It's 2006 and Ben Affleck says he will NEVER be a superhero again. It's 2013 and Ben Affleck says he's excited to be Batman. It's 2016 and Ben Affleck says he WILL DEFINITELY direct a Batman film. It's 2017 and Ben Affleck says he will NOT direct the Batman film. It's 2019 and Ben Affleck is DONE playing Batman. It's 2022 and Ben Affleck is playing Batman for the final time. It's 2023 and Ben Affleck has NAILED playing Batman in The Flash. It's 2023 and Ben Affleck will NOT direct a DC Film movie under James Gunn & Peter Safran. All jesting aside, I'm thrilled that he's gotten better and hope he continues to live a happy, healthy life!
I understand why you would propose studios having their own theaters, but I completely disagree because if you go back to when studios did that way back in the day, it created more problems than solutions and today it would cause a ton of issues that didn’t even exist at the time, at least to me. I respect that you have a different point of view though and it was a great episode!
While Affleck seems to be on good terms with Zack and wouldnt throw him under the bus specifically, I think the implication was he was miserable throughout his entire experience as Batman, with it reaching it's worst once Whedon took over. He makes comments about hating the suit and working on greenscreens and repetitive story beats and dialogue. I think when he says he isn't interested in the direction Gunn is going means more of the same. Like franchise building and shared universes and lack of creative control.
It's too bad things didn't work out better for Affleck as Batman. Considering how much he loves the character. He should have gotten at least one solo movie. How DC screwed that up is still unbelievable to me. He's still my favorite Batman and at least I will always have Batman v Superman and Zack Snyder's Justice League to enjoy him in. I wish we got more though.
I really appreciate your candor when it comes to your past. Kristian I could tell you were going through it that freak out felt real and honest and I don’t blame you for being human. I think the issue with Shazam 2 tracking to a 30$ mil opening is that the general movie audience doesn't know or care who shazam is, I think DC studios needs to build their brand with their A list character first...Superman, Batman, WW..to get momentum going and get people excited for the DCU and then slowly introduce lesser known "B" and "C" level characters (shazam, blue beetle, booster gold, etc) in the "big" team up movies. Yeah I truly believe Ben’s decision not to direct for DC comes less from the direction of the DCU is going and more so with his experience having dealt with the old WB and comic book genre in the past. I’m wishing him the best of luck regardless🙌🏾
Whatever vision Gunn has, just because Affleck's not on board with it, doesn't mean it's a bad idea. Gunn already confirmed that the next Batman movie under the new continuity will be about him and Damien as Robin, with the goal of expanding the Bat-Family. With Matt Reeves/Pattinson already doing a more hard-boiled, dark Batman that Affleck probably wanted to make in the first place, doing something lighter for Gunn's DCU might not be something Affleck wants to do, and that's fine. If the vision isn't in line with what Affleck wants to do, and he's already got horrible experiences with this property, why would he want to commit any more time to it?
@@thedefinitionisthisI’m confused, nothing you said really applied to my comment lol. I never said his direction was bad, I said the decision Afleck made came less from what he thought of the direction and more so from his past experiences with the genre lol
Ben is not as scorched earth as I want him to be. I much rather Ben Affleck divorce himself from Warner Bros as a whole. WB did him dirty and he won them their last best picture film. Real talk how they did Ben Zack and the entire cast of JL made me no longer want to support them as a consumer or audition for any of their productions. I hate WB.
@@JohnnySturdivant You hate the old WB you mean? The company that was sold to Discovery and now has entirely new leadership? Or do you not care at all and it’s just “I hate the brand forever now” no matter who’s in charge? Lol
@@JadenCole77 I’m scorched earth with it. That brand has a lot to do to win me back. I have people affected by AT&T ran WB and most of that stuff where they really disrespected Ben was pre AT&T under Kevin Tsujihara but was exasperated by AT&T. So I’m out on the brand as a whole but hey if they start treating the artist the better make an effort especially with Ben (he’s a hero of mine directing wise) then I could be swayed.
The fact Ben Affleck took the meeting with Gunn in the first place, gives me the impression he was open to potentially directing a DCU film. Somewhere during that meeting something was said that turned Affleck off. I’m really curious what exactly that was. I understand his previous experience was terrible, but I’m thinking this is more about Gunn and his vision. On the flip side, Ben could possibly direct a DC else-worlds film, like Joker or The Batman. I’m still hoping he changes his mind one day.
@@jamaicaqueens22 You might be right. They might have baited him by saying “come by and let’s talk Batman.” Then he gets there and they tell him, “Yeah, so what had happened was…”
Not only shared universe, but the tone as well. James Gunn's SS & Peacemaker have very MCU/Guardians' comedic tone except with added rated R stuff. I imagine that's not the type of tone Ben wants to work with. And while you can argue that Batman can have a very different tone to SS / Peacemaker, but being in a shared universe, the different movies all still have to have a similar tone to work well.
@@Yic17Studio nah, Gunn's tone displayed in SS was more from his troma studio days because that who he is at heart. He can't lean into that tendency with Marvel.
@@dnice4145 Well, like I said, it's MCU tone but rated R. You remove the rated R stuff, it's not so different from MCU's tone. That's how I feel anyway.
@@Yic17Studio that's true. The main reason Ben chose to play Batman is because he really liked Snyder's violent take on Batman. I'm guessing gunn's vision just didn't appeal to him, so they parted ways amicably.
I hadn't seen the Snyder/Darkseid clip yet, very interesting. I hate doing the whole Speculation Dart Board thing, but what if there's a special presentation of what the next Justice League story was going to be? It could serve as a huge thank you to the fans for the support and getting the Snyder Cut out there, and also a way for Snyder and that production crew to leave all the cards on the table and officially move on, kind of clearing the road for Gunn's DCU moving forward. I personally love, love, LOVE behind the scenes stuff and would be so happy to see those storyboards, costume designs, officially give us the plotline that sadly, and for myriad reasons, can't be anymore. Akin to what Schnepp did with his Superman Lives documentary, while not throwing Whedon and the previous WB execs under the bus. Would I go Man of Steel in theatres again? ABSOLUTELY, and if they pepper that stuff in there to make a crap load of money from the Snyderverse supporters, I'm there. Ah, one can hope. Also, props to whomever put some stubble on Cavill's chin for that graphic, chef's kiss funny. Coy, I picked up Something is Killing the Children after last week. Whoa yea, I'm excited for that Netflix show! Thanks you guys!

I think Gunn's DCU is going to feel very much like MCU but with more R rated stuff. Like Peacemaker - it really is just MCU tone + more violence. So I can imagine that's not the type of tone Ben wants to work with.
53:52 I get it’s 2023 and we’ve used a lot of combos for titles but Rebel Moon sounds like a SW movie. Not the title to choose to make a new IP without pre programmed thoughts, IMO
One of the things I've always liked about Ben Affleck is how honest he is when asked about anything. He gives it to us straight; no overly polite bullshit rehearsed answers. I wish a lot more celebrities were like that. I'd love to hear what the lead actress of Batgirl really thinks about her movie being cancelled. I get where he's coming from too. He doesn't want to risk going down that hole he did before and I can't blame him. As for Shazam 2, it's a bummer that it probably won't do well this weekend, which is too bad because it's actually quite good. In fact, I think it's better than the first one. The buzz and marketing haven't been great, though, for some reason. I saw it in IMAX Friday afternoon and there was hardly anyone in the theater. Then again, a lot of people were still at work and kids just got out of school at that time. And the Darkseid teasers are a little confusing, especially with Henry Cavill involved. If he's not Superman anymore, then what's the deal?
I just feel really bad for Affleck. You can see how comic books and heroes were a part of him throughout his career. To have such a bad affiliation is heart breaking
I think the idea of having studio-based theaters would a terrible idea for people who don’t live in big cities or close to them. What would are people supposed to do if they want to see the newest Batman movie but the closest WB theater is 50 miles away? Another question would studio movies only be exclusive to their theaters? If that’s the case small mom-and-pop theaters would fold faster than AMC and Regal. I feel that studio-based theater would further accelerate the death of the in person movie going experience causing a streaming-based entertainment society. Sure I’ll save big studios money but it will screw over regular people in the long run.
Great show today everyone! Interesting story about Affleck and I'm a little more interested in James gunn superman after hearing his thoughts on it. That Bzzrk art looked really good from boom!
The Friday 7PM Shazam 2 at my local theater has 9 tickets sold already. The 7PM on the 24th for John Wick 4 has ~40 sold already. That’s not a good sign for Shazam 2…
I don't know how you can talk about this genre and still be excited. Comic book movies have been done to death and there's very little to anywhere they can go that's different.
I love Ben Afflecks acting and directing and had no idea about this Air movie coming out until the DC comments. The red head has a point on Ben Affleck knowing people would talk about his movie now 😂
I do not think Affleck is lying one bit. Gunn and Affleck probably had multiple meetings and Affleck likely did have interest initially which was where they were at when Gunn said as much. Since then he probably made his mind up that he didn't want to go back to that. His answer in that interview about his Justice League experience says all you need to know about why he ultimately decided not to do it. He's such a big fan that I believe him being tempted back initially but no he's done.
Saw Shazam with the wife and crew last night. That theatre was empty. Felt kinda bad. Because honestly, the movie itself, while pretty formulaic, was still a lot of fun, with some cool action and laughs. Definitely felt like it skewed younger, but it was still enjoyable. As always the family dynamic was easily the best part of the movie. The kids/parents and the kids as the Shazamily are really endearing, and hope they still have a place in Gunn's DCU... As for Affleck, I'm sure he doesn't wanna set foot in the superhero genre again, outside his appearances in Flash & Aquaman. Daredevil was poorly received, and he clearly had a rough go of it during the Snyder tenure (though, he still seems to respect Snyder as a collaborator), but I definitely am not surprised he doesn't want to commit any more extended time to something as in-depth as a superhero continuity. The Snyder/Whedon fiasco was taxing, and he was facing turmoil in his personal life during that time. Why would he want to revisit that era, so to speak? Whatever discussions he may have had with Gunn, it doesn't necessarily mean Gunn's vision is bad (or maybe it is?), it just isn't Affleck's flavor, and that's fine. And I guess it's pretty macro to think of this "meeting" as promotion for "Air".... but as a sports guy, I'm VERY stoked for it regardless.
I hear Robert Burnett has some time available now that he’s not on the John Campea show as much. I think he would be a good addition to what you have going on this channel! Keep up the great work!
@@kelex12 Did John announced that? Maybe I missed it. I noticed the change regarding the desks (now John is the only one in the wide shot with his big desk, which I really really doesn't like tbh because now it feels like when they were back in the garage during the pandemic...less personal. I way preferred when everyone was in the same shot because it felt like a conversation, but anyway I digress haha) and the fact that Rob was there less often but I thought it was because his dog that just gave birth. Nothing against Ray or Jonathan, but I would have Rob and Kriss at the same time way more than cutting to either of them more often.
🤦🏾🙄🤷🏾 Affleck understands Batman & James Gunn seems ego driven. No pure Batman fan, who understands the character wants to see a light hearted, Campy, colorful, Batman as a jokester, whom doesn't take himself too seriously.😳🤷🏾🙄 🤔IT ISN'T THAT AFFLECK DOESN'T WANT TO BE IN THE COWL🤦🏾HE Knows that James Gunn doesn't understand the character. Gunn should play to his strengths and offer Affleck complete creative control over the character and beg Nolan to come back and put him on director duties giving him complete freedom to write Batman film's. Keaton went through this same thing when WB hired Schumacher to make Batman Forever. I feel it in my gut 🤦🏾🤔🙄that James Gunn doesn't understand Batman as a character and I don't think he even cares about maintaining the character's credibility on the big screen. I I understand Affleck's proposition as he has more to lose if he follows James Gunn, who already has invested interest in order minor characters from marvel & other comic books🤦🏾😔
Man, gotta say I'm bummed by the SHAZAM stuff. I did like the first one, but my biggest complaint was Shazam and Billy felt like two completely different people and it sounds like that is even worse in the second one. I'm a fan of David F Sandberg, but that really feels like a directing decision that just doesn't work for me.
As far as the studio theaters go, there's no way I'd want to drive across town to see specific movies. I would want to go to my local theater, and if not, I'll catch it on streaming.
i dont see why kristian would view gunn being open, honest and upfront online all the time as a challenging thing to do.......transparancy is honesty. dont see how that is difficult way to live. i do it 24/7
I think it would be a win win for wb james gunn and the fans to give snyder 2 animated movies completing his vision. James gunn can than start a new universe with no bagage. Let snyder also give a statment that this is the end give gunns universe a chance now. Personaly what i have heard from zack im not a fan of ehat his future plans was for the vision but i think this way everyone wins and everyone can finaly move on.

"By playing a superhero in Daredevil, I have inoculated myself from ever playing another superhero. Wearing a costume was a source of humiliation for me and something I wouldn't want to do again soon." -Ben Affleck, 2006 Ben Affleck has made overdramatic comments in the past, and then changed his mind. So he may feel a certain way now, but might not feel that way in a few years.
I think it’s SnyderCon. All money going to the AFSP. If it’s a re-release of Snyder’s films, I know for a fact Snyder said JL will have an intermission. Good show as always guys.
Yeah, without a doubt when Gunn is doing the press tour for Guardians of the Galaxy III, he's going to spend more time answering questions about whose going to play Superman in his movie than answering questions about the Guardians.
Snyder’s MOS & BvS were disappointing. If WB did decide to stay with Snyder’s original JL (and didn’t hire Whedon), I doubt it would’ve done better than BvS & Whedon’s JL box office gross.
This show popped up in my feed for some reason. It's funny how I grew to like Affleck's Batman much more in the later movies and his feelings were that he also was finally finding himself in the role. It's just unfortunate he'll never give us a real Batman-focused movie, but if it's better for his mental health then hell yea move on and don't look back.
Yeah, I think Affleck is "superheroed out" after going through what he went through on JL, his lack of enjoyment in the role as well as the various alcohol problems and his divorce. It sucks, but it is what it is....
Just some constructive criticism coming from a fan of your videos... I don't click on a lot of these Thumbnails that have shock look faces. I always keep scrolling because it's usually clickbait. Thumbnails could use some upgrading 👍thanks keep up the good work and hope to see you on Campeas show soon!!!
Ben Affleck got tired of being lied to by Warner Brothers. He's not getting invested in long term plans with a company that can't tell where the hell they're going day-to-day. It's strange, because all Warner Brothers had to do was give Zack Snyder two more Justice League movies to wrap up his universe, and then put the Flash movie out to reboot it all. That would have made the fans, Snyder, and all of the actors involved happy, and might have shown soft rebooting everything was not the way to go. Warner Brothers is a mess of a company lately. An absolute mess. They can't seem to do anything right, and have pissed off not only their fans, but some of their best creative types. Not good.
Zack Snyder is doing Snyder Con 2 for AFSP to raise money. It's for a 3 day weekend. It's not going to get a wide rerelease. Zack is showing his films for his fans and doing a Q and A it's not that deep. People can relax. The Snyderverse isn't coming back. As much as I want to see the end of Zack's story. I made my peace with it but I still excited for Snyder Con and for the charity he's doing.
I'm a little worried about James Gunn writing and directing a Superman movie. I didn't really care for Guardians 2 and I hated his Suicide Squad movie. As long as his stupid humor and over the top violence is not in it (probably not with PG-13) and the tone is completely different than those movies then I will be alright with it and give it a chance. I'll keep an open mind and hope he does something great.
I saw Shazam on friday with two friends we all loved it. One of them dident like Superhero movies in generall but really liked this one. I am hoping we Get a third one. But if not Shazam in other DC movies would be great as well. I liked the post credit tease with Shazam
I’m kinda surprised you think Gunn addressing the Ben situation is the right move. Seeing as you’re pretty anti-twitter. I feel like this is the one Gunn might want to leave alone lol. From the sounds of it, it sounds pretty clear where Ben is at mentally. Don’t think there’s much need to add more fuel to the fire respectfully.
Theaters are a dying sector. The maintenance alone is not worth it when you can lock in buyers with a monthly subscription (aka tickets prices) from the comfort of their home(streaming). As it could be cool to make theaters cater to only their company movies but same time they dont pump out enough movies to continually operate the theaters for profit IF they were profitable which they're not. Disney is close but is now suffering from quantity vs quality. Conventionizing a theater for said company may be cool but redundant and huge risk and mostly likely not profitable.
I know you'll always keep the details close to the chest and it's totally understandable, but man that I'm curious about what really happened with Collider. I'm glad you open up once in a while about it because on the front, apart from Schnepp and your brother passings, everything seemed okay. Collider live was the only thing left I was watching at that point to be honest because I thought many other shows became stale, robotic, lacked passion and truthfully I was tired of the American politics being brought up more and more when it didn't need to be. I'm guessing you're better off being your own boss, even if that brings its challgenges and stress for sure.
30:53 except for the fact he explicitly DID get in the way or somebodys announcement, hours after his so called "friend" Zack Snyder posted something, THEN he posts, using the sympathy card to boot (yet cant remember his fathers birthday? interesting how that works)
I don't think anything Gunn writes will be better, then the original script Affleck had for the Batman. Ben is loyal to Zack Snyder, in the same way Bale is to Nolan.
If Ben isnt a fan of the direction James and Peter are taking DC in.... I'm not so sure I am either, the guy who's won 2 Oscar's and has been in hollywood that long.... it does make me worry for DC
He wasn't happy, his mental health was seriously in jeopardy. Why would someone who doesn't exactly need the money, risk their well-being. Time is valuable why spend it being unhappy.
Did anyone else experience weird video stutters with today's show after it was uploaded? Became nearly impossible to watch at some points. 🤔 Anyway. I can relate to Coy's dopamine rage addiction regardlng Twitter. It's a real thing... Maybe someone should start a support help group for this... 🤔
Coy is such a gullible James Gunn fanboy Does anyone for one second believe that Gunn had genuinely forgotten that the release date of the Superman movie that he's been writing (and planning to direct all along), coincided with his own deceased father's birthday? And that it was his brother that reminded him of it? My own mom's been dead for over ten years now and not a year goes by where I go "Oh damn! it was mom's birthday two weeks ago and I totally forgot all about it". Never in the last 10+ years has that thought ever passed my mind once! Because it's impossible to forget something like that for crying out loud. I mean, come on man. That's emotional maniputation (by Gunn) and sentiment exploitaion (to promote a frickkin' movie) at it's very worst. How much do you wanna bet that he picked that release date for THAT very reason and that the movie he's writing is going to focus very heavily on Clark's relationship with his two fathers, and that this (and the fact that it coincides with Gunn's own father's birthday) will become a big talking point on the promotional tour of the movie? Give me a friggin' break!!!
Affleck praised Snyder that’s why he came back. Also it seems like he just didn’t want to work with gunns story moving forward cause it reminds him of the weadon fiasco.
I find your discussion about the Affleck/Gunn part interesting. However I feel like it was a bit to shallow and positive. To me, everything that is happening to DC Studio and Gunn right now (Affleck hardcore rejecting Gunn, Gunn only publicly hires himself to the new DC slate either as writer or director for multiple projects, Gunn fighting with fans on twitter, or the trades and still publicly having one foot in the snyderverse). My faith in Gunn is dropping. I don't mind having him as writer or director. But come on.. Are there no one else he can hire for his DC slate? I worry the superman movie is flopping hard.
He has his own personal reasons for helming it, he has elaborated in the past about finding the right director and not committing to Superman unless he felt a deep connection with it to spend two years directing it....
Zero chance Zack Snyder makes anymore DC movies. Netflix would also benefit so little from this. It would only be a giant debt which is too dangerous for them right now. Ben Affleck also made it clear that doing movies like this made him want to kill himself. Its not just Whedon. Its that whole world. He wants to do smaller stuff. Ben has made it clear as day.

Harloff, you’re the 🐐! I just wanted to say I’ve been listening on Spotify all of the time. You told me a while ago that downloading the episodes helps the show! I haven’t left a RUclips comment in what feels like ages. Thanks again for giving me endless entertainment while on the road and in the gym! ❤️
I’m still furious about the Cavill thing.
I wish he was back.
I think Gunn's DCU is going to feel very much like MCU but with more R rated stuff. Like Peacemaker - it really is just MCU tone + more violence. So I can imagine that's not the type of tone Ben wants to work with.
Come to Houston. Been listening since the AMC/ collider days 🔥🔥🔥
Feels like just a re-release.
I just feel really bad for Affleck. You can see how comic books and heroes were a part of him throughout his career. To have such a bad affiliation is heart breaking
Agreed.
Fair enough, sorry you don't dig it!
Agree with this.
So many big things (pun intended) happening for you guys! Congrats on the growth of the channel! So happy for all of you!

He is on John's show everyday no?
@@TheKristianHarloff Campea changed the format. He only has one other panelist on with him at a time now. So Kris and Robert alternate days.

Winston dropping the F bomb while talking about Rasheed Wallace is too perfect
Hahah
As far as the studio theaters go, there's no way I'd want to drive across town to see specific movies. I would want to go to my local theater, and if not, I'll catch it on streaming.
Why would you have to go across town?
@@TheKristianHarloff It was mostly just a hypothetical. I couldn't really imagine the studio theaters being widespread. At least not initially.
Coy is really finding his rhythm within this space, he's calmer and the conversation flows because of it
Love this team.
i dont see why kristian would view gunn being open, honest and upfront online all the time as a challenging thing to do.......transparancy is honesty. dont see how that is difficult way to live. i do it 24/7
Snyder is for sure doing Snyder Con 2. And based off of Zack’s recent posts I believe the Snyderverse is back to finish as a streaming series.
Ps i am a fan of everythin snyderverse that did come out ( besides ww2 srry)

Ben Affleck has made overdramatic comments in the past, and then changed his mind. So he may feel a certain way now, but might not feel that way in a few years.
Gunn needs to get off of social media. The backlash is growing
I think it’s SnyderCon. All money going to the AFSP.
If it’s a re-release of Snyder’s films, I know for a fact Snyder said JL will have an intermission.

Snyder’s MOS & BvS were disappointing. If WB did decide to stay with Snyder’s original JL (and didn’t hire Whedon), I doubt it would’ve done better than BvS & Whedon’s JL box office gross.
Congrats on the site!!

Jennifer Holland wasn't in the post credit of black Adam. She makes an appearance somewhere in the third act.
Right! Forgot!
Well hopefully we see ya back! Thanks for stopping by!

GREAT episode
Yeah, I think Affleck is "superheroed out" after going through what he went through on JL, his lack of enjoyment in the role as well as the various alcohol problems and his divorce. It sucks, but it is what it is....
Just some constructive criticism coming from a fan of your videos... I don't click on a lot of these Thumbnails that have shock look faces. I always keep scrolling because it's usually clickbait. Thumbnails could use some upgrading 👍thanks keep up the good work and hope to see you on Campeas show soon!!!
I never understand this to be honest. So me just staring stoic is better? Seriously asking.
So there's a Dunkin the west coast?? I couldn't find one the last time I was in Cali lmao 😅
They are all over the place now.
Maybe Zach’s going to make a Darksied movie in Gunn’s DCU?

@@hunteriggy2762I don’t think he lied about meeting with him. I think this is just the result of said meeting.

Did anyone else experience weird video stutters with today's show after it was uploaded? Became nearly impossible to watch at some points. 🤔
Anyway. I can relate to Coy's dopamine rage addiction regardlng Twitter. It's a real thing... Maybe someone should start a support help group for this... 🤔
Yeah I noticed it after the upload, not sure what happened there.
Coy is such a gullible James Gunn fanboy
Does anyone for one second believe that Gunn had genuinely forgotten that the release date of the Superman movie that he's been writing (and planning to direct all along), coincided with his own deceased father's birthday?
So what you are aying is that you are a fan?!
Sorry for your loss
Affleck praised Snyder that’s why he came back. Also it seems like he just didn’t want to work with gunns story moving forward cause it reminds him of the weadon fiasco.
Could be.
