Not a stretch at all. GRRM has said that Sam from the Night's Watch is in fact based on and meant to be a homage to Sam from The Lord of the Rings. He's one of the very few genuinely good people in this story.
There is a pretty cool Easter Egg in the opening credits you might like. Pause on the iron rings that circle the golden globe. The first time, there is a dragon. The second time, there is a wolf, lion and stag (maybe more, it's been a while since I've watched) attacking the dragon. In the last scene, there is a wolf, lion and a bear (again, maybe others) bowing to a crowned stag. The three scenes depict Robert's Rebellion.
So wait, who's the bear? The Mormonts? Wouldn't they be much too minor to be included as a symbol of the rebellion? Are you sure that bear isn't a rose or an eagle :)
We can all remember that epic scene where he got his name, with him yelling "Can do, no fuss!" over and over again, as Sansa begged him not to drop the rope holding her up above the reach of a swarm of Stone Men.
@@jerodast Right????? And that time he was on the bridge holding off the Lannister army as the Northerners were being pushed back, yelling "Fly you Fenns!". Such a missed opportunity for the show, imo...
I wrote a short story as a kid about a brave knight rescuing a princess from an evil wizard named Izadork, Gandoof could've been a great assistant to Izadork. Lol
George RR Martin added the second r to his name because his hero is JRR Tolkien. And Sam is the bestie in The Lord of the Rings as well as Game of Thrones. You can also see the borrowed some things from the movie Dragonslayer (1981).
Wow .... Some people will hate me for admitting this but damn her speculations were really insightful and on point. Especially one ... That was remarkable! Well done.
There were things said or done that will make more sense or have a bigger impact later in the show. Sometimes within the same season. Sometimes it takes several seasons. That being said, the show really is best watched a second time to catch all these little hints and portends.
Heres an easy Lord of the Rings connection. Whats the name of Jon Snows best friend? Sam. But in actuality, the books were inspired by the real life event known as "The War of the Roses." It was a war in England that took place over sevearl decades. Mostly between the houses of Lancastor(Lanister) and York(Stark). It ended with the start of the Tudor dynasty that put Henry the 7th, Henry the 8ths father on the thrown. He became king by defeating and killing Richard the 3rd of Shakespear fame, in battle.
Binge watched a lot of videos this week but this is my first comment and I just wanted to say "Goddammit why did I start another GoT reaction series I knew I'd get addicted to before they finished Season 1!" But seriously; loving the channel so far you guys are great and I'm sure you'll hit your 40k goal in no time. Keep up the good work!
To be honest, the more I watch such reactions, the more I'm convinced that Tyrion wasn't as good as he looked like. Myself, I always loved him and considered him to be a good hand. But Cersei got the point: he never considered ruling seriously.
Replace a name in a movie or TV show title with "Gandoof". I'll start with a few: Gandoof Powers: International Man of Mystery Run Gandoof Run (Run Lola Run if this is a little too obscure for some people) Monty Python's Life of Gandoof My Cousin Gandoof
Game of Thrones has no connections to Lord of the Rings. The two could hardly be any more different. The sole connection is that Sean Bean appears in both.
"I'm not questioning your honor. I'm denying its existence" That is one of the best burns of all time.
Maybe the real Gandoof was the reactors we watched along the way.
Would the real Gandoof please stand up.

Pippin the Hobbit is represented by Pypar (Pyp), and Merry is represented by Eddison (Dolorous Edd). Dolorous as antonym to Merry.
@@gerardolopez6851 Good call. You're right.
I believe GRRM has also said Sam is his self-insert character?
Robert's bastard son is named Gendry, but his close friends call him Gandoof.

@@jerodast I thought it was a bear. It's hard to see on youtube as opposed to the bluray, and it has been a while, so I could be wrong.
I bet your minds were blown when gandoof stark showed up haha
Honestly pretty disappointed they didn't include Gandufus, he was my favourite character from the books :/

'Woops!' 😂😂😂😂😂
“Gandoof”. Must live on! From now on, any goofy things on the channel should get a shout out! “Gandoof!!!!”

Why would anyone hate you for admitting this
One downside of reactions is not experiencing this in a dark room getting the movie night experience
they should watch in darkness and use night vision cameras :)

You two always bring a smile to my face. Thank you
The targeryans are this universe version of Elves, kinda. They are human, but on a pedestal like the elves of lord of the rings.
love your reaction as always makes getting through my work week worth it!!!
Oh, yeah, the reparte between Aria and Gandoof is some of the best! Lol. His name in Gendry.

It is not a stretch, Sam is actually based of The author and Sam from lord of the rings. At least the name. 100% correct.
Ok I guess the Sam connection at the end redeems you for the Gandoof comment from the beginning....
Hope you two are having an great and awesome day ❤
A Gandoof has no name.
Agreed, Ari and Ganduf are a great pair!

😬
Lmaaaaao
Gandoof is hilarious 😂😂😂
Yep, Samwell Tarly was inspired by Samwise Gamgee - good spot, Gandoof! 😂😜
All hail the mighty Gandoof! First of his name!!!
You thought Littlefinger was gonna be kind & understanding? Oh you sweet summer child...you still have alot to learn.
Replace a name in a movie or TV show title with "Gandoof". I'll start with a few:
Gandoof Powers: International Man of Mystery
Run Gandoof Run (Run Lola Run if this is a little too obscure for some people)
Monty Python's Life of Gandoof
My Cousin Gandoof
"The name's Bond. Gandoof Bond."
"And I'm in a movie called 'The Man With the Golden Gandoof'."
Gandoofus. Am I the first to call that out.
Sam is the only boyfriend material in this entire show.
🤡
Please react history and lore
No
👏🏻👍🏻

Gandoof? really? wow...
Y’all should watch Godzilla the series
#Gandoof
GoT already have a character names Sam, we don't need 2
Now go and listen again to what she actually said ... 😏
