Slow but steady progress. Ive been playing the Duke it Out build a lot and despite the fact that it’s still very janky, it’s surprisingly fun and replayable. Really excited to see the next chapter. Please don’t lose the momentum you guys have! 🙏
Ain't no way it's already been a year since the leak... I'll be damned... So happy for all of the work you all are putting into this project. Ya'll are genuinely my heroes for making this restoration. Thank you so much!
Congratulations on 1 year!! Let's just hope we don't have 14 more of them :) Appreciate all the hard work and effort you all have put into this. This is going to be a great game!
I would just like to thank the devs here for putting their time and effort into making this piece of gaming history playable for us, dedicating their time and effort. Its one of the main reasons i love modding/ independant devs. We might never see the full extent of the game as the original devs wanted (unless we get the GDD somehow too ) but this is still as close as we will get and once more, id like to thank the devs
Thank you for all the work you've put into this game! It's really appreciated. The masses need to see what Duke's big return wa meant to look like! Also...Yeah, bring in AI partner Shelly! Can't wait to see what cool stuff you have planned next!
Everyone involved in this should be very very proud. I remember watching the trailers 20+ years ago. I love what the community can achieve when they work together - well done to you all!
I only learned about the leak today and couldn't believe what I saw and started to process. Downloaded it, started to play - and - I'm so,so happy . After 26ish years since Duke Nukem 3D, finally it is the game, it should always have been. You nailed it. Thanks to everyone involved for putting in the time and effort
I'm so happy you guys are doing this. It always made me a bit sad that if 3D Realms had just stayed the course under that first Unreal Engine iteration, the game would have aged like fine wine. There's a lot of great stuff on that build, and seeing a team dedicated to restoring the Duke to his former glory warms my heart. Can't wait to get some, and my best wishes to the team!
What made me sad playing the DNF we got was that it felt like they thought the success of DN3D was due to Duke and the vulgar humour rather than just being a great FPS first and foremost. Just to be clear, I didn't even find DNF awful, just exceptionally average. Even worse in some ways - nothing to be especially remembered for, after such a long wait.
So good, can't believe it's already been one year. Keep up the good work. It's great to see this project continue improving bit by bit with an incredible team at the wheel!
I just became aware of this project yesterday. DL'd 1st slice. Thanks so much for all the efforts of all involved. I am so stoked for this. Hail to the King baby!
One year, and so much progress has been made. Keep up the good work. I don't get hyped for games much anymore, but the end result of this project is the exception to that. I think I can speak for all fans of the The King when I say thank you for working to make this dream a reality.
Amazing work guys, thank you so much for delivering us the Duke Nukem Forever early 2000s experience that we were promised, as I said earlier can't wait until the game is completed. Will be awesome to livestream how great it's gonna be.
damn you guys are legend! I wish the original devs stick with this engine instead of constantly trying to upgrade it, it absolutely looks beautiful to me and has "Duke" feel to it.
This is such a cool project but also labor intensive im sure. I love the Unreal 1 engine. DNF wouldve been a great game if i had come out in the early 2000s. Instead of being UE3 and dull looking with strange contrast (either too dark or too bright, in my opinion). :)
Release version is still UE1. 3D Realms just basically completely re wrote the renderer. But under the hood it's UE 1 build 400. Can easily tell by downloading the level editor that works with the retail release. Heck you can open some maps from the 2001 leak and play them in the release build! (as long as the 2001 map doesn't have any movers which will crash the game)
great stuff... wouldnt it be possible to get some of the old developers involved? Like to finish all of it as it was intended? Im sure when u start a kickstarter to pay them and they sign on, this would turn out to be massive. It would be an awesome collaboration ... all together to release the duke everyone has been waiting for 20 years
Hi guys, from what I can understand you use Dx9 wrappers, will it be possible to play the game on a retro Pentium III PC for example? I would love to play the game on hardware from the era it should have been played in. Thank you for your great work!
CPU shouldn't be a problem. But being able to run the game depends on the OS, as the current release was built with win10 sdk. A version that works for XP is in the works
@@Halfded54 Thanks for the info, good to know, still holding out hope for Win98SE... Maybe even Win2000 Professional if being NT based would make it easier
Yes. So is the final release. You can load maps from the 2001 leak in the retrial build map editor, compile, and play them lol. It's crazy. 3D Realms basically completely re-wrote the renderer. But it's VERY much UE 1.
In the latest public build, multiplayer and the first chapter of single player (the Vegas part). The rest of the stuff is from the leak and mostly as is. Though you can easily tell they have already gotten a lot of work done looking at other versions of some maps later in the single player in the map editor.
can you put optional point of directions of where to go and what to do because it happens sometimes and not knowing what to do or where to go can makes a game not fun.
We will have to review the idea of an objective marker. Not something we had in mind at the moment. As for objectives there is a dedicated button to bring up the objectives anytime and we update them frequently through the levels to help guide you!
It's on moddb. It's a project by fans to finish the leaked build of DNF 2001. This is a WIP build. MP works. As for single player, the first chapter (vegas) is done. The rest is still WIP.
It's in the works. Looking at the donkey in this build compared to the leak they have added/fixed several animations etc. And you can see some early work being done on that section when you look at it in the map editor etc.
What worries me it is that basically there is no content after the first two-three episodes in the demo. The rest is almost non-existent and devs have to do a LOT of work. I hope this will require less than a decade.
There are dif versions of some of the single player maps in the maps folder that you can only view/play by opening with duke-ed. They are WIP of course but much more work put into them compared to the leaked version/state. Along with new textures, fixed textures, animations (like for the donkey) etc. I'm sure the internal build is further along than we would guess.
Slow but steady progress. Ive been playing the Duke it Out build a lot and despite the fact that it’s still very janky, it’s surprisingly fun and replayable. Really excited to see the next chapter. Please don’t lose the momentum you guys have! 🙏
Really hope to see a lot of single player progress now that multiplayer is done. Lookin forward to this more than any AAA game
You said it, long live Duke Nukem!
It was the AAA in 2001
But due to someone being someone, didnt become a thing in the end.
Ain't no way it's already been a year since the leak... I'll be damned...
So happy for all of the work you all are putting into this project.
Ya'll are genuinely my heroes for making this restoration. Thank you so much!

Honestly the premise of a complete release or hell even a new chapter update from you guys is more exciting than any upcoming games.
Thank you for all the work you've put into this game! It's really appreciated. The masses need to see what Duke's big return wa meant to look like!
Also...Yeah, bring in AI partner Shelly! Can't wait to see what cool stuff you have planned next!
Judging from the latest public build and looking at stuff in duke-ed etc I think they plan to do so
This is such an awesome project, thanks for all your tireless work and efforts. Happy 1 Year Anniversary!

There were tears in my eyes when I saw the title on my screen it is like when y found the forgotten photo of your bright moments in your life.
No way that it’s already been a year?? I can’t wait to see the second chapter ❤
You guys have done an absolutely stellar job over the past year! Can't wait to see what you have in store for future updates!

get the Duke-It-Out standalone release, it's much more updated, and got bugfixes for the singleplayer bugs in the first slice

Happy anniversary, guys!
The First Slice has been a treat of 2022, I look forward to each update you guys make more than 95% of the AAA market. You're pretty good!
I'm genuinely so excited for the prospect of playing this. It just has this allure that I can't describe but im so hyped.
absolutely love how you've been piecing it all together while staying true to the original. 👏👏
Glad to see all the progress that's been made, I was apart of the story team until leaving back in July due to being to busy. Best of luck.

I like how this is destined to become another 14 year long project.

Nice stuff. I look forward to trying this out one day.
Incrível o trabalho de vocês caras 👏👏😁.
Wow guys, I can see the effort and what it has cost you, just one question.
Keep up the amazing work! Thank you!
en efecto, es cine🍷
Eagerly awaiting more content updates
Thank you for making this a reality! ❤
This rocks :) voice acting is good too n weapons are kick ass
Hail to the king, baby!
Y'all busting ass on this project! Let's rock!
maybe in one year this will be the duke nukem we expected back in the day, still better than the 2010 release to be honest
The only thing I would dare to change from the original vision of the game is the pitch black zones where you need to use night vision.
There are some areas like that but the night vision is FAR less annoying than it is in DNF retail.
Keep it up, the Duke deserves better than Cranky Titchford!
Amazing work guys
You're doing Duke's work.
It's been a year?
Amazing stuff.
Awesome progress!
Man I wish we had late 2002, last build with this engine leaked. SO much work done on that one supposedly
Крутая игра,не выпустить игру в свет для разработчиков было ошибкой. 👍🔥🔥🔥
as they say: 'the king lives!'

great work guys keep it up

I legit have been trying to get this to work and I don’t know how to run the game. But looks cool as hell.

They are also providing a OpenGL Renderer. Some effects don't work with it right now but they have said they will continue to improve it.
is it the first unreal engine ?
yeah, first unreal engine, but with some ue2 changes that were backported by 3dr
