So many of these stories are about people never satisfied with who they are with and what they have, always wanting more, envious. This is just another example. Well narrated, very detailed and we know every character's story to its ending. Thank you.

I enjoyed the fact how both women abandoned him like yesterday's trash. Obsession is a mighty potent addiction in humans. I believe he poisoned his housekeeper. Too bad he didn't get caught for that one.
Makes me wonder what his family thought of his crime. I know his sister testified against him, but the mother? Other siblings?

I believe that he killed the second lady. He was considered to no longer be a threat to society, but it was like at the end of A Clockwork Orange, when he said, "I was cured all right".
Poor Mrs Bertrand. Must have been an awful life for her stuck in the middle of that nightmare. Glad she moved away & started a new life for herself & the children
This feels special, y'all; for once my schedule was different in a way that made me able to watch earlier instead of later. Brief Case time, on time, lol
I'm just watching but it's been on my mind.
What an amazing case that was clearly well researched. There is plenty of grief to go around but I feel particularly sad for his dear, sweet wife. What she had to endure because of Bertrand is horrible. I always wonder what happened to the children in cases like these. Thanks so much. Another story of how selfish, obsessed people can destroy all the innocent people around them.
Im always astonished by how successful people choose to ruin their lives and the lengths they will go to in order to ensure that said ruination is complete. 🙄🤦🏼♀️

I love hearing about the investigative process in these old cases. It always amazes me how detectives were able to piece evidence together!

you can go to your local public library or city archives and pull up criminal cases. I could see looking for "murder" from a specific year and finding any that catch your eye. Then finding birth records and facts about the era like "impossible to travel by steam ship all the way to Australia" and bring life to the story.
@@danktankdragkings7117 Library, maybe. Depends on its size, etc. City archives are harder to access from a distance and would probably cost a lot from a distance. But thank you. That's a good way to start.

No, my friend. The Lippschitz family did not change their name to Bertrand because "it was easier to pronounce." They changed it because anyone living in an English-speaking country and sporting a name with "schitz" in it, is begging to be mocked straight into madness.
Growing up in New York City, which has larger Jewish population than the State of Israel, my friends and I would search the Yellow Pages for Lippschitzes to call. As soon as someone answered, we'd shout, "If you're Lippschitz, my ass talks!"
Yes, I know we're all going to hell. At least we'll get to meet some of your fascinating subjects there.

Bc I have been checking every half hour for this upload. Henry was one obsessed individual, a very self-destructive persona to live. A huge amount of information to cover in a short period of time. As Crimey stated, awesome illustrations uploaded. Great narration, this one has to be in your top Ten.

Another vicious love triangle when have they ever ended well
The Mad Dentist. He was released from prison as he was deemed to not be a danger to society, then immediately deported from that society to the one in England. Then of course he was no danger to society in Australia.

If they did look into the housekeepers death and saw no evidence of foul play it’s probably accurate. I’m relatively certain by that time medical examiners were able to test for poisons.

Although gold was discovered in Bathurst, the gold rush started in Bendigo Victoria as that's where all the gold was, a minuscule amount of gold was in Bathurst compared to Bendigo and everyone flocked to Bendigo.

Dear Briefcase, very good program. Henry louis Bertrand started out on the right track in the beginning, however, instead of being a loyal father and husband he detoured. Seamed he lost his focus which should have been on his family rather than the other women, Henry is not all to blame though. His mistress should not have allowed the affair. Should have stopped it from the beginning. They both murdered that man . Henrys mistress also should have gone to jail. For she was involved as well. Perhaps if she had been loyal and faithful to her husband, he would not have drunk so much , or hit her. Great Job Briefcase. Awesome.

An extraordinary obsession. Henry's character flaw may have always been present but unleashed by his infatuation for this 'other woman'.
It needs to be noticed that when people suspect they are being poisoned they are quite often right.
