While I'm loathe to say that anything can't be topped, I daresay this is the definitive version of this song: an incredible voice, superb musicians, intimate surroundings and what I'm coming to think is one of the finest songs ever written. Just not sure than it can get any better than this.
This performance shows why simple songs are so often near perfection. I admire Joan because she has sung what she wanted to sing rather than what she was told to sing. Try to find her version of Raglan Road she does with the cheiftains. Another perfect performance.
My first introduction to Jan & I've been an obsessive fan ever since! Love Phil's piano. The Transatlantic Sessions were the best thing on tv back then & as far as I'm concerned, never since bettered.
Such a wonderful singer. My brother sent me a video of her appearing at the Opry, and, I'm ashamed to say that I hadn't heard of her before. My loss. A brilliant singer. 🪕🎤🎶👍Gerry Farry.
This may be our best great version ever We may never be surpassed again. Just let me enjoy it 'til it's over, or forever Please don't let this song ever end.
This may be our last good night together We may never pass this way again. Just let me enjoy it 'til it's over, or forever Please don't tell me how the story ends. See the way our shadows come together Softer than your fingers on my skin Someday these may be all we remember of each other Please don't tell me how the story ends. Never's just the echo of forever Lonesome as a love that might have been. Let me go on lovin' and believin' 'til it's over Please don't tell me how the story ends.
Hey, how 'bout some props to Mr. Jerry Douglas for that tasty lap steel, an instrument that you don't see or hear too much (or enough) anymore. Also, why can one man write "never's just the echo of forever" & "freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose". One of the best ever, Mr. KK, God Bless You!
the thing about Joan, if you look at all her videos, is she clearly loves singing/music and dharing that love with anyone that cares to listen. On youtube she has a video where she singe at a Barnes and Noble, another few with the Funk Brothers, and some pop stuff too..notice in all of them she is totally given into the music. I've always admired that about her...and it comes through in the quality and talen of her vocals...she's easily one of my fav female vocalists.
Just heard her for the first time accompanying Iris Dement. They are both wonderful artists. What have I been missing! Never heard this song done as good - fabulous is not a fitting adjective for this beauty.
Could someone please tell me if that's the Legendary Jerry Douglas on the Slide Guitar? No Doubt Joan can sing all types of music...Excellent Voice Quality.
+Bobby Scott Absolutely. This is from the Transatlantic Sessions series. Jerry Douglas and Aly McBain were the musical directors; fantastic series. You should Google it and search on RUclips. You'll love it.
@@jamesmccormick211 Transatlantic Sessions is still alive and kicking. It closes out the Celtic Connections festivsl in Glasgow every January. The same Jerry Douglas,Ally Bain,Phil Cunningham and another seven or eight superb musicians backing a selection of singers from both sides fo the Atlantic.Recent years have seen Rodney Crowell, shawn Colvin, Rhiannon Giddens ,Mary Chapin Carpenter. This years event (Jan 2019) features Gretchen Peters among others. We attend every year and bought our tickets this week.www.celticconnections.com/events/Pages/event.aspx?event=15/transatlantic-sessions
such a beautiful and talented woman. her voice sweeps me away everytime. although she does not look like she is singing live here :( but i could be wrong
The version by Willie Nelson tops this effort by some distance - he delivers a much more soulful and emotionally authentic rendition of this beautiful song.
Kristofferson really writes a great song, doesn't he ? Joan really does it justice ! A great song done by a great singer - that's what music is all about.

Man, sometimes I forget how incredibly this woman sings. Then I stumble across something like this with her.
Joan certainly owns this song. One of the best renditions of Kris Kristofferson's beautiful poetry.
I have never seen anybody perform a song as well as this, pure feeling, absolutely breathtaking.
2022 , have listened to countless versions. This is the best I've heard. Thanks.
An undiscovered gem, and another reason to appreciate the sublime aspects of 'simple' country music.
Joan Osborn does "Please Don't Tell Me How The Story Ends" the best I ever heard. Takes me back to a sad time in my life. He left.
loss for words....jaw dropped.....Only Joan could make this song sound so alive.
This performance shows why simple songs are so often near perfection. I admire Joan because she has sung what she wanted to sing rather than what she was told to sing. Try to find her version of Raglan Road she does with the cheiftains. Another perfect performance.
Joan Osborne has a loving gentle voice that causes this song to to echo in your mind and stay there! 🤠
Recorded in our old converted farm steading in central scotland.some wonderful music and tunes and players
Every time I hear this woman she absolutely nails it. Joan Osborne is fantastic.
Best interpretation of this beautiful love song written by Kris Kristofferson. Lovers really don't want to know how the story ends.
The poetry of Kristofferson when sung by an intelligent and insightful singer really is something sublime
Joan rips my heart out with this song.
Her voice the fiddle and the slide... fantastic !!!

Very effective way of saluting the song and the singer. Well done.
Joan is so much fun to listen to
Oh Lord...breathtaking!
The lap steel fits this selection perfectly. What a job from Joan & the band.
Breathtaking, literally takes my breath away 💖👏🌹
She's beautiful and a beautiful voice. The best.
I couldn't agree more. Well put. I've always thought the same thing about her. She clearly has the respect of the musicians she performs with.
Our shared heritage-at its peak of its power.
Thanks to the wondrous Mr. Kristofferson for this great song...nicely, nicely done, Joan!
Music dose not get any better than this .
A beatiful voice , how lucky we are to share her music
one of my favourites, thanks for uploading this, Joan has the voice of a Angel.
I never knew Joan Osborne was such a great country singer, this is as good as anything by Patsy Cline.
Such a touching song, and what a great job she does on it.
This has to be as beautiful and sad as any song ever written - I've had a recent break-up and it brings tears to my eyes.
Hope your better

Have to agree on all counts. She is a diva and has that certain"je ne sai quoi" :~)
let,s not forget another great musician that should be included in this groop, jerry douglas.
no one sings his songs better than he himself. no one can compare with the depth and honesty of Kris.
Could someone please tell me if that's the Legendary Jerry Douglas on the Slide Guitar? No Doubt Joan can sing all types of music...Excellent Voice Quality.

I had heard that recently. I'd love to go over. My sister lives in Ireland and my niece is in Bristol, so I guess I have no excuses.
I’m being pedantic here, but Jerry is playing a lap steel guitar.
💕
NOT ONE OF THE BEST BUT THE BEST
She is awesome! Listen to her Do the Hip shake by The Rolling Stones!
Please don't tell How the story END
Like
Jerry Douglas, lap steel ?
Beautiful cover.
Yes
I love her, and she no way needed this guy in this song, way to beautiful a voice he adds nothings, except a distraction to look at.
tambien estoy enamorado de ella
such a beautiful and talented woman. her voice sweeps me away everytime. although she does not look like she is singing live here :( but i could be wrong
Her voice makes me week...so beautiful

For some reason , I think of Iris Dement as I listen to this. With a more refined voice.
Kristofferson really writes a great song, doesn't he ? Joan really does it justice ! A great song done by a great singer - that's what music is all about.
Superb version of Kris Kristofferson's tiuching song.
Joan sings beter than all the others.
She sings it better than anyone else, other than Ronnie Milsap. Kudos to the writer Kris Kristopherson who wrote a heartbreaking beautiful song.
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!
