As someone who (if you ignore my time with the 1997 Microprose PC game) started playing MTG in Alara block, I am definitely fond of Exalted and how it adds more strategy to attacking, and creates situations where it can be much more advantageous to attack with just 1 creature and leave a wall of blockers at the ready (especially if that one attacker has evasion or Trample).
I was playing in a Legacy tournament several years ago. I was playing Abzan Loam against UG Infect. Game 3, we both mulligan to five cards. I had Qasali Pridemage and a Mirran Crusader, and my opponent had 2 Noble Hierarchs. I attack for 6 (Exalted plus Double Strike) which is unblockable due to the protection from green. My opponent then swings with one of the Hierarchs (I’m at 16 life), and he has three cards in hand. I don’t block, because it would just be a chump block due to double exalted. What were his three cards: Berserk, Berserk, Berserk. 😅
My very first semi-serious deck was mono-black Exalted, right after RTR came out. I didn't even get the precon, I just rocked with what I had. Playsets of Duty-Bound Dead and Knight of Infamy, a promo copy of Cathedral of War, a single Desecration Demon as my curve-topper, some Tormented Souls to help push early damage, and most importantly, four Vampire Nighthawks - to this day, one of my favorite creatures of all time. It wasn't a great deck, but I won about as many games as I lost.
Its hilarious that knight of infamy sees play in vintage. Like slash panther, I guess it shows how important context is to evaluating a card's strength
ahhh this brings me back i made a black and white exalted deck in high school was pretty proud of it but then I gave it to new player to keep not sure why
agree, though exalted might be hard to balance propperly on some permanents, like lands. EDIT: forgot about stuff like cathedral of war and ardent plea.
5:13 This one is interesting, if it were a 3/4 instead of a 4/3 then it might be good enough for Modern, especially nowadays with Bowmasters, Ajani and Amped Raptor.
Shame about Neo-Kami's Samurai's pseudo Exalted not panning out. The idea of the mechanic shifting to alternative effects besides buffs was neat, but it was just too low powered and specific. The single best Samurai from the set didn't even care about attacking alone, just any attacking triggers, meaning you'd rather pair him up with just about anything else than his own creature type.
Both cards used to be MUCH higher when the game wasn't about combo'ing off on turn 3. Noble Heirarch isn't quite one of the few cards to ever crack $100, but it's gotten fairly close before.
Ahhhh Exalted, I've honestly not used many cards with it, except Cathedral of War in my 99 lands EDH meme jank. While I don't think it would make it onto "Top 10 Vintage Cards (Minus Power 9)", it's definitely an exalted land amongst the many lands I enjoy.
I'm curious how Exalted would synergize with Banding. Would two creatures that are banded both get the +1/+1 or would only one? Or would the effect count them as two creatures?
Exalted always bothered me as a keyword. Flavourwise, it makes little sense that an Exalted creature pumps itself. It should be called "Exalt" and say "Whenever another creature…"

I know it's for the sponsor but I gotta say I really liked seeing you at the beginning of the vid. Just made it feel nicer overall.
😆
I used to always show up at the beginning of my top 10s. Maybe I'll try bringing it back.
Bring it back!
I loved it too. Nizza, the shirt is kick ass by the way.
@@NizzahonMagicdo it!!!❤
Mechanics like exalted are just such simple little feel goods. gotta love it

Coolest standard deck with Rafiq that I saw made the pro tour top 8.
T1: Noble Hierarch
T2: Doran, the Siege Tower
T3: Rafiq, attack for 14
😂
Didn't have a Teeka's Dragon though...
I actually forgot Qasali Pridemage existed, and I loved that card.
Something about Shards of Alara. I love thst set. One of my favorites

BROOOOO that’s an amazing story
@@starmanda88 Would you have blocked? 😂
I’ve told several people this story and received vastly varying opinions.
@@crawdaddy2004no I would not have blocked most likely

Your shirt is genuinely pretty sick.
I would love a return to Alara. Can't believe it's been 16 years already!

Gonna be that one mana dork
Whenever Nizzahon uploads a video alone, it gets +1 like.
Exalted is an underutilized keyword imo. It’s not a too powerful effect and it could be stapled on basically any permanent

Sublime archangel is... sublime indeed 🧐
interesting you did this mechanic. I just bought cards at the begining of the year to try to make an exalted deck.
Always loved exalted. Rafiq of the Many is one of the cards that made me interested in mtg.
5:13 This one is interesting, if it were a 3/4 instead of a 4/3 then it might be good enough for Modern, especially nowadays with Bowmasters, Ajani and Amped Raptor.
Chejop Kejak was originally going to be on this list, but everyone forgot he had a magic card. Not even Nizzahon can remember him.
So i actually have a few WG Exaulted decks i originally made it with Wandering Wolf and eventually Lightmine Field
I like that shirt! thanks for the videos!

Loved exalted during shards limited
I don't usually go to sponsors, but I want that shirt.
That shirt is dope I need it
Exalted sounds like a retrain of Banding.
I'm exalted, maybe I should sleep.
take a shot for every random dinky creature with Pro White that's on one of these lists because it was sideboarded against Mono W Initiative
Ayyyy the face is back!!
Also Knight of Infamy being playable in Vintage is actually blowing my mind
You know saying what % of the cards have any points at all will also give us an idea of the videos gimmick power level.
In CEDH Rafiq is #1 of course, and with him commanding an exalted deck you'd better watch out for some ridiculous attacks.
Akrasan squire not getting enough love even at pauper?
NO SURPRISE that Noble Hierarch is the Top 1... hopefully we MIGHT get a a Temur, and Sultai version of the Noble Hierarch.
Give me a Naya version!
I'm surprised Ignoble Hierarch is only $3 when Noble is $12.
Both cards used to be MUCH higher when the game wasn't about combo'ing off on turn 3. Noble Heirarch isn't quite one of the few cards to ever crack $100, but it's gotten fairly close before.
Way never and MH is always printed to hell and back
It's Noble Hierarch right? Like, it has to be.
Edit:
Ayyyy, easy predict.
Turn one, ill play the noblest of hierarchs

It's two attacking creatures. Exalted does not trigger.
Finally. My fav mechanic
noble hierarch... isn't of the noble type! 😅
A person can be noble without being a noble.
Pog

Nah
@@i_am_geistIt’d be a much worse mechanic but they’re right that it _is_ a flavor fail. Should have been named a little differently.
