Genius! It seems that Martha Stewart has discovered junk journaling. It feels rather good to know that we're years ahead of a trend-setter. That may result in new subscribers and customers on Etsy. Let's hope so.
I’m so glad you’re enjoying this! You may need a nap later, haha! Thanks so much for watching!
Kathleen I can see these are going to a joy to make. I love mixing the different widths of scrap paper and the strips and they went so well with your journal…..Cyndi m.

Good Morning Kathleen, this was very timely for me! I jumped in and decided to work on two journals at one time (mistake #1). Cover & signatures were easy. They are very different styles/colors of papers (mistake #2). The struggle began when I went to decorate. Leftover pieces weren’t pleasing my eye so here we are a couple weeks later and one of them has a few pockets, tucks, belly band, etc. I think part of the issue was trying to mix & match the leftovers. I separated and it helped a little. However, this gave me an Ah Ha moment! I can quit shuffling through the scraps, create me some Art strips, then go back to the journal and find pages that will enhance that art!!! Thank you thank you!!! Especially for showing you use them in a journal. I was worried about “storing”. If I create it specifically for a particular journal, no storage needed. have an awesome day!
@@TwilaSue I’m sorry you got in over your head Twila-but glad you are back in the game! I love these for using up scraps. I just store them clipped with a binder clip and hung on my file cabinet. But using them right away is the best, haha!
I did the DUMBEST thing, I did FIVE journals at once! I thought I could just do it assembly style. But after putting in the signatures, and doing the covers, I found that I actually had to decorate each journal separately, in their own style. After that, it went a lot smoother and I had a LOT more fun! All five were for one customer! 🥴🙃 Thank goodness she was pleased with them all!
@ That is a relief, if she was pleased Kelly! Well done - I know exactly what you mean about mass decorating. It doesn’t work well for me either. It’s funny how they all need their own “take on it” - but congratulations on selling them all. Well done. And now you know how to approach things from here with some experience.
@@kellyhards8828 Thank you for your comment! It does help to know I wasn’t on that struggle bus alone! I got myself fooled because I did 6 cruise journals at once for all my family members that were going on a cruise with me. The trick was they all had the same theme! I would mass make pockets, then tags, etc. And then I could decorate them. Two Disney journals, with one being traditional Disney and the other Mary Poppins, was where the disaster occurred! Color schemes were different, them of decor was different and on and on. You and I will be wiser going forward from our shared struggle!! Many blessings!
Love these, Kathleen, and I appreciate you showing how you use them and add finishing touches to personalize them for the journal. Such great ideas

Hi Kathleen. First let me say that your results as always are terrific. I'm not sure my brain has fully grasped this idea. I got the impression, and maybe you did say this, that as you're working on the art strip, you're thinking of how you might use it--this could be a tuck spot, this could be a pocket, a belly band, etc. Also, it seems that you are using scraps from the papers you've been including in the book or at least ones that coordinate. Thanks for the video. It has definitely given me some things to consider that I don't think I've been doing. We always say, "There are no rules in junk journaling," but it seems to me that there are some guidelines and design concepts that can make our crafting life much easier. As always, thank you for sharing your expertise. (How long have you been making junk journals?)
@@lindaspaperworks Well, it is first a foremost just a way to use up scraps, kind of like a masterboard, or a cluster strip or a snippet roll without all the lace, haha. It could be that later, I suppose. I just do this largely when my foundation scraps build up in the tray - it’s a great way to just use up a lot of bigger scraps. It was a coincidence that the scraps on my cutting table were the same ones as the papers in these new journals that I just made. I need to build up an inventory fast to help out a friend with a table as a book fair in March. She needed a table, but has only 4 journals and I told her I would help her with her table. So lots of inventory fast and I don’t work fast, haha. I use these strips most often as a kind of patchwork belly band, but they also make great peek-a-boo pockets. I have been making junk journals for about 8 years. Thanks so much for coming by Linda - I always look forward to your thoughts!
😍❤️

Hi Kathleen! These are great! Do you make them to store for future use? If so how do you store them? Or do you just make as you need? I’m trying to get my scrap bins under control (as much as I can lol) Happy Saturday ☺️
Both! This is one of the ways that I reduce my scrap trays. I store them with a bulldog clip that hangs from a magnet on my tall metal file cabinet. That’s why I usually stop at about 30-40”
@ thank you! I’m gonna tackle my scrap bins soon and didn’t know where I could store them. I’m running out of room 😂
Hi. Could you tell me what glue you use? Love the strips and how you used them.. thanks 😊
Yes, happy to. I use FabriTac, especially for something like this. It doesn’t warp the paper and holds really well.
Great idea!! Where in and how do you store these strips in your craft room?
I store them clipped together with a bulldog clip that hangs from a magnet on my tall metal file cabinet. If you’re interested, I show them in my recent room tour video.
@ thanks 🙏🏻
I esp. enjoyed the use of these strips and the dec of them. Too many commercials.
I’m glad you enjoyed the concept Peg. Sadly, I have no control over the commercials.
