    Picked up a Monta Triumph in person while driving thru St Louis last summer (Monta Hq is located there).
    Got to see and handle the entire line up and they are all excellent watches. Fit and finish is outstanding. The bracelet is seriously better than other more expensive brands in my collection. Added bonus, their movements are regulated to +/- 5spd. Mine is running 2 spd. Monta isn’t cheap, but compares favorably to watches at higher price points.

    It looks well made, and the modest size and lack of bezel might make it a more versatile travel piece.
    If it was an hour jump movement, I'd probably buy it.
    But for now, I think I'd stay waiting for a ETA C07.661 caliber based GMT watch that isn't 44mm like the Mido Ocean Star GMT...

    I struggle with the idea of paying more than £1000 for a watch with no history. That’s not to say it’s not a great watch or good value , but at that price £1500 your in Longines territory. So for me , shallow as I am I need pedigree for that expense which I think is why many micros try to be less expensive.

    • @MrJamesDuffy
      @MrJamesDuffy 2 года назад

      A lot of watchmakers do this and I while I do not find it explicitly deceptive, it is intentionally ambiguous and I have a problem with ambiguity when it comes to references. Glycine does this (I know, Re: Invicta) with their movement nomenclature without adding a suffice or sub-reference number to indicate a variant. Junghans does use sub-reference numbers for "their" calibers, however, I do not like how fundamentally different movements share the same base caliber name-J880.1 and J880.2 are based on the Valjoux 775x while the J880.3 and J880.4 are based on the ETA 2892 with a Dubois Depraz chronograph module. If the architecture is different, it should get a different reference so I guess I am giving Monta a pass here if they tacked on an alphanumeric suffix to each movement variant.

    • @juniorgallo8786
      @juniorgallo8786 2 года назад +2

      @@MrJamesDuffy Well, giving nicknames, different suffixes, to movements that are not in-house should be a curbed and condemned commercial practice. A Hamilton H10 should not be called H10 but only ETA C07.611, simply because it is, in fact, an ETA C07.611.

    • @MrJamesDuffy
      @MrJamesDuffy 2 года назад

      @@juniorgallo8786 Sure, in an ideal world where we can set reasonable standards that all companies should follow, that would be great. However, I think brands DO have the right to rename the movements they use for their own cataloging purposes. I think it only becomes problematic when they are intentionally ambiguous about a caliber's base movement in their sales and marketing message. I think there CAN be some middle ground where naming schemes are at least consistent within a company or across companies using the same base movement. Then again, I am just a guy who buys watches and have no influence on what any big brand decides to do, nor should I.

    I like the overall shape of the watch, the bezel, the lug. I have never seen a three link bracelet has fully articulated links like this, good job! However, there are several serious flaws in design and build. The head of the GMT hand looks too wide (so is the hour hand), and why there is a elevation? It might be too low to touch the indices, but it looks like the little yard work shovel. The edge on second hand and hour hand is not at the middle. The font on the dial looks very sloppy. The gap between the 1 and 5 is much wider than the gap between 5 and 0. And don't understand why show these odd numbers on the slope of the dial. Finally, the logo looks weird. All these careless details shout loud a micro brand.
