kidney as a child so I underwent various procedures and that kidney ended up being just 30-50% functional, or something like this they said).
