For developer who would probably remake this game again in the future, here's slightly better controls for you: up: forward down: backward left: left right: right R1/R2: ascend L1L2: descend

If you think about the level in parts, it would make sense that one set of buttons controls the 2D directions (up down left right) and another set controls the 3D directions (Forward and backward) Sure, the controls suck, but the problem won't be fixed by just changing the buttons. You'd have to rework everything.

It's not about just "logical" consistency (i.e. one set of buttons for X/Y axises and another for Z axis), but rather intuition (i.e. up/down buttons have controlled Z axis movement for the entire game, so why wouldn't they now?)
Most likely because there was no joystick support in crash 2 iirc and they wanted to stay true to the original. They controls are meh when you get used to them though

It should say 25/39 before you hit the green exclamation box, if it doesn't read that then you've missed one.
