Those upgrades take several minutes to research. Minutes that would have let Reynor catch back up either way I think.

So sad how everyone doesn't giver Reynor the credit he deserves. He came from behind in match point against the global best. He earned his trip to the final even if at 17 he still isn't ready to take on the Koreans on that type of stage. This kid is doing more at a younger age than anyone else ever has. Imagine how scary good he will be in a couple of years.
If I'm not mistaken, Alphastar does not have a proper APS limit and really has a micro mega advantage that makes up for how strategically suboptimal it can be.

Feel like that was some hubris from Serral. "Oh you think you can do muta ultra? I WILL do muta ultra!" And he fails with it too in basically the same way (although I guess he did do better with it than Raynor). Either way Pooh wins.
Thats what I was thinking too....he wasn't trying to win Blizzcon, he was trying to make a statement and destroy Reynor with his own strategy......he will curse himself for that for quite some time now when he realizes he threw away a history making achievement perhaps.

When you have 2/3 upgrades for melee, going ultra might sound like a reasonable proposition even for the best. Even though history shows that ultras are a surefire way to loose. So sad about that last game. Woulda gotten a great finals with Serral against Dark. No disrespect to Reynor, but he always plays so bad against the top Korean players.

That was a pretty epic Game 5, but odd choices from Serral. He just saw that same strategy fail in Game 4, why would he opt for it in the critical Game 5? Also, his baneling run-bys halved Reynor's economy. He had plenty of time to transition out of mutas into Lurker / hydra / infestor / viper. Instead he picks Ultralisk? Again, he just saw ultras get owned horribly by that very combo of his own in Game 4, why would he willingly take the losing unit composition? It makes no sense.
The refreshing part about Reynor is the excitement and emotion he shows as he plays and when he wins. The Koreans act like its their birthright to win they show no joy and no humility. Reynor wears his emotions on his sleeve and it is so genuine and fun to watch.
That's Asians in general, not just SKoreans. They lack the aesthetic and at times appear soulless or devoid of a personality. It's something I picked up on when in Japan and SKorea for two years at a time and in China for about 10 months. I wouldn't be so harsh on these SKorean players specifically.

I'm curious, why does losing one roach battle mean that you lose the whole map? or is it that they just "read the long game" and decide losing that much of your army means death?
@@rhysjones81 there's a point when you lose too many units the enemy will take too much ground and kill any more units you make with very little chance for you to come back. Most people quit at this point because there really isn't a chance they can win
Ultras good against terran when he has a lot of defense on a choke and then you only need one or two at most. Any more means you start to waste money pure ultras is super bad. They are battering rams for front doors. When the door opens you need a army behind them to run in.

@@TheScarp21 the problem with ultras are the pathfinding and that after a certain point it just derps around the back lines instead of going the direct surround. It can also be seen in zerglings except the speed mitigates that issue quite a lot. Letting smaller units under isn't really an issue with the uniqueness of the colossus we have already seen the abberation do that albeit it's campaign/co-op only.
And here I am, thinking that starcraft is a deadgame, I missed this game, it's already been 10yrs since I last played, I wonder if I still know how to play...

I dont want to be a Serral apologist, I'm sick of him winning everything. However this finals was a shitshow that happened all in one single day. It was like 12 hours of starcraft straight. We saw serral yawn and look tired at the very beginning. Looking at the face cams for whatever reason it seems serral is much more tired than raynor; I guess serral just doesn't have the best stamina. I hope next year the finals are over 2 or 3 days not on the same day.

because more stuff kills less stuff so when one player kills too much stuff the other player can't make as much stuff as the first player.
