hotsweetness99 For purely mechanical ignitions it is absolutely true. Only a digital key can stop that, and if they key is already digital you might as well go wireless. More people leave their keys in the car than throw them out of the window. A wireless key can stay secure in your pocket avoiding both problems while being harder to steal. Most car thefts these days are of older cars with mechanical ignitions.
My cousin was robbed at gun point for his Dodge Challenger ... they took his car but he had the key in his pocket ... long story short the car was found 3 days later states away still running .. they had never turned the car off
Quinten Robinson My brother did that once with his 2014 Nissan Sentra. I nearly fainted, I was so shocked. He said it was ok though, he is a mechanic so I took his word for it. I have a 1998 Ford Ranger and I would never dare fill it up while it's on. Maybe it's the newer cars that can handle that.
On a snowy morning I started my car and proceeded to brush off my car in a hotel parking lot. I then drove 50km away to a ski hill with no notifications of a missing key. Upon arrival I turned off my car then attempted to put it in acc mode but it said the key was missing. My key fell out of my pocket at the hotel in the snow and I was 450km from home. I called the hotel to ask if they could look for the key and they were unable to find it. My mom had to drive all the way out to the hotel and found the key within 5 minutes, then drive to the ski hill where I was just finishing my day of snowboarding. This all happened with my 2013 Mazda 3 a year and a bit after I bought it.
Mazda's keyless entry is pretty bad. Sometimes I have to hold the key in the air for 10 seconds before the car recognizes I have the key, even with a new battery in it. The car is supposed to auto lock when I walk away from it in which it beeps once and locks but sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. The Mazda dealership just tells me they couldn't re create the problem. My Nav is terrible and now that my car is 3-4 years old my nav doesn't even work when i press the nav button nothing happens. Paid $60 for the nav to get fixed in which all they did was update it. (I can do that at home) Worked for a few days and stopped working again.
Nah my Ford warned my cuz coz I went to bed and had the keys and it warned him, then 15min later two scary alarm sounds blasted through the speaker simultaneously. One sound sounded like an American alert and the other sounded like some crazy pounding.
What fucking moron throws a key fob out of a moving car anyway......and what happens if we throw you out of a car at 100 mph to see what happens.....lets try that instead!!!!
Yes, but thats been around since adam was a boy, like electric windows and windscreen wipers. Im talking all the computerised shit in the last 10 years.
Its called the new era of lazy. When I call people that uses keyless fobs lazy slobs they are angered. How hard is it to pull your keys from your pocket and start the car?
Luke Wilmoth I think you're hitting the nail on the head. Nobody would willfully throw a key fob out of the window while driving. The feature is designed to check if the key is still in the car when you're driving away from a standstill and, as the video proved, it works fine for that. Why is it designed like this? Because the person who has the key can only leave the car when it's not running... it happened to me a couple of times: when I'm driving my wife's car, sometimes she is sitting in the passenger seat with the keys in her purse. She left the car taking the keys with her and the car told me right away (as soon as she closed the door), so I could catch the mistake in time.
Idk, if you get forced out of your car and the key fob is in your pocket. it still doesn't matter because they can still drive off. when they try to start the car again they wont be able to.
Bananafone I don't think that this feature was designed to prevent carjacking... besides, what do you think that the criminals would do when they find out that they cannot drive away, if that was the case? They would come after you...!
Well duh, but sometimes people get in relationships with crazy people and they can do something stupid like that, OR a child, or if they crash and it goes flying out the car. There goes that...
I put mine in my Faraday bag once while driving without thinking about it and then panicked for a moment when it didn't read my key until I saw the bag sitting next to me. So I guess you don't have to throw them out the window, there are other stupid things you can do.
I have the exact same car and really appreciated watching these videos. Thank you for doing them and I'm looking forward to seeing more. By the way, what do you think of the car, I absolutely love mine. I also would like to add that the keyless key fob is the best thing ever. Those that are complaining have never had the opportunity to use one.
youngmauro12 Just like the James Bond car with the sticker "this car is protected by anti-theft devices" when they tried to break the window the entire car blew up. Wish I could remember that movie's title.
I love the feature how the keys don't have to be connected to the car however I also feel like it would be a good thing if the makers can put a chip for the fob because if you do suddenly lose it or your child throws it and you lost it then it would be a problem and if you can track the location where your key could be that would be a fantastic feature
MAN!!!! This is the 3rd video of you i am watching about random questions I asked myself and didnt try out. And you are a very sympathic youtuber - but the best? u use joakim karud songs 8) keep on rockin :)
What's annoying is that they're not giving you an alternative to these Smart keys with the modern cars. It's good that you are taking the time to show us these scenarios because the manufacturers certainly aren't making it clear what happens.
Why would they? If you break or lost the key they can just charge you an expensive and annoying process to give you a new key. Literally the dealership will need to send your VIN id and computer onboard the details to the manufacturer and they will have to reprogram a new fob.
@Aoru I was thinking more about safety than cost. These cars cut out to save fuel what happens if you're on a hill and you've lost your key? To me that's a dangerous situation especially if there are car behind you... at this point I'm not worried about the cost of a new fob.
The time it takes for a car engine equipped with auto start-stop to turn on again is way less than 1 second. It would probably have a hill hold feature for that split second time. In a hybrid though, you have the immediate power from the electric motor(s).
I love your channel. Lots of great videos, especially Fords. Your reviews are great, on point, and up in front. You get right to the chase and the data.
+AutoVlog if somehow the battery becomes dead can we push start the car with smartkey or not?? please answer or make a video that would be very helpful
I think this works on all cars, but when I bought my car they told me that battery is only needed for remote controlling the door lock, for starting car it is an RF ID inside key or card or whatever your car uses, that informs car about a key and codes etc. and doesn't need batteries at all.
One thing that I would like to see tested. From my knowledge, a key-less entry/fob works very similar to a garage door opener. All wireless openers have their own different code, when the button is pressed that code is transmitted which the opener itself picks up, verifies the code, then open/closes the door. The fob on AutoVlog's vehicle should work the same way except that the code is constantly being transmitted over a very short range. The car's anti-theft system is build on being able to pick up the fob's signal in order to use the vehicle. This is perfect for most car thieves, but since that fob's signal is being constantly transmitted, it can be picked up by anyone. I suspect that if you can extract the fob's code, you can ignore most of the car's safety features and allow for the vehicle's theft much more easily. I hope I have given you an idea for a future video AutoVlog, I like your videos. :)
Very informative. Very useful. I really hate these proximity keys. If you lose a key it will cost you $500 for a new one. And you will probably have to wait a few days to get a new one. Meanwhile your car is stranded on the side of a road somewhere unless you pay to have it towed. In the old days you could just pull out a spare key from your wallet. Those keys only cost about $2.00 and you could have them made at any hardware store. Great video. Thanks for doing it.
I must try it in my Suzuki. After seeing your last video I've tried pushing StartStop button while driving and nothing happens even below 10kpmh about what I was pleasantly surprised! Thanks for those videos man :)
In my car doors auto lock in about 200 meters drive ,even if you drive on parking lot 5 km\h. So most cars after 2000\2005 will auto lock. You cant open while driving from outside ,funny thing that even when passenger goes out and tries to open other door they wont open ,only if driver opens door car unlocks or you unlock with button...
My 16 Mazda 3 chimes when the key leaves the car and door is closed. As long as I don't turn car off, it will keep driving just like yours. I always thought the car would turn off.
that's better than it shutting off the instant you open the door 300 miles from your key. lol. Just another reason to not buy a Ford i guess. my 06 mazda is old school--uses a physical key
more reasons I still prefer my 1968 Chevy Impala... still can't match modern cars in gas but it will always work. And if the key goes missing, my carburetor tuning screwdriver in the glovebox makes a great spare key.
actually how they have been stealing them is even cooler. One method was basically an amplifier for the signal coming from the car, now your car detected the key from your house. thief just gets in and pushes the start button.
Ewie M, this is not the case (at least not with the Fusion; I can't speak for other vehicles). As soon as either the driver's door or the front-seat passenger's door is opened after shutting down the engine, the car completely powers down (the equivalent of removing the key from a traditional ignition). The only way to start it again in this case is with the fob inside the vehicle. In other words, there is no grace period within which the car can be restarted without the fob if a door has been opened. The dude in this video didn't open his door after shutting down the engine, and hence had the option to restart the engine without the fob inside the car.
A screwdriver works if the car has a standard key. A computerized starting system that requires a key fob is another matter. You can't just pry that button off and touch two wires to start the car.
I think they mean steal the car without turning the car off, like someone steals your car at a stoplight or something but you still have the key in your pocket, but what good does that do if the robber can get as far as he wants without turning of the car
i ask the dealer the same question and was told it does that because it would be the same as if the battery died in the fob while you were driving. also if the battery dies you can actually press the start button with the dead fob and it will start ( at least on a 2016 mazda it does). really enjoy your videos by the way. thanks
Europe forever! In the C-Max over here (non hybrid, because fuck yeah Europe), as soon as the key leaves the car, it beeps and says the key isn't in the car. Instantly.
Thank you for another great video. I called you "King of 3B (Brave Bold & Ball)". Some of your videos are definitely "Don't Do This At Home". Really appreicated your Great Effort!
why read a manual just watch this guy, really love the put the car in park while doing 50mph!! I wonder what would happen if you threw your key out the window and drove the vehicle off a cliff, can u start it when u roll to the bottom or does the 15 20 seconds start from the top,do the airbags work without the key?
He should have just tossed the fob out the passenger window and had some kite sting anchored to that grill and the other end tied to the fob. Then when he needed to find the fob, he would just go to the grill, pick up the string and reel the fob in like a fish.
First sorry for all those reactions below making a joke of your subject. I have a Jeep Renegade with key less entry, if key not in the car it warns. If engine running, it warns, but you can drive the car as far as you want. I would prefer if key not in the car it stops. Sometimes battery of the key is depleted, and you need to open the car door with hidden key in the fob. Starting engine is pushing the fob to the start button. I have no idea how it knows the key is in the car with no signal from the key. BUT generally I love this keyless entry. I saw the latest version on a Jeep Avenger, you walk to the car and mirrors flip open and you can enter the car, start it, of course with seat belt on, and when you stop step out, mirrors automatic flip in and doors lock. I love it, although I know car thieves can intercept the key (fob) signal and easily steel your car. BUT with all the spy technology the thieves are easily tracked. Yes the car spies on you all the time.
WE HAVE A BIG QUESTION! Many of these new cars have sensors that protect against front-end collisions if you get to close to something. For example (You just get done strapping your child into the car seat, as you turn around you notice a black van pull behind your car. you see a man walking towards you. You panic and get into your car and slam the door shut and lock the doors! You start the car but the van is behind you and the only thing in front of you is a wooden fence. You throw that bitch into drive and floor it into the fence to get away) Would the car stop or keep going? -Subaru Eye Sight for example-
jim jones minecraftadventur102 Let's get back to the question. There's an open field behind the fence. You can't push the truck because not only does the 4 cylinder not have enough power but would the car even let you get close enough to push?
You can always turn the system off. Also it will only detect the thing in front of you so after you pass it it won't react to it anymore. If it is Honda sensing and it is a person in front of you though it won't do anything because Honda Sensing is one of the only in not the only crash avoidance system that doesn't understand pedestrians in America.
Okay this may be true for the car you are driving, but my friend has a Hyundai and she was with her husband (who was driving) and she had the key in her purse. He dropped her off at the Mall doors and as he started driving away, the car stopped/turned off because he didn't have the key.
That's a fucking hazard to the traffic though, wtf? Imagine if you pull out of a parking space out on the road and your car shuts off... Shuting the car off is an even more terrible idea, an indication that the key is missing would be the thing.
Yes, exactly. What happens if you have the RFID key, but the car refuses to recognize it, or interference prevents the RFID key code from being read? How do you override the security system with manual access? There's millions of these wireless, expensive RFID keys out there, and most of them are vulnerable to conditions that can cause temporary or permanent failure, in addition to stranding the occupants because the car won't start.
Bents Huang thats what dealerships want isnt it, your money? why do they enclose engines and everything now? because they're the only ones capable of working on it? no, they just want you to think that way and take your cash
A couple of times I've had my car say to me something along the lines of "cannot communicate with key fob" while driving, despite it being sat there in the cupholder. Waving it in front of the speedometer seems to be enough to shut it up. I'd like to think that if it failed to reach the fob, then it would eventually do a safe and graceful shutdown (e.g. virtually disconnecting the link between the gas pedal and the engine, so that you still keep steering servo assist as you slow down to zero and have to park it). Never felt the urge to test it though. But if someone jumps into my running car while the key is in my pocket, I want them to not get very far.
Honestly I have always been like wtf was so bad about normal keys to start with? I like real keys and they have a place in the car not just sitting on the side or the cup holder.
well with push button start you don't have to grab your keys from your pocket, just leave them in there and press the start button so that's one plus. another thing is some people with heavy keychains tear up their ignition with the key in and that weight bouncing around. so thats another thing that can't happen with push button start
Michael B I disagree with you on that one. If you're like most people, you'll get rid of your car way before you even have to worry about wear and tear on the key ignition. I would think a push-button start would suffer more wear because of the fact that we push it with our dirty grimy fingers. I've seen some cars (not push-button start cars) with the surface of some of the buttons rubbed off and unreadable, for example the cruise control.
My car is 14 years old with 246k miles and the original key and ignition work perfectly fine so I wouldn't worry too much about wear and tear. When I used to work in a garage years ago nine times out of ten when a vehicle had an ignition key problem it was becuase the car key was on a ring with a ton of other keys and fobs hanging off it. All that weight dangling and bouncing around will soon mess up the barrel.
CrimpyGummybear I have one with pontoons also, got a great deal on it,spare battery, spare motor, extra parts, $125. I couldnt believe it. I love the Apprentice plane, best one out there. If you can find them used, snap them up.
Please don't. Even a five years old with a brain understand what MUST happen in any of these "what happend if" videos. For instance, if the car stop just because the digital key fell off the car it would be irresponsible and hands down moronic. You could be in a snowy mountain. All electronic access control must function as a flip flop, thus needs active control for both on and off switching.
You can too easily copy the signal or hack the communication otherwise without even leaving behind traces. With a physical key you first have to grab that one.
Thanks for the info. I know now that I don';t want one.. Seriously, thanks for the info, I drove a car with this ignition once when I was getting my truck serviced . I kept the key in my shirt pocket because I didn't know the range. I just though of one good thing, no keyed cars, this module shouldn't scratch the door to much.
Well that sucks. I always thought that if you were to get car jacked and still had the key on you, the car would shut off if you ran out of the proximity system range.
Why don't car makers design it so you can set up a code to unlock and start the car if you don't' have a key? Oh wait, I know, because they bastards want to charge you $400-1100 for a new one when you loose it, that's why.
SkyEarthOcean most older American cars (cadillac) used to have a number key pad on the drivers side door you put a code in to unlock as back then door lock/trunk and gas cap keys were separate to the ignition key
SkyEarthOcean it is easily done on the aftermarket scene, most insurance companys would run a mile as it would be considered HIGH risk, and its not the auto makers who are completely to blaim (i will admit they could do things better) governments around the world asia, north america, europe, set many different rules and regulations which can change on a virually daily basis and the auto makers have to devise a system that meets the requirements set by the government,
This is a normal feature on most modern Fords. My 2015 Fusion has it built in the door so you don't notice it till you touch the side of the door with a finger and the numbers light up. Then put in code and it unlocks vehicle. Was a standard feature on my Ford i didn't have to pay extra for...
and what if the you throw it out whe. your stopped like u did. but u keep on driving? does the car shut off or can u drive it whit that no key warning on untill yoy reach your destionation. for example you forgot to turn the ignition off an dleft your car but the keys are in your pocket. somebody hopped in and started riding. how far can they go?
I've left my house while the car was running. Got to my destination...turned my civic si off and then...Fuck I forgot my keys lol. you shouldn't be able to drive away from it in park, even in a 6 speed if the fob isn't in the car. They need to come up with a system for this. My 6 speed does the same thing. But I don't get 15-20 seconds...I get nothing. When my car is off...it's off haha. I had to call my sister to go to my house to get my fob. So what I did was put my other fob in a location that only I and my older sister know of incase I ever drive off without my fob again like a dummy haha
GamesterX69 Dude that's so weird that you just said that. Cause I have driven or was in a car that you could actually put the fob in Luke a fob hole instead of a key hole..maybe was a Chrysler? But yea it's a good idea. If I start my car and have my keys in my jacket, get out and shit the door my Si beeps like 8 times rapidly. Say I accidently put them down inside and got back into my car and shut the door...it rapid beeps again 8 times BUT you can drive off still hahaha. That should be able to happen. as soon as I push the clutch in the car should stall and a notice pops up saying "key fob required for drive" or some shit. Alot of dummies leave there cars running at gas stations also thinking the csr won't drive away without the key. No one should ever leave there car running. I haven't ever ever did this cause I watched someone's car get stolen and myself and and the owner hot pursuit the their for 15 minutes andndrounf rhode island until police caught up haha. guy ended up stopping and running.
GamesterX69 oh haha..dick LOL. my fob has a key too. except u slide a button over and pull on the top and it disconnects from the fob. Only locks the trunk though from inside haha
Older Mercedes are like that, but not keyless entry. You put the key fob into the ignition rather than the actual key that opens the door. On a side note I found out that the actual key is plastic, and can snap easily, since I suppose Mercedes didn't think anyone would actually use it rather than the remote central locking.
greatly informative thanks .... i know a bit about radio and thats what these keys rely on so iv always wondered how secure they are and now i know, thier not!!! also how easy is it to buy hardware to copy fobs? i know the central locking ones are simple enough to copy you can copy the frequency and access code accurately from up to 50 feet away and if your close enough too someone with a contactless bank card theres equipment that reads them too. Big question is will insurance companys keep paying out if theres no sign of forced entry into these cars when they are stolen??? make sure if youv got one of these that when you park up at home make sure the keyless phob is as far away from the car as is safe to be .
I got my car from the carwash and some guy put the key in front of the windshield, along with the whipers and I didn't see it. It fell when I was maneuvering and I went tho the street without the keys. But as soon as they noticed, they called me on the phone.
GIANT ROBOT holly molly! You know some manufacturers developed a technology the car detects in which quadrant the 🔑 is in, so evenif the key is at the passenger's side, or quadrant, the engine won't start. And I'm talking 14 years ago.
Lol my mom dropped me off with the key in my pocket and drove off only to get 30 minutes away and not be able to turn the car on again the Volkswagen passat TDI 2013
Looks like it, but there's physically no way to restart the engine once the stealer shuts down the engine. I believe it is much much harder to hot wire a car that has one of those smart keys. There's a reason manufacturers are completely dropping the traditional key.
Yes. In fact Top Gear already did that once with Richard Hammonds Mustang. He was in the restaurant and Jeremy drove his car off and parked it in the middle of the road without any key.....
They should put a metal tab on the fob that you insert into a slot near the steering wheel. To prevent you driving off without the fob, the ignition should only be enabled when the tab is in the slot and your foot is on the brake. After starting, the tab locks in place so you can't take it out unless the ignition is turned off and the car is in park. Innovation!
It's so much better than a regular key!! I used to have cars with traditional keys, but after I started to use FOB keys, man, I don't want to use anyone else.
1700iDiGuy I don't know i didn't fucking design it. besides I drive a 95 Ford so obviously idk that much about the keys. and dickless sex is called eating her out btw
i have no use for that technology. give me a old school GM steel wedge called a key. give me a mechanical ignition switch and a mechanical cable going to the throttle plate
I used to think that but I couldn't go back to keys now unless I were to lose my job and need to go buy some cheap piece of shit car. Keyless cars are reliable, easy, the risk of someone throwing your key out the window is super low, there are safeties in place to prevent lock outs.... the list goes on! The only thing SOMEWHAT possible is someone could theoretically steal your car if you leave it running. However, because it's keyless, you can leave it running and lock the door. Something that's much harder to do with a key ignition.... yes, you can do it with a spare key, but I can do it with the push of a button on my car door. Who's faster? ;)
@@since1876 it would theoretically be possible to do something like that with the car my parents had before the current one (the car had a remote and 2 keys, the remote could only unlock and lock the doors, and theoretically the car could be left running and then locked with the remote) my parent's current car has the remote integrated into the keys (it uses a physical key, although to reveal the key part of the key a silver button has to be pressed)
Imagine this: key in your pocket, you walk out of your car for a sec (whatever reason) and the car gets stolen. You have the key and the car doesn't care that it is driven by a thief.
ItsYoureBasic. Exactly. Think about it. Chevy wouldn't be anything without ford. AMERICA NEVER HEARD OF THE CAR TILL IT WAS INVENTED. Technically Mercedes built the first moterized car/wagon. But no one in the world built an actual car, like ford did
Wow, this just happened to me. I got off the car, with they key fob on me, while my wife drove away. I just called her so she comes back for the key fob. I'm glad I was able to contact her before she got off the car or opened any doors. Thanks for the video.
If you apply that reasoning to anything else, you'd see absolutely zero innovation, anywhere. IE: We wouldn't have computers because doing math in our heads and on paper isn't "broken". Why would we need telephones or telegraphs? The postal system isn't "broken".
Sean Place there's no way to retain it in the car so you wont lose it. on the standard keys the key is retained in the steering column or the dash if i want a push button start car I'll get a surplus humvee
That's the point. You don't have to take the key out of your pocket/purse/belt clip to unlock and start the car. This means you don't have to worry about leaving your keys in your car, because even if you do, you can still unlock the car. This also means people with heavy key chains do not have to worry about damaging the ignition cylinder or about the key chain scratching the material beneath it when it shakes around.
Thank you for making this video. I wondered what would happen if I were carjacked and someone got me out of my car while I was stopped (at a light, for example). This video answers my question.
What happens if the key throws you out the window while driving?
No driver detected. He is ***ked.
At least the driver won't be in the car when it crashes after the fact.
Bluetailvappy what if it crash into ze driver
RylansTech Only in russia.

Interesting stuff! Thanks for sharing. Nice haircut.
JerryRigEverything Jerry whats up!
JerryRigEverything ZACH ILY
JerryRigEverything ur funny 😂
hi @JerryRigEverything
JerryRigEverything the 7mil volt taser is such bs man. Watch ElectroBOOM about it.
What would happen if you threw yourself out of the car? Would the car say, "No driver detected"?
Only one way to find out!
😂
hahahahah very very very funny
😂
Did you ever make a demo video if so shoot me a link!🤣🤣🤣
I'll always prefer using a solid, metal key in my ignition. Sometimes simpler is smarter.
Mechanical Fix A screwdriver can start your car.
T1Oracle not true.
hotsweetness99 For purely mechanical ignitions it is absolutely true.
Mechanical Fix wait till the car is only started by finger print, they will literally be no way to steal it unless your car jacked
Mechanical Fix amen!
My cousin was robbed at gun point for his Dodge Challenger ... they took his car but he had the key in his pocket ... long story short the car was found 3 days later states away still running .. they had never turned the car off
Wow.. that's crazy !
KINGKJ2REAL yea that is crazy
KINGKJ2REAL What's the gas milage on that thing? Haha unless they fueled up with the car on.
Hold On Caulfield they probably did fill up with it on; I've been seeing a lot of people do that lately. 🙄😒
Quinten Robinson My brother did that once with his 2014 Nissan Sentra. I nearly fainted, I was so shocked. He said it was ok though, he is a mechanic so I took his word for it. I have a 1998 Ford Ranger and I would never dare fill it up while it's on. Maybe it's the newer cars that can handle that.
yeah. i used to be a valet. and sometimes people walked off with their fob
What do u mean?
@@highostface2889 he needs the fob to drive the car.

Wow! Crazy story! Thanks for sharing :)
Malo cool story bro!
Malo
So in other words, the people at the hotel didn't even bother looking. Must have been a Hilton hotel.
be funny if the car start acting like a dog and chase after the Key LOL!
Welcome to ford, with our *BRAND NEW* FETCH(tm) FEATURE!!!
K.I.T.T. I need you buddy!
thats a ford thing... nissan and toyota will start beeping like crazy.
2017 Nissan Murano turns off when the key is like 500 feet out of range. We tested it to see.
Hahahaha
Nah my Ford warned my cuz coz I went to bed and had the keys and it warned him, then 15min later two scary alarm sounds blasted through the speaker simultaneously. One sound sounded like an American alert and the other sounded like some crazy pounding.
But what happens to the key if you throw the car out?
Joe Oldendick aaahhh! That my friend is the true question🤔

What fucking moron throws a key fob out of a moving car anyway......and what happens if we throw you out of a car at 100 mph to see what happens.....lets try that instead!!!!
u need a snickers..... you are cranky when get hungry
This is why i had my key implanted within body.
envelope91 Lmao
Through where dough ?
what do you when battery needs changing , swallow it?
What about when u get a new car???
You could've learnt to swallow keys like Tom from Tom & Jerry.
Next video: What happens if you crash your car while driving? (Don't try this at home)
911mporsche you cant drive a car at home?
+chiken well, if you're ok with crashing, you CAN drive it at home. But you'd have to crash first
What happens if you crash your car into your home? (Don't try this at home)
(at least not your own home)
Sergio Miramontes no
What happens if you throw a 1000 degree knife out the window while driving?
I think the knife will drop on the ground
JoeW_P896 it would destroy the fabric of society
It will go straight down into earths core and reach 125,000°
the interior of the car will turn into a vacuum chamber
You end up on Mr.Gears video
First thing I noticed was holy shit how many cameras do you have? Nice video
Thanks :) I got a few :)
17?
I hate new cars with all their useless "smarts"
Especially electric hatches. Opening it up yourself is so mich faster, do you really need to make a simple task even more simple?
drongo jonkins keyless entry is a super awesome feature
Yes, but thats been around since adam was a boy, like electric windows and windscreen wipers. Im talking all the computerised shit in the last 10 years.
My 2003 Mustang is as dumb as a box of rocks and I'm perfectly happy with that.
Its called the new era of lazy. When I call people that uses keyless fobs lazy slobs they are angered. How hard is it to pull your keys from your pocket and start the car?
Hopefully no one throws their fucking keys out the window while they are driving
1:37 oh i love the slow motion of the key throwing out
It is impossible to design anything that is foolproof because fools are so ingenious. -Murphy's Law
Ange1walk amazing.
treu verry verry treu the (smartest) people are the fools
we can only be smart for so many things.... before stupid/ignorance takes over.
Murphy's Law states that if something can go wrong, it will.
Something that prevents this has already been invented. It's called a metal key.
My car don't even tell how much fuel left forget this
Anuj Borkhataria what car?
Anuj Borkhataria sucks to be you to have a car like that
r3conwoo probably a Honda, they have trouble with gauges
r3conwoo actually ive seen multiple fucked fuel guages from various of my friends chevys
The needle literally just jumps around vigorously
The fuel gauge goes back and forth on my '88 Volvo 740, heh
I have the exact same car and really appreciated watching these videos. Thank you for doing them and I'm looking forward to seeing more. By the way, what do you think of the car, I absolutely love mine. I also would like to add that the keyless key fob is the best thing ever. Those that are complaining have never had the opportunity to use one.
You're wrong. Key fobs suck.
Plot twist : he never found his key
victor anaya also car self-destructs after 10 min. He's dead
youngmauro12 Just like the James Bond car with the sticker "this car is protected by anti-theft devices" when they tried to break the window the entire car blew up. Wish I could remember that movie's title.
Jim Adams Yes I remember that one. It was James Bond 1 through every James Bond ever... lol. No but seriously I think it was Tomorrow Never Dies
Lol I was expecting someone to have picked it up and ran off with it, when he said he knew where it was and left the car to get it.
Some say his car is still turned on to this day XD
I love the feature how the keys don't have to be connected to the car however I also feel like it would be a good thing if the makers can put a chip for the fob because if you do suddenly lose it or your child throws it and you lost it then it would be a problem and if you can track the location where your key could be that would be a fantastic feature
MAN!!!!
This is the 3rd video of you i am watching about random questions I asked myself and didnt try out.
And you are a very sympathic youtuber - but the best? u use joakim karud songs 8)
keep on rockin :)
Thank you ! Joakim Karud makes great music and he's Swedish like me :)
I've always wondered how much fuel is 'saved' by cutting off the system while at a red light, like 3 cents' worth in a 10 mile journey?
The time it takes for a car engine equipped with auto start-stop to turn on again is way less than 1 second. It would probably have a hill hold feature for that split second time. In a hybrid though, you have the immediate power from the electric motor(s).
About 1/3 of a gallon an hour of idling. Saves a bunch of gas in a traffic jam.
I love your channel. Lots of great videos, especially Fords. Your reviews are great, on point, and up in front. You get right to the chase and the data.
Thanks, glad you like them :)
AutoVlog Your welcome! And those little rants you blurt out the bad words make me laugh a little... especially with the party horn... haha
idea: what happens if u throw out ur brain while driving?
The real concern is, what happens if you throw your weed out the window while driving?
hahaha
I must try it in my Suzuki. After seeing your last video I've tried pushing StartStop button while driving and nothing happens even below 10kpmh about what I was pleasantly surprised! Thanks for those videos man :)
What happens when you try open the door at the outside when you driving???
Dieded Channel not safe
Depends, you can change the settings so if that car goes over 15mph the door auto lock from the outside.
the door opens and a alarm beeps telling you someone left the door open
In my car doors auto lock in about 200 meters drive ,even if you drive on parking lot 5 km\h. So most cars after 2000\2005 will auto lock. You cant open while driving from outside ,funny thing that even when passenger goes out and tries to open other door they wont open ,only if driver opens door car unlocks or you unlock with button...
zCATAHAz I wish I had that in my car... 2017 Subaru wrx STI... you would think it atleast had that since it's a 2017 model...
My 16 Mazda 3 chimes when the key leaves the car and door is closed. As long as I don't turn car off, it will keep driving just like yours. I always thought the car would turn off.
The exact same thing happened with my mate's 2012 Mazda 6!
that's better than it shutting off the instant you open the door 300 miles from your key. lol. Just another reason to not buy a Ford i guess. my 06 mazda is old school--uses a physical key
thank you for all these what if videos. All of us odd, very curious people appreciate it
more reasons I still prefer my 1968 Chevy Impala... still can't match modern cars in gas but it will always work. And if the key goes missing, my carburetor tuning screwdriver in the glovebox makes a great spare key.
I had a small 4WD that could be cranked
A thief would only need to junp in and start the car with 10-15 seconds. Looks like new cars are Gone in Fifteen Seconds instead of Sixty.
actually how they have been stealing them is even cooler. One method was basically an amplifier for the signal coming from the car, now your car detected the key from your house. thief just gets in and pushes the start button.
Ewie M and that's why I have a garage. It doesn't really solve the problem though since none of the vehicles in it have push button start.
Ewie M A screwdriver only takes 2 seconds.
A screwdriver works if the car has a standard key. A computerized starting system that requires a key fob is another matter. You can't just pry that button off and touch two wires to start the car.
You are my favorite RUclipsr by far, not because you're funny, because you are a car guy like me
hahahahha, if a squirrel grabbed it and ran off you would be screwed
LOL, indeed I would've been :)
So basically someone can steal it and get as far as they need before putting it in park 😹
no. The Key has to be inside the car for the car to start.
Daniel Camp Did you even read it?
PumaBitez I'm actually dead
PumaBitez For the key to not be detected when in the car, it has to be driving. You cant fucking steal aonething from a moving car, moron...
Instantly.
It does that here as well if the vehicle is stationary.. if it's in motion like in the video it does not say anything until you have stopped it :)
AutoVlog I only tested it rolling at 10 km/h, but it beeped instantly. I'm not gonna throw the key out the window any faster than that :D
10 Km/h? Were you walking the car? That shouldn't even be on the speedometer.
Michael Thompson Sorry I guess. Feel free to do it yourself faster.
I'm just saying, the speedometer should start at like 60 Km/h.
Dude your subs are jumping up fast. You were around 15,000 when i sub'd, 20,000 the last video and now almost 40,000. Congratulations man!
Thank you !
Thank you for another great video. I called you "King of 3B (Brave Bold & Ball)". Some of your videos are definitely "Don't Do This At Home". Really appreicated your Great Effort!
they should have emergengy restart codes
i agree .
I'm going to patent this ! thanks !!!!!
+buru kenge
It already exists
JesusChristNeverLived How the...? I see you everywhere! lol
He must be very religious lol
5-minute video in one sentence 'Throwing your key out your car while driving does fucking nothing until you try to start the car again.'
why read a manual just watch this guy, really love the put the car in park while doing 50mph!! I wonder what would happen if you threw your key out the window and drove the vehicle off a cliff, can u start it when u roll to the bottom or does the 15 20 seconds start from the top,do the airbags work without the key?
how long did it take u to find the key lol
Lol.. longer then I had planned ;)
figured lol
He should have just tossed the fob out the passenger window and had some kite sting anchored to that grill and the other end tied to the fob. Then when he needed to find the fob, he would just go to the grill, pick up the string and reel the fob in like a fish.
I assumed he just had a gopro on a tripod sitting there.
you are really doing great videos keep it up!
Thank you !
AutoVlog 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
-Subaru Eye Sight for example-
jim jones not enough power in this car
jim jones minecraftadventur102 Let's get back to the question. There's an open field behind the fence. You can't push the truck because not only does the 4 cylinder not have enough power but would the car even let you get close enough to push?
steve b So true!
Cameras j
That's a fucking hazard to the traffic though, wtf? Imagine if you pull out of a parking space out on the road and your car shuts off... Shuting the car off is an even more terrible idea, an indication that the key is missing would be the thing.
Thanks for that info. I'm planning on buying a Kia and since those are pretty much the same as Hyundai, that gives me some peace of mind.
That's a different situation, all cars will either shut off or not let you shift from park if no key is detected before you set off.
I didnt say parking lot, I said a parking spot at the side of the road... learn to read please? And why are you so hostile? Sure I'm an idiot.
His cars just sit in the driveway and just shake and tell of the terrors they have been thru
i still prefer the good old keys
me to, I don't know why companies switched. Key Fobs can be easily tapped and stolen and make it worse
brent Thompson and in case you loose it the amount of hassle you have to go thru for a replacement
all these SMART features seem to look good and fancy until things start to stop working, then it will turn into a money pit.
Bents Huang they only work well, when they're working well
This is not a general problem. I experienced a car (Peugeot 508) warning the driver when the key disappears. So it's a Ford problem.
The Fiat Freemont/Dodge Journey also warns the driver instantly when the key is out of the car.
I did not realize that I was not subscribed to the channel. Got that problem remedied. Love the new modifications on the Ford F150. Take care.
good if you get robbed, you keep ur key and run, the guy wont be able to do much after stop it
well..except for tear apart you entire car lol
Better idea for future episode: What happens when I drive car off of a cliff?
HeeroYuy911 also real keys cause mechanical degradation over time, electronic push buttons are less prone to wear and tear
RedFlaggWaving you're calling buttons becoming unreadable wear and tear? It is I guess but not to the effect of mechanical degradation
This is the most useless feature in modern cars
a5m no it isn't. Just always keep the key in your pocket and you're always good
Po Russki Or if you lose your key and drive away you have to keep the car running or else you're stranded. Terrible idea.
Mate its just more excuses for laziness.
And if you lose a traditional car key you would be in the same situation. Keys huh? Terrible idea.
SomeOriginalThing Keys are easier and cheaper to replace. Keyless fobs with RFID tags and computer controls are expensive up to $1000.
I just bought a new 2017 Honda and it's the first time I have a car with no key.....I didn't know this information, thanks man.
I have no use for those fobs and push button ignitions.
+scott firman except when you need to start your car using it
scott firman unless you want to go somewhere
Hes saying that he doesn't have or want a keyless ignition. Not that he doesnt need a fob. He has a keyed ignition.
+scott firman I have the same RC plane that's in your profile picture
CrimpyGummybear I have one with pontoons also, got a great deal on it,spare battery, spare motor, extra parts, $125. I couldnt believe it. I love the Apprentice plane, best one out there. If you can find them used, snap them up.
Please do videos "What happens if" because it is originaly and cool. I subscribed you! :)
Thanks, will do !
AutoVlog :)
I like that you have a Ford Fusion...I have the same car. I find your videos both informative and entertaining.
Your video is helpful. Keep up the good work!
Thanks ! Glad you like it :)
IkanHeisenberg MN > if you like this, watch paint drying!!!
Unnecessary technology
rum and coke32 this keyless key fob needs to be shoved up someones rearend for coming up with the stupid ideal!
Would it be detected in there? Maybe AutoVlog should try.
Ultrajuiced lol It's my honesty opinion
***** What do you think is so useful about such keys? I think the risks exceed the advantages here.
I've seen those! Such a good idea! I would love to have something like that when I went to the beach so I wouldn't have to worry about carrying keys.
SkyEarthOcean it is easily done on the aftermarket scene,
most insurance companys would run a mile as it would be considered HIGH risk,
and its not the auto makers who are completely to blaim (i will admit they could do things better)
governments around the world asia, north america, europe, set many different rules and regulations which can change on a virually daily basis and the auto makers have to devise a system that meets the requirements set by the government,
You're saying the government banns code entry for a vehicle? That would surprise me. Insurance companies see it is a liability for theft?
This is a normal feature on most modern Fords. My 2015 Fusion has it built in the door so you don't notice it till you touch the side of the door with a finger and the numbers light up. Then put in code and it unlocks vehicle. Was a standard feature on my Ford i didn't have to pay extra for...
and what if the you throw it out whe. your stopped like u did. but u keep on driving? does the car shut off or can u drive it whit that no key warning on untill yoy reach your destionation. for example you forgot to turn the ignition off an dleft your car but the keys are in your pocket. somebody hopped in and started riding. how far can they go?
if you had an auto-start/stop vehicle and lost the key, would the car start if you lost it during the stopped period?
Good question.. I don't know
NO
I've left my house while the car was running.
On a side note I found out that the actual key is plastic, and can snap easily, since I suppose Mercedes didn't think anyone would actually use it rather than the remote central locking.
steve b yah that's a great idea. No one will steal your car
DougE I have an Infiniti that tells me if I have no key. It must be brand specific
I found out the hard way but if I did not this would have been really helpful. Thank you, very cool video.
I did exactly the same but couldn't find the keys after I threw it out the window😣
Jatt Larkar you are fucking dumb
3:22 I legit thought someone was robbing his car hahahahha
greatly informative thanks .... i know a bit about radio and thats what these keys rely on so iv always wondered how secure they are and now i know, thier not!!! also how easy is it to buy hardware to copy fobs? i know the central locking ones are simple enough to copy you can copy the frequency and access code accurately from up to 50 feet away and if your close enough too someone with a contactless bank card theres equipment that reads them too. Big question is will insurance companys keep paying out if theres no sign of forced entry into these cars when they are stolen??? make sure if youv got one of these that when you park up at home make sure the keyless phob is as far away from the car as is safe to be .
I once drive 2 hours away from my house without my key, then when we stopped and turned off the car to get gas, I realized I was fucked
LOL, I almost did the same!
How did you start the car in the first place though ?
I got my car from the carwash and some guy put the key in front of the windshield, along with the whipers and I didn't see it. It fell when I was maneuvering and I went tho the street without the keys. But as soon as they noticed, they called me on the phone.
GIANT ROBOT holly molly! You know some manufacturers developed a technology the car detects in which quadrant the 🔑 is in, so evenif the key is at the passenger's side, or quadrant, the engine won't start. And I'm talking 14 years ago.
I would have tied a ribbon to it to make sure i wouldnt lose it
Thanks. I was just wondering what would happen if the battery died while driving. This answers the question.
Lol my mom dropped me off with the key in my pocket and drove off only to get 30 minutes away and not be able to turn the car on again the Volkswagen passat TDI 2013
does that mean you can steel a car while for example fueling up, cause many don't lock their car while fueling up and you can get in and drive off?
Looks like it, but there's physically no way to restart the engine once the stealer shuts down the engine. I believe it is much much harder to hot wire a car that has one of those smart keys. There's a reason manufacturers are completely dropping the traditional key.
Yes. In fact Top Gear already did that once with Richard Hammonds Mustang. He was in the restaurant and Jeremy drove his car off and parked it in the middle of the road without any key.....
Bagool if the key is in the pocket of the guy fueling up it might be close enough?
Aoru that was a challenger
Niels Frederik von Tabouillot Read what I said again, it'll anwser your question.
Innovation!
What's most likely to happen is you drop someone off at the airport and drive off only to discover they had the key.
You better drive to where the 2nd key is before you turn the engine off ;)
How is this more convenient then a mechanical key.
you dont have to dig through your pockets or purse to go. just a button
It's not. And if you're too lazy to even carry a key, you shouldn't have a car in the first place.
SlyFox Because manufacturers can save money and ppl love a new fad cause they are to stupid to know any better.
Very good .. I have f150 with fob. Made me more aware where my fob is at all times..
i have no use for that technology. give me a old school GM steel wedge called a key. give me a mechanical ignition switch and a mechanical cable going to the throttle plate
Who's faster? ;)
@@since1876 it would theoretically be possible to do something like that with the car my parents had before the current one (the car had a remote and 2 keys, the remote could only unlock and lock the doors, and theoretically the car could be left running and then locked with the remote)
my parent's current car has the remote integrated into the keys (it uses a physical key, although to reveal the key part of the key a silver button has to be pressed)
If someone uses a remote starter to start the car while you are already in it, can you then drive off with it?
No, not if they started the car from a distance..
Depending on the remote starter, the engine will stop when the door is opened or when the break is pressed.
brake*
Kenneth White your one of those people....
+drink15 You're*
Imagine this: key in your pocket, you walk out of your car for a sec (whatever reason) and the car gets stolen. You have the key and the car doesn't care that it is driven by a thief.
simple, it's a Ford. both my vehicle bark the minute it leaves.
ISLANDTECH PTX my Hondas proximity key makes this ford look like a joke
agreed, mine literally kills the engine after 2 min. this is straight up stupid as an antitheft device.
ISLANDTECH PTX agreed
ISLANDTECH PTX. But if yours is a Chevy, there's is no starting the car. It's already broken
ItsYoureBasic. Exactly. Think about it. Chevy wouldn't be anything without ford. AMERICA NEVER HEARD OF THE CAR TILL IT WAS INVENTED. Technically Mercedes built the first moterized car/wagon. But no one in the world built an actual car, like ford did
this is why i like having an old fashioned key lol.
The first video I ever saw on this channel.. classic
Yes I'm first how u doing maybe since I'm early maybe he will respond back ???
What up Angel !
AutoVlog omggggg hiiihhiihi omggggggggg
Better way to try it yourself: wrap it in aluminiumfoil, and your car won't detect the key.
Wow, this just happened to me. I got off the car, with they key fob on me, while my wife drove away. I just called her so she comes back for the key fob. I'm glad I was able to contact her before she got off the car or opened any doors. Thanks for the video.
f that I'll take a mechanical key operated vehicle, if it ain't broke don't fix It.
If you apply that reasoning to anything else, you'd see absolutely zero innovation, anywhere. IE: We wouldn't have computers because doing math in our heads and on paper isn't "broken". Why would we need telephones or telegraphs? The postal system isn't "broken".
Sean Place nothing innovating with a keyless car except problems like this
Problems like what? Throwing a key out of the window? That's hardly even a problem at all.
Imagine if someone stole his key while he was driving without it
Thank you for making this video. I wondered what would happen if I were carjacked and someone got me out of my car while I was stopped (at a light, for example). This video answers my question.
cool experiment
Thanks :)
This is what makes me fear Keyless cars xD
Great work , left mine on top of my car , didn't realize till I got to my destination
Friends of mine forgot the key on a shelf in his garage. He made It to the gas Station but then couldnt restart It.
