Welcome to Lone Duck Outfitters and Kennels! In this video we talk about teaching your dog to hold onto items. We begin using an unused paint roller so the dog can easily grip it and it's easy for us to hold, too. Plus, it's cheap and something anyone can get their hands on.
How do you teach your dog to hold?

Great video. Since you’re wearing a mic, I would suggest not chewing gum. Just my 2 cents.

IEXCELLENT! DAY 1 I like initial SILENCE instead of background noise of "Hold,Hold,Hold,Hold,Hold". Silence allows the dog to figure out that not chomping results in release and praise. Background noise of "Hold,Hold,Hold,Hold,Hold" may teach pup to ignore the command or interpret "hold" as allowing chomping. Later "hold" only once, "drop" only once at key instants in time. In general repeating commands erode the impact of commands to background noise.

Really enjoy your videos! I have standard poodle that is 11 weeks old. What training should I focus on before I can collar condition?

at 11 weeks, let them be a pup. also introduce them to as many people, places and things as possible. then as they get older, crush the obedience work!

Just to be clear, Bob, you do this Hold intro before FF and then move right into FF? Thank you.

Do I need my 6 month pup to be super crazy about retrieving before ear pinch? She is going out and bringing back--I don't really know what I am expecting other than that.
