  • How to install air admittance valve under the sink in under 5 minutes. (Link Below)
    After reading www.nycc-mag.com/top-air-admi... we decided to replace Studor vent with this Tuuber air admittance valve. My slow drain caused by no vent to roof or actually an improper clogged vent since my plumber said the vent was too far from the trap. It caused siphoning of my trap and the smell was so bad around the sink.
    So I installed an air admittance valve in under 5 minutes. It's easy to install and improve my drainage system and sink drains faster now since installing the little AAV device. No bad sewer odors like before the air admittance valve eliminates the bad rotten egg smell completely.
    This project started when a Studor vent air admittance valve went bad in my bathroom that builder contractor installed some time ago and I replaced that Studor vent AAV with the a different Manufacturer brand at the time and about a year later another air admittance valve went bad.
    The most difficult part of it was choosing which Studor vent or what I discovered is actually an air admittance valve to buy. I wanted the best air admittance valve. There seemed to only be a few air admittance valves out there, Oatey sure-vent, Studor, and Tuuber. I already had not so great luck with Oatey and Studor, since studor vent was the first to go and then Oatey so I did more research and read many reviews (hundreds of reviews on over 25 websites) and finally after reading best air admittance valve - test reviews at www.nycc-mag.com/top-air-admi... we decided to replace with this Tuuber air admittance valve. It has a double seal in the valve and figured it had to be better, right?
    Some reviews stated it was bigger than the others and we thought well, for the recessed box replacements it may not work out. I wanted the best air admittance valve but if it meant a bigger air admittance valve I would have to make many changes to the existing pipe. Well as it turns out, YES, it was much better, it was the best air admittance valve. It was an easy replacement for the recessed box air admittance valves and it's not much bigger than the Studor vent and other I had installed before it. So that was a relief. We also noticed that the air admittance valve just felt the best well constructed and so much higher quality when we removed it from the packaging.
    I wanted to share this information and this video because I know how frustrating it was to first, figure out where the smell was coming from in the bathroom and the kitchen. And then being frustrated about the previous Studor vent replacement air valves not working and still failing. So this is my easy way of installing one and sharing my experience so that others can hopefully deal with less hassle in choosing and installing an air admittance valve.

    normally, you want the AAV air admittance valve at least 4 inches above the horizontal pipe. higher is better.

      What if that’s just not possible? I’m at a loss man I fix cars not plumbing. I replaced all the plumbing under my kitchen sink and there’s no cheater vent or anything. Wasn’t before tho, but now I’m smelling gases. So I purchased the cheater vent and the only place to put it is like this guy, no hole in my counter lol

      @@lexuses3942 it’ll still work short, but higher lets the air push the water down better with more air coming in from above. Sounds like you have no p trap is what your gasses are coming through.

    Couple of things. From what I read In code the AAV should be 4” above the horizontal waste pipe and not less than 6” above the highest fixture drain. If that’s correct the vertical pipe where the AAV was installed needed to be 3-4” higher so it’s above the bottom of the drain. That way if there is a blockage it will backfill into the sink and not blow out of the vent (AAV), correct?

    • @nickloche7106
      @nickloche7106  3 года назад +5

      On single fixture only 4" above the horizontal drain or trap weir of that fixture. Any group of 2 or more fixtures that air admittance valve serves must then be located a minimum of 6" above the flood rim of the highest fixture in that group on same floor level.

      @@lexuses3942 Then a hole you must put in your counter. This is why most local jurisdictions don't allow ATV vents inside buildings. Improper installation, are not maintained, and are subject to failure.

      @@lexuses3942 pressure on the fittings under the sink will lead to them eventually leaking. The fixtures need to be square. Of course you may luck up, and it won't leak, but more times than not, it will. The discharge should have been cut back slightly to allow a clean proper fit. But, for the information given in the video, that can be overlooked.
