As the child of the parent from main china, my personal tip for you when u get child is, let him learn chinese and english before indonesia (especially when he get into international school) let him learn the indonesia slowly as he grows because the language is easier to learn when speaking to his peers. This is my early age issue when i got used to indonesian language first and cannot balance the chinese and english lol. my younger brother who get learn chinese first get the mastery of both language faster

Proud of your language or your skin colour would lead your country Indonesia going nowhere...😱
Many tribes in AFRICA were so proud of their languages and cultures that they killed each other over the differences...
Indonesia was a weakling, and still had so many weaknesses which had Indonesia to be colonized by that tiny little country in Europe called Dutch for 350 years... 😱

I used to have many friends from china, as we work together here in Bali in the wedding industry. The first time arrived from china, they always look and act very seriously. It was really hard to communicate. but after a few month, they got more chilled and open. we understand this might just a cultural shock. your thought about living in china compare to Indonesia are more less similar to what they said. and those my friends were always want it to comeback to Bali wkwkw.

My friend worked for 6 months in Shanghai as a part of company transfer program. Since he is just a temporary worker there (live there for company project), the work-life balance is still good and the pressure is not high. He said, it will be different if you truly work and live there, the pressure is the same like working in first tier city in Japan or South Korea. People are not forced to work 996 in his case, but the worker initiatives is so high that put peer pressure into another level.

It is the same in all highly populated 1st tier east asian cities. sz,tokyo,sh,seoul and so on. People work hard every day because it is highly competitive . That being said, I believe that China third tier cities are way more relaxed than sz or sh.
Western european cities are more relaxed because of less people density and good social and welfare benefits. People don't worry much if they get laid off or sick because government will support them with benefits.
US people are more ambitious than their western european counter parts because they can not rely much on benefits from government.

one thing I respect on Chinese education is their emphasis on Mathematics. Their math standard is truly the highest among Asian countries. The chinese treated math is something like their own bible where young children as young as 4 started to master the basic skill of add and subtract. By middle school they already master calculus . of the advantage their English language education holds the biggest disadvantage. Im not sure if this is their learning method by simply memorizing rather than understanding is good or not but for me their method of teaching English is wrong. English cannot be memorized, it need to be made a habit by always practice it either in writing or conversation. There is no use to keep on memorize when English is a fluid subject. It changes all the time.

My instagram feed is just cats and cute pets. I especially abhor newsfeed about politics just because of how toxic they are.

what is your view of chinese descent in indonesia... do you think of them as indonesian or chinese regardless of their nationality.

    • @bldomain
      @bldomain 2 года назад

I find that the Indonesian Chinese are fluent in the Indonesian language than we Malaysian Chinese are on our fluency in the Malay language. Indo-Chinese are not fluent in Chinese and always speak Indonesian, it seems they are more assimilated in Indonesia but unfortunately they are always been reminded of their Chinese ethnicity with racial violence inflicted upon them every now and then and event like the Ahok crisis.
Similarly in Malaysia, we are constantly being reminded that we are Chinese as evident in every government and private sector forms where there is a section to indicate our race by ticking the Chinese box category. Malaysia also has the never ending affirmative policy where they are named Bumiputra and we as Non-Bumiputra with:-
      1. Bigger quota allocated for Bumiputera in Public University enrollment (as much as 90%)
      2. At least 30% jobs allotment in public listed companies and more than 90% in government link corporations.
      3. Mandatory discount of 7-10% to be given to Bumi to buy house from new development project.
      4. There are also many restriction on Non Bumi to get license to operate taxi, petrol station, bus transportation company, banks and finance firms and many more.
Therefore we are made not to be inclusive or accepted as fully Malaysian.

@@bldomain I am Indonesian of Chinese descent. In my opinion, Indonesia and Malaysia are still racist towards ethnic Chinese, but Malaysia's racism level is stronger than Indonesia.
If you say Chinese Indonesians are better assimilated then I say it's not pure assimilation... but forced assimilation during the era of President Suharto, all things related to Chinese culture and language were prohibited in public. There is no official school that teaches Mandarin in Indonesia, so this language has become forgotten. It is quite difficult to find young people of Chinese descent who can speak Mandarin unless they are self-taught, taught or take Mandarin courses.
Racism against Chinese Malaysia by Bumiputera is stronger because Chinese Malaysia does not want to speak Malay and be exclusive. This caused the Bumiputera to feel angry. Hey... we can mingle with the natives but don't have to sacrifice our native culture as chinese.
Indonesia chinese are treated better here, there is no significant discrimination in public services or rights as citizens. however discrimination occurs in government policies that prioritize native peoples as the basis for policy making

The Malays have also to blame for Chinese Malaysian seemingly "unassimilated" exclusive nature. The Malay language we learned in school are so different from the everyday spoken Malay - it is entirely a different language. I myself find it very difficult to communicate effectively with them especially those with heavy accent from Kedah and Kelantan. It does not help when the "educated" ones alway wanted to speak to us in English when they know we can speak English. It is like they are trying to practise their English on us.
The exclusivity of their Ketuanan Melayu also played a part to separate the Chinese from freely mingling with them. There are hardly any Chinese in the public sector, GLC, police, army etc as such there is not much integration amongst us. This apply too socially as they are very particular on halal food and observing Islamic matters which alienate the Chinese.
I don't believe that racisms against the Chinese stems mainly from the inability of the Chinese to communicate in Malay. The main reason is economic inequality and rising political power of the Chinese (albeit for a short time only). The zeal of their affirmative policy which reinforced the political motivation of Malay politicians to be seen as fighting for the Malays and protecting them from the economic encroachment of the Chinese by containing them has contributed to the systematic institutionalized racism against the Chinese.

That's right ... racism is a weapon of the Malaysian government to make policies that only benefit the bumiputera and discriminate against the ethnic chinese.
Malaysia is not ashamed to openly discriminate against ethnic Chinese. In Indonesia, discrimination against ethnic Chinese can be ridiculed and hostile because not all natives agree with discriminatory behavior against ethnic Chinese and another factor is the domination of the Indonesian economy by a handful of conglomerates of Chinese descent. Of course, Indonesia does not want to damage the good relationship with the conglomerate because they are the biggest tax contributor for Indonesia.
Indonesia also has a law that can imprison the perpetrators of hate speech for 6 months in prison. I think this is why hate speech such as insults to ethnic Chinese is drastically reduced. Malaysia should emulate Indonesia in this regard. Does malaysia have the will to stop hate speech? that's the problem.
