    Great video. I just had my 2003 Mini Cooper hydraulic power steering pump replaced under warranty at the dealer. I did have other recommendations. They found the Power steering hose from the reservoir to the rack leaking fluid. I read this thread and it doesn't appear to be the same as reservoir to pump. They gave me the quote here in California so I am looking to replace the hose myself. I hope to see a video on the res. to rack hose replacement soon in the future. Thanks Brian.

    Thanks Brian! Highly informative and exactly what I need to replace my weeping power steering reservoir hoses. A question / observation: couldn't you have used your fluid extractor to suck out some fluid from the hose before removing the bottom clamp?

    oh my god thank u so much i love you!!!! i just got my mini cooper s 2003 75k on clock and i think this pipe is leaking it has had a brand new pump fitted 1000 miles ago in my paperwork so it's not that. And the pipe looks very worn and there is fluid under the car that feels not like oil and my oil is not going down. but break fluid is and the area it is wet is EXACTLY the same spot under the car the hoze connects it makes so much sense watching this video!

    Hi Brian, good video. Have you ever made or even seen how to R/R rear window regulators on a 2005 MINI convertible? Can't find that anywhere on YT. Hopefully you or someone can help. Thank you.

    So on this video you replaced the hose that flows from the reservoir to the pump (flowing downward) correct? The hose behind it briefly seen is the return hose (flowing upward)?

    I found my Mini power steering fluid leaking on the hoses. Is it the reason you replaced them due to the leaking?

    Hi Brian, Im thinking of taking on this project on as my mini cooper has the same ps hose- leak issue. However, there are two hoses, the (return) and the (feed). Your video will certainly help me with the feed replacement. But (from your experience) is the return hose replacement that much harder to approach? While i only get glimpses of the return hose in this video, my research tells me that they are adjacent to each other both from the reservoir on down to the pump. Is that correct? and if so, are there any parts i would need to remove when approaching the return hose replacement? Thanks in advance.

      @HowtoAutomotive  6 лет назад

      Frank R I believe the two hoses are adjacent to each other. As far as what to remove it’s hard for me to say I did this vehicle quite a while ago. But if I remember right it was pretty straightforward.

      Hi Brian, "Thank you" for the prompt reply. There aren't many video on this (certainly not as clear as the one you made). The other video I found had a guy take off the arm assembly to replace this set of hoses! And an initial quote from a local mechanic said the same thing about (taking apart the arm assembly). Maybe he watched that video prior to giving me a quote. Well I appreciate the feedback. And your video really raised my confidence bar to take this on. Thanks Brian.

    Thanks for the excellent video. The dealer told me awhile ago that I need to replace the power steering "RES to RACK" hose. I just kept adding fluid. So now I'm motivated to fix it, after seeing your video, but I'm confused as to what "RES to RACK" hose means, exactly. You showed replacing the reservoir to pump hose. Is there also a reservoir to rack hose? Thanks!

      There is at least one comment below talking about a hose to the rack

    Jeeze, my mitts would be so scarred up in those tight spaces.
    Does this routinely fail on the Mini?

    • @HowtoAutomotive

      Rob's Wrenches yes it fails all the time. The same hose is use on BMWs with the same problem.

    Hi can you tell me what the full capacity of the fluid is? I want to change mine in my mini, but don’t want to buy 1 liter and find out its not enough. Its quite expensive.

  • @nutz4gunz457

    Those minis are such shit boxes and they have the harshest ride of pretty much any car.
