  • This video is about Mike Icee replacing a blower motor in a W212 E350 because the fan is making noise and he is sick of the noise! You'll see a step by step DIY to know what's involved. Can the old unit be fixed? No, because the bearings are damaged and oiling them will only silence the squeaks for a month or so.

Thanks for posting this video. My air/heat quit blowing so I am going to replace the blower motor. One thing I am going to do different than your video is that I am going to test and make sure the blower motor works properly before I put my glove compartment area back together. I would be highly upset if I put everything back together and then tested it and it didn't work. Thanks for the great video, you're saving tons of people a lot of time and money.

Do you have any info on diagnosis for assigning fault to the blower motor vs. regulator/resistor? My blower is starting to occasionally not work. Previously, it has been squeaking very faintly occasionally for a couple of years when very cold, a little louder when taking turns (I guess the fan acts like a gyroscope?). If I turn HVAC system off, then tap underneath the fan/resistor area, then turn the HVAC on again, the fan works again. So I'm thinking either there's some sort of relay in the regulator that's lazy (if it even has any), or the fan is binding just enough or in a position where the brushes maybe aren't making good contact. Plan is to remove the cover under the glove box, disconnect the motor plug and see if voltage to the motor is reliable and consistent (obviously changing with fan speed selected). If so, that would indicate the regulator is fine. Then I plan to apply voltage to the motor directly and see if it performs reliably. Anyway, is this a good plan to find the culprit? Sorry for the long post but trying to cover all the bases.

    • @mikeicee

Be careful when applying voltage to the blower motor Because it will want to move around and dangerous for fingers.

    • @mikeicee

house67 I did it because I feel sometimes the various companies cheat or adjust quality. If it goes bad I’ll get a Behr. I get 10-25% off at the dealership. I NEVER buy the dealership wiper blades because they go bad like clock work in 1 year.

1 year is actually very good. MB suggests changing them twice a year. In my experience, when I bought the OE Bosch Aerotwin blades they went bad much faster than the MB blades.
