I share short videos of finished junk journals along with instructional tutorials and creative tips to inspire and help those interested in making or possessing unique, hand crafted artisan books.
I especially love old papers and ephemera! And I love writing, books and all kinds of fibers, lace and ribbons. It’s natural for me to combine all my loves into making books and share them here with you. I created my first collage with a whole box of bandaids when I was just a little girl and I have been seeing the beauty in everyday things ever since. I adore mixed media art from grungy to shabby chic to classic and especially vintage styles. Collage, assemblage, printing, dyeing and especially altered books are just a joy to me. I find deep satisfaction in recycling all kinds of common materials in something as wonderful as a re-made book.
Weedy barnyards, farmhouse attics and urban thrift shops are my favorite places, particularly when I can carry home a treasure of paper and lace.

Are there any artists who decorate the pages before binding? Have you ever done so? It seems like it would solve some problems, but create others. 😂 But i ask because I keep having post-binding problems and regrets. And working in tight folds by the spine, etc. But the probs might be because it's only my second book. Thanks for any thoughts you have on this.
@@eetoved1758 Oh yes! Many people seem to do their pages first. I have done this only occasionally. I much prefer to bind the journal and then decorate. I think it may be because I generally make writing journals and the focus is on the space for journaling, rather than decoration. Binding the journal first limits the decoration to what will fit in the spine. This, of course, leads to the issues that you have run into - tight spaces and the risk of gator mouth (which I really do not like) AND ending up with a giant book that is difficult to use. Some decorating has to be done before binding, so there is planning that has to take place, haha. But, in general I bind first, and if I run out of room for decorating ideas, I just finish up and make a second journal. It just depends on what you like and what the journal IS meant to be - in my mind. Thanks for asking.
Thanks, Kathleen! I love the colour combinations that you use! The beautiful butterfly peek-a-boo pocket is stunning! 🥰 Do you ever feel tempted to keep the journals that you really love? Much love and big hugs! 😀💞
@@kerynokeeffe9133 I do feel tempted to keep them Keryn, but I also already have a stack that I quite love, haha. Thank you so much for your steady support of me - I appreciate you.

@@ScrapbookSage Thank you so much Dawn!
Do you, or do most creators, decorate the back cover, or just leave it plain?
Another lovely journal, Kathleen. Love the blues, and the browns are a perfect complement to them. Among my favorite elements are the collar pocket and of course, the peekaboo pocket with the flip. This journal has an amazing amount of journaling space and so many beautiful embellishments, too. Your paperclip with the bird motif/medallion is perfect on that page. Thanks for the flip through. I always enjoy when you go through your journals with us and show all the secrets.
@@lindaspaperworks Thank you so much LInda!

@@kmwwrench How fun - I kind of like just looking for phrases. I really like it when I can find large text. Thanks so much for coming by!
Another source for "twine" is crochet cotton in various sizes. I inherited a variety from my mother from quite fine (doily/lace weight) to the heavier type for making dishcloths. I wind some onto a card before I donate the rest of a spool/skein. I may just keep some of them because of their usefulness. 🙂 I also keep the longer scraps from my own crocheting (afghans) to use on greeting cards, but they could be useful in junk journals too. I am planning to keep my eyes open at second hand stores (or mark down bins) for some of the fancy yarns that would work for paper crafting. If I have too much, I can share it, which is all the better. Thanks for you helpful videos.

Are address books now vintage in the digital age?
I would say yes Ellie. Anything older than 20 years is considered vintage, so it would depend on how “new” it looks. But I would think so, yes.
