      Question, is it possible that Ao does have a portfolio? I ask because after your video on Ao I came up with a theory. The deities existence probably are what gives Ao his power and his portfolio is "deity and balance." Basically Ao exists because of the same reason they exist and that's because they all have contemplated their own existance and what it means to be a god, and thus accidentally created Ao without realizing it.

      ...yet this only applies to Forgotten Realms too.
      My primary criticism with the FR Elven Pantheon is that they're ALL chaotic deities. Religion is fundamentally lawful in that it's seeking to organize, teach, and structure people's lives. There's a reason that they're called "Religious Orders", so while chaotic does lend itself well to elves, the fey, etc., the Sun Elven pursuit of "Kingdom building" is in actuality, a lawful pursuit. So, the real question then is: Just how much of this chaotic lifestyle do they choose to partake in?

    • @300SonsofOdin
      @300SonsofOdin Год назад +2

      @@tyree9055 I agree with you to a certain degree.
      Then again, teaching people fundamental morality through religion is not a definitive structure in my eyes. Teaching a young Elf the concept of freedom and good (do whatever you want, as long as you don't harm anyone that does not want to harm you, for example) is in my opinion not lawful organizing per se. Also, humans, and by extension Elves, have banded together for safety and survival reasons. Terefore a certain structure must be formed for anarchy not to run rampand and prevent the destruction of a society.
      Even animals do have a basic form of structure in their society, yet I would not dare to call them lawful. Therefor, I do understand your idea (I think at least I do understand) and my response would be: As long as the fundamental rules and morality of living together in social structures are not broken, people parake in chaotic nature by the virtue of them doing what they want to do. If that makes any sense.

    • @tyree9055
      @tyree9055 Год назад +4

      @@300SonsofOdin My advice for handling the elven religion would be this:
      While the elves are all (largely) religious, they do not form churches, but rather Temples only. A place to worship their deities, make offerings, etc. There'd be small shrines found within (or near to) their homes as well. This allows for the individual (i.e. chaotic?) worship of their deities, and keeps a level of separation between church and state.
      Whereas, a lawful church would hold organized masses, take / collect offerings, hold sermons (daily or weekly?), and create militant religious orders (akin to the Templers, Hospitallers, and Teutonic Knights).
      Furthermore, teaching morality is, in essence, a lawful behaviour, because those who're teaching it are trying to structure and organize their society (I'd argue that the teacher is more lawful than the student though, too) along the good / evil axis.
      Being lawful is being orderly, and believing in a certain structure of thought (generally how most people view their lives and existence) is indeed a form of order. Knowing right from wrong is a form of order. How extreme a level of order is another thing. Even the elven pantheon is an order. Corellon is at the top (Ao really is 😅), then Sehanine, Rillifane, etc. At the bottom of this hierarchy is Alobal, Darahl, Alathrien, etc. Then of course, Lolth and her crew of misfits are in opposition (though I wouldn't call them a cooperative hierarchy in any way). They're still a hierarchy (i.e. an "order"), but their relationship is totally hostile with one another as much as it is with the Seldarine.
      Anyways, I hope that I've helped you out somewhat (and not confused you)!
      😅👍

    • @300SonsofOdin
      @300SonsofOdin Год назад

      @@tyree9055 No worries, mate. You are, indeed, helping me a lot here. But it seems that I have understood your question wrong then (or I reading something into it the wrong way).
      I agree with you in 90% of what you said. Yet you did not mention the masses/sermons in your original question. So I thought that this was a given, that the Elves do not partake in such things (other than very special occasions).
      Then I again disagree with you that teaching morality is a form of lawfulness in itself. I again have to bring up the animals with a natural order as an exaple. If you say that every form of structure as it stands is a form of order (natural or otherwise made by society) and therefore is lawful, would that not imply the absence of chaos as a concpet on its own?
      Chaos as such, I think, can only work if there is no society tied to it. So for chaos to be active, it would have to be broken down on the level of an individual (aka every single person on its own).
      Then again, maybe I am reading something into this question that does not exist. Or maybe I am understanding it wrong.
      But non the less, it has been a pleasure to talk to you :) You have an interesting vew in this matter and I think we agree in most aspects, except some minor details here and there.

    • @tyree9055
      @tyree9055 Год назад +2

      @@300SonsofOdin Yeah, I am not considering animals too much in this, but they do enforce their own "pecking order" too (at least some of them), so they have their own way of creating structure. Family units have a natural hierarchy.
      So, when an organization is described as lawful or chaotic, it doesn't necessarily mean that chaotic (or lawful) characters aren't in the organization. They're just rebels or deviants...
      😅
      As for chaos, it is possible to have orderly disorder (think of a food processor, black hole, galaxy, etc.). Everything's flying around in a disorderly fashion, but once you look at it from afar, you find that there is in fact, order within the chaos.
      But that debate is for philosophers... 😅

    It really is insane how powerful godly abilities are. Just last session, my Warlock was explaining to some NPCs how we had helped defeat a Kuo-Toa-spawned "Avatar" of Lolth, and almost immediately a small house spider crawls up and bites my character, because if you say the name then they can hear and see you. This is also similar to how Orcus found out she killed one of his liches with a Hellfire Weapon, thus robbing him of a powerful undead soul, so she now has vulnerability to Necrotic damage via curse that's about as difficult to purge as infected Lycanthropy (can't just Remove Curse, need specific circumstances before doing so, or raw power like a Planetar's Healing Touch, which is our current plan).

      I mean in older editions, when they had actual mechanics, it would be pretty similar. They could essentially cast scrying at will, with no material components, with a range of multiple miles, centered on their temples, their faithful, the mention of their name, or just anything related to their portfolio. So yeah your DM lines it up with how strong they should be based on lore, personally I can't stand DMs who downplay the gods. I had one DM who straight up said " most gods aren't even level 20." Like yes if you reach Level 20 your character should be overpowered but you should not be stronger then a God

But a mundane spider bite is absolutely the catty reaction I find to be so many layers of power move that it's amazing.

In my mind the blood from this created the 'ugly Fey' with the blood from the eye being ripped out birthing Baba Yaga and the Hags. A secret deal was made by Feylords to provide a home for this new races in the Feywild and forests...while Lolth's followers would share the Underdark with the Orcs. Shadow magic is sooooo much more than just "the ability to deal damage with illusions." No one really cares whether the fire that is *actually* burning them is illusory or not. They want it to stop burning them. The ability to do unconventional damage is not the reason why it is seen as a corruption.
    Shadow magic is illusion made real. The wildest fantasies given the same weight as the person next to you.
    Even when those fantasies are not demented in any way... you lose sight of the world around you.
    Oh, and there's the fact that the plane of shadow fuels shadow magic, and is an inherently depressing and sullen place. Its essence leaks through with every cast. Which people will then relate it to how negative energy fuels undead, and then say that that doesn't make sense, and that undead are pure and perfect automatons that have no cost whatsoever, so long as the necromancer is good.... and they say leaking negative energy doesn't make sense.
    And then you start to wonder: why would a place, where illusions *are* reality be depressing? And then things start to click together even without the metaphysics.

    Ed Greenwood stated Mystra is the undisputed most powerful deity of the Realms apart from the High God Ao, because she is the embodiment of the Weave and can even cut off the connection of other gods from both arcane and godly magic, including Corellon. None of the other gods know this and it’s also why her Chosen are so much more powerful than the Chosen of other gods: Ao forces Mystra to split her powers with various mortals to prevent her from conquering Realmspace. But this was otherwise done very well.

    I typically get kinda annoyed when online creators tell people how to support them, especially when it's a transactional, narcissistic one (e.g., "Donate $5 to my Patreon for a shoutout at the end of my video", "Buy merch at my store with my face/logo on it"). But you are completely different. You gave out this Feywarden subclass for free - a product which doesn't serve to directly market your channel or feed your own ego - and didn't ask for money. Instead, you just transparently requested that your viewers interact with the video further or with the channel. And you didn't even guilt folks into buying anything in exchange. You just mentioned that anyone can support you further in other ways, but that it isn't strictly necessary. I love this approach. Mad props.

      The Chained God is only intermediate rank as a god. If he had the shard of evil, then he would have a claim to make as the strongest. Plus most of his incarnations devour their own clerics and worshippers or drive them insane. That is not a good way to maintain power. I'm inclined to believe that devouring your own priests is the reason Her Majesty Lolth keeps losing her Greater God status over and over again. From the lore of her transformation, her " Silence " wasn't the first time she gained the rank.

    I honestly would love to see more like this (the conversion of the fey warden) and be able to use it in my own games from time to time and getting certain stats of monsters that you cover that aren't in the monster manual, now I know that Dungeon Dad does this exact thing, but i would like to see what you make and the specifications of certain creatures, variations of a certain type of creature, spells, subclasses, races, and the like. I have run into a minor issue with some stuff where I have used lore of creatures that you have covered or even mentioned that aren't in the monster manual and struggled with some of their abilities in game, and what their stats may be. I find this subclass conversion very helpful and intriguing but I definitely don't want to put more work on Rhexx to go and convert everything, this is just merely a thought but doesn't necessarily need to be in your content because it is amazing enough. The amount of lore that is scrounged up and served to us is phenomenal.

      Love the PDF.. haha, I find Sylvan Creature Form so very interesting. I've been building around this sort of power a bit, I introduced a dragon themed item that would allow the wielder to transform into a dragon of spending charges = CR rating with max charges = to lvl. They recharged a die worth each day and could pump extra sorc points into it to recharge counters as well. I set it at once per dawn, but realistically with the recharge rate it was every 2-3 days, and no legendary abilities. We're high magic, high fantasy, but unfortunately the item walked out the the PC when the player made a switch to their new char so we never saw it play out.
      I would say... this spell is a little wild with lvl 7 hag, and lvl 8 hag options... lvl 7 is 4th level cleric spells so CR rating 7 or lower, and those options as I see them on D&D beyond are Korred (legit fun and powerful, and at once a long rest? Okay maybe. They only outshine everyone else once a day. Do they form with a great club? idk, probs not so then they carry one and drop it before casting, kinda cool), then Smiler the Defiler is a named fey so maybe not applicable? Again DM call there, but then theres..
      Bheur Hag. Yikes. I could see an argument for them to have the greystaff as it's so key to their being, but even if they can't cast hold person at will or cone of cold from a 50ft fly (hover) speed they still get two frost shards per turn? Idk maybe I'm talking myself into it.... but for an hour to have a 60ft single target fireball x2 per round. Idk how I'd balance that in the party. Horrific Feast is *chef's kiss* though and I absolutely want to throw some against my party JUST to use that ability once in front of them hahaha
      Idk, just musing on power balance really, not trying to make a judgement call! How do other folks, or you MrRhexx, see power balance with this sort of spell? Some creature types seem too weak, but Fey are always tricky and have those crazy spells.

    Two campaigns back, I was playing an elf wizard who at one point was one of the most loyal paladins of Corellon.
    But when his human wife had passed, he cried to Corellon to bring her back.
    Corellon solemnly told him that she died a natural death, and that to bring her back would be a great affront.
    My character angry at his "Great Protector ", set out into the world angry, hoping that he could one day find his wife, brought back into the world through the natural cycle.
    Two long, lonely lifetimes later, my elf character is randomly teleporting around out of boredom as he feels that no direction in particular will help him find her. So we just flits about randomly, hoping beyond hope. Never questioning why he keeps reincarnating, despite his anger at Corellon.
    Towards the final chapters of the campaign, he manages to reconcile with Corellon, and is granted a great boon, a gift to show that even in anger, in grief, even in isolation, he is without a doubt an epitome of an elf.
    This translated in game, as complete access to the cleric spell list as a wizard using my intelligence as my casting ability.
    Now I didn't know most of the information in this video, and I'm so very glad that my DM was knowledgeable enough that between the two of us we randomly stumbled into a character that fit the setting so well while still holding very true to the lore that I just learned in this video.
    Also, big thank you for the subclass. I'm going to show this to my fiancee, who in that same campaign played as a cleric of Elestri.
