Maybe do the Flinders Ranges, Kings Canyon, then Kakadu before you head west from Darwin for the remainder of the lap to Perth. Those would all definitely be better with something a bit more off-road than a 2WD Mazda. No need to be a 4WD expert, you can still avoid the rough tracks. But for example the road you accidentally took west of Alice can be done in a 2WD but would be more comfy in something with a little bit more clearance (4WD or AWD). Hope your budget is up to it and you get a long visa again!

With the fridge, give it a clean out, then put a very small bowl of bicarbonate of soda in the fridge on a permanent basis. The bicarbonate will absorb the smells that the cleaning won't get rid of.

Taking a campervan across the Kimberley’s and the Pilbara in Western Australia would be awesome. I have just finished a road trip to the Grampians from Newcastle via the backroads and it was such a great experience. I don’t know if a campervan would survive the Gibb River road from Kununurra to Broome but the scenery is spectacular. Also you have to experience the float plane trip out of Broome to the Horizontal Falls. It is one the most amazing things I have experienced in my life.

I’ve always thought Tia was an amazing artist. You are so blessed to be able to use your talent. I think people not seeing the beauty in any land is knowing the history of the land. I always picture the people that came before. American native villages in the shade of cottonwoods along a waterway with their herds of hundreds of horses. White invaders with only their 2 wheeled carts holding everything they owned going across the country. Families following wagons pulled by oxen. Having to keep moving no matter how close women were to giving birth etc.

Great to see you are coming back to Australia! Tia’s art is amazing. You should do an exhibition sometime, although I can see how that would be tricky when you’re travelling. 😊 🇦🇺

Guys great to hear that you are going to finish your big lap we were actually only a couple of weeks in front of you and were lucky enough to get across the river before the crossing was washed out. Keep in mind travelling the west coast at the time of year you will likely encounter wind and if you travel north to south like we did it seemed to be always a headwind from Broome to Margaret River. You would be better with a cheap campervan than a car as dsitances between towns can be huge and as you know free camping can be a little rough up that way in a tent. Watch the Philly and Keely videos and have a look what they are doing with a cheap campervan they bought and fitted out themselves. They also travel on a very limited budget and have been travelling in Australia for a few months they are currently in Tasmania but will be going home soon as apparently their tourist visa is running out. Good luck and safe travels I hope this trip goes well and that your plans for Australia come to fruition. Next Sunday we will be heading over to the Eyre Peninsular in South Australia then up to Uluru before coming back to the central coast of NSW via outback Queensland - the dry season is here and so its time to head out again. Backpackers reguarly sell cheap campervans to other backpackers at the end of their road trips. That part of Arizona definatley gives me the Kimberley and northern Western Australia vibe.
