    why don't scarifiers have a box to catch the grass? And how do you normally pick up the grass? If i scarify my lawn with a rake it's nearly impossible to pick the grass up!

    • @LHLgardenservices

      First of all most scarifiers do have a box but they fill too quick and become a nuisance. Secondly its not grass you are collecting its moss and thatch

    Dear Sir, it's an excellent video. Could you please guide me further that what month of the year you recommend to do scraifing, aeration, overseeding. Could you also please recommend which seed, what fertiliser and what top soil do you use. Best regards

  • @TexasRose50
    @TexasRose50 5 лет назад +1

    Ok, have to ask a question since I'm not familiar with scarfing. What does it do to the yard? Take the grass to the soil line? Then you re-seed, and then top it off with washed sand? So, basically you are starting from scratch with the lawn? Does the old, but good grass come back up? What about the weeds? Or do you put something down to kill the weeds? Sorry, I'm just one if those who, when I see something new, I like to know the details. Thanks again for all your information on lawn and garden care. 👍🏻

    • @LHLgardenservices
      @LHLgardenservices  5 лет назад +1

      Basically you are removing anything that isn't grass .( It's like brushing your hair) You apply weedkiller first if you have weeds and the grass will grow again but the seed just helps it get thicker quicker 👍

    • @loslewis950
      @loslewis950 5 лет назад

      @@lauchlancousens3714 According to the Institute of Food and Agriculture at the University of Florida, top dressing home lawns with sand is more harmful than helpful. Experts agree that sand should only be used on a lawn to level low areas, cover exposed tree roots and to fix heavy thatch build up. Even in those cases, it is recommended that you top dress with a rich, fine compost instead of sand. Sand particles cannot retain any nutrients, so applying a layer of sand year after year to lawns actually causes lawns to lose their fertility. Golf courses are built on sandy soil and specialized turf grasses that can thrive in sandy conditions are used on the greens. The grass seed or sod that most people have in their lawn is not the same as the grass on golf courses.

    Hi Lee - new to your channel here and immediately hooked! I'm long overdue of getting my act together regarding lawns. Roughly how much top dressing was required for your front lawn? I have a similar setup to yours lawn-wise. It's awkward accessing the back lawn from the front of the house.....my front lawn is about the size of yours, but the back is about three times bigger which means barrowing through a garage and small study! Ugh. So what sort of quantity did you use for the front to give me an idea of how much I would need for both?

      You can overseed any time during the growing season, the easiest time is autumn, because it generally wetter. Therfore the seeds will stay moist and have a better chance of germination.
      Top dress with top soil only but even this isn't necessary, put enough seeds down for the lawn and the birds and you'll be fine.

      It can be done anytime as long as you water it (and no snow or frost obviously)the spring and autumn are deemed as the best times because is quite warm and usually wet .

    Hi Lee, great videos as always. Just wondered what tines your using in the scarifier? I use the swinging blades in a camon. Your machine seems to bring out the thatch well without destroying the grass too much.

    I was hoping for a magic wand and special magic words. Oh well, I'll keep searching. By the way , what depth do you use on the scarifier? I've been told, just so it touches the ground and upwards of 1" into the ground. I found about 1/4 " is enough, but always open to advice.
