You can speed up the whole 2 day thing by using the boss summon early. This wait was actually implemented so players going in blind had time to gather night-exclusive resources as night doesn’t fall again until after you beat warrior of light. As for why first starfarer took so long, there’s a couple reasons. A: you never touched the stellar foci system. Those grant you buffs in subworlds, one of which being more damage. The boss is still beatable in a reasonable time without them however. B: The big thing is you not using stellar novas. You get a really broken one after warrior of light, but any of them would have sped the fight up immensely. C: there are some really good stars above weapons post-moon lord that you just didn’t craft. D: you barely touched the weapon memory system. While most have a downside, each class has one that’s just free extra damage, sold by that modded NPC. E: kind of expanding on stellar novas, those prisms heavily modify its stats to increase crit rate, crit damage, regular damage, reduce charge time, etc as well as provide neat extra effects. Most can be found in the neon veil in the underworld…which you didn’t find as far as I can tell, which is mind boggling as it typically spawns close to the center of the underworld, and it’s quite large too. F: you slept on the stellar array. Some of those are genuinely insane, from turning mana in extra health, healing from huge hits instead of dying, increased stellar nova recharge rate, you get the idea. That final fight was the culmination of consequences for every mechanic you ignored. Look, I get it, stars above isn’t like the average terraria mod, but if you’re gonna showcase it, you might have to read a text box or two to learn about these mechanics.
this is genuinely one of the most beautiful and cinematic terraria mods to ever be released, I didn't know terraria could do this but props to the devs. best 45 mins spent
I freaking love Stars Above, and I cannot wait for it to go even further beyond. Edit: 42:40 man questioning if this can't be sped up while reading on-screen that it cannot be sped up for the record, the reason it can't be sped up is because the "2 day wait" im pretty sure is a Debuff. You have to wait for the Debuff to get removed, basically.
33:12 Basically, the boss has an attack at the end where she just teleports you a certain distance from where you're standing. You can see where you're gonna be teleported to thanks to that circle to the side of your character. Also I think the circle itself indicates which color to go to.
34:00 It took me ages to figure this out but there is an attack that comes and there is a circle of particles that is connected to you with a string of particles farther away that after a bit teleports you to that circle you can see it at this time stamp and it is going to teleport you over to yellow, so what you have to do is get that circle in the color you are coloured because chances are that you are going to be teleported when the colours go off. this attack dosen't always happen so don't look for it too long when the colours come up and get yourself killed.
This is one of those mods for people who are hardcore gamers (unironically). Stemming from old school Tab Target MMOs, with Final Fantasy 14 being a major inspiration, hence the fights having a lot of MMO style mechanics and "read your tooltips" being a baseline for understanding the mod. I feel like if someone doesn't play a TON of games / engage with a lot of gaming related media often, a lot of the fanservice and details of how things work in the mod will just fly over their heads, making the experience less enjoyable. There's an obscene amount of IPs that are referenced. From the last time I played through this with a friend so we could see all of the weapons, the ones I recognized were... Hollow Knight, Dark Souls, Xenoblade, NieR Automata, Lobotomy Corp, Library of Ruina, Delta Rune, Monster Hunter, Tales of Arise, Arknights, Genshin Impact, Girls Frontline, Dragalia Lost (miss this game still, RIP) Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, Punishing Gray Raven, Guilty Gear, Persona 5, Honkai Impact, Fate Stay Night, Touhou, Castlevania, Super Mario Galaxy, Team Fortress 2, Fire Emblem, Counterside, Destiny, Epic 7, Guardian Tales, Roblox, Devil May Cry, League of Legends, The Elder Scrolls, a slew of Hololive Vtuber references, and of course, Final Fantasy 14. Heck the whole interstellar travel system is a little nod to Starbound, Terraria's ill begotten cousin. If you recognize and have played most of the IPs referenced in this mod, the entertainment value it provides is unmatched by anything else the Terraria modding community has to offer. My first time through was magical as nearly every new weapon I got from the mod had me mega hyped up. Collecting all the weapons became a big part of the experience just to see all the references. It definitely has a target audience.
37:43 "who can manage all these abilities amidst a bullet hell?" Let me introduce you to Final fantasy 14 as well as most mmos and rpg games! (is a level 80 red mage who dies to mechanics because my eyes are more glued to the hotbar than the fight)
I remember watching the start of the livestream and just shouting at Throarbin in chat that he's misunderstood the mechanics, and I just couldn't understand how he kept getting something wrong when it was explicitly stated in-game and in-chat. I know that it happens to literally everyone who is learning something in a livestream, but it still makes no sense how it's possible. Also, the mod is really fun, and I would recommend playing Remnants next. I've played it, and the map generation is amazing. I normally dislike exploration in Terraria because it feels boring, but that mod made it so much cooler.
13:20 bro just click once. If its showing that there is a number, that means its active. Also: some weapons Have Calamiy recipes, as well as unique dialog for each ine of them. There is just one problem: the new update structure can cut off Brimstone Crag, so be careful about that.
I loved this mod, and it scales with calamity (intentionally), but I also play a lot of RPGs and am cool with reading dialogue and tootlips. I def think its a mod for a specific kind of person though.
yes there are better weapons and yes some weapons are a lot better from vanilla ones the mecahnics are just hard to grasp since we are already hardwired to not have that much mechanics for one weapon
Someone didn't craft Bury the Light. And on second thought, seeing how this went, maybe don't check out Metroid Mod. It doesn't have anything like Stars Above's tootlips but it does have unique systems and I fear that you'll still manage to make it look bad.
Unique systems are not necessarily an issue as long as there is a brief explanation as to how they work. Too many words and I've either zoned out or forgotten most of it and no explanation and I'm going to be so stuck in Terraria logic I may not be able to figure out the mod's logic.
I modmix. Not recommended, but this mod is always in every combination. It's just cool. Also, the bosses seem to have RDR, such that using insanely powerful weapons still won't oneshot them.

Ah so that last boss (ok not last, the one that took 2 days/cheat) is just an Final Fantasy / FFXIV reference? That's definitely a limit break noise, the telegraph / cast bars are very final fantasy - WoL's lines sound somewhat identical to the same boss in FFXIV :P (And a funny haha: Oh yeah the long tooltips are also very FF14)
When I played this mod I chose the other one and after Skeletron Prime I got a crazy weapon called Hullwrought that you can charge up to shoot a crazy bolt that can 1-shot EoC.
You are not supposed to be able to mine anything in any subworld and yet you did because you had the potion for breaking things in an area 3x3 which messes with the subworld no-breaking rule
Yeah, maybe this mod is best played alongside another mod with that as the focus instead as you focused completely on this mod and didn't let things progress naturally and missed some key steps Also the weapons are gimicky; I tend not to use the majority of them either tho they seem interesting. That's why some of my mandatory and favorite mods are Spirit Mod and Thorium Mod, no funky anime shenanigans.
