I must be the only one that wants Ash with May. She was never bossy (like Misty) or clingy (like Serena). I never saw a connection between him and Dawn or Iris.
Ash and May are so alike. He wants to be the best Pokémon master and she wants to be the best coordinator. A lot of their Pokémon were the same as well, such as bulbasaur and squirtle. They even share half a ribbon that they both consider a lucky charm!

i thought you'd realize that Ash lost to trip in that respective battle because everything with the involvement of BW was a soft-reset ergo Ash never had any experience in pretty much any field of pokemon prior to that match.
secondly,dawn defeated may because on a spectrum of pure natural talent she supersedes her,not by a long shot mind you but just enough to do the job,the inclusion of this said natural talent in and of themselves found within both may and dawn is something not shared with serena.

Amourshipping is the best ship for me because Serena is the one of few companions deeply cared Ash. Their childhood backstory about how they met, Serena help Ash for training after he lost the first battle against Viola, Serena's motivation to become a Kalos Queen because of Ash's mantra quote, their argument after Ash and Greninja split up after their lost to 8th Kalos Gym Leader & the kiss at the end. No offense to Misty, May and Dawn but they more just a friends to Ash.
Misty was cold and a bit of temper whenever someone(or in this case, Psyduck) made fun of her or the time she literally "stole" the egg from Ash which hatches into Togepi and became her own(Ash was originally the one owned Togepi since he is the one hold the egg for a long time), May was a confident, good person but has a love-hate relationship with her rival Drew & Dawn is more like sibling figure to Ash. Anyways, these are my opinions about Pokegirls and I have nothing against them. And don't get me started to Lillie and Chloe. 😒
First, i'd like to say that the only reason you think Ash and Misty won't end up together is because she hasn't been on the show for a long time, that reason is super weak and if she was a more recent character she would probably be the best match for Ash since they have feelings for each other.
Anyway, I don't think Ash will end up with anybody but if the writers suddenly decide that they want Ash to have a girlfriend it would be Misty. He showed many signs of affection towards her but he was too immature to realise he liked her. He barely showed any romantic signs towards other Pokegirls plus Pokeshipping is the OTP. Many people think Ash likes Serena because his eyes sparkled when she kissed him but seriously. If a person kissed you, your eyes would probably 'sparkle' too. He was just surprised.Also, it is canon that Misty has a crush on Ash because she has many songs that are just about her wanting to be with Ash for example in the 'Christmas Bash' song Misty says that the only thing on her christmas list is a dance with Ash and in 'Mistys song' the whole song is about her wanting to confess. Another thing is that I think a character like Serena whos only driving force is a little crush is lame and forced at the same time.

At the end of Sun and Moon, we do see Misty again, but only for 2 episodes. I think Ash will end up with Serena, because she is the only character who (other than Ash) got a figure made after her. Also, a lot of the previous characters Ash could've ended up with were repeated in a series, so I think Serena will come in season 3 of Alola. And, she was the only female role with Ash to have ever not have all 6 Pokémon(Iris doesn't count). And, if you go back on a few episodes, Pikachu and Buneary arn't the only Pokémon in a ship. In XY (I can't remember which season) Frokie and Finaken do show some romantic things. And, Frokie and Finaken are both the trainers first Pokémon from that region. In Alola, there are many girls who have had ship moments, but those were brushed off, and never really repeated. Serena is most likely to end up with Ash, and also probably the fan favorite. Serena has always been my favorite, I've watched the series with her 7 times. Serena also has more effort put into her than most of the girls. She is also the only one to have a special bond with a Pokémon that she didn't start with, or raise from an egg. I could keep going, and have this comment be extremely long, but I think you get the idea.

1. The only time i saw Ash blushing was when team rocket tried to teased ash and misty by saying that are they lovers?
2. Ash showed jealousy when misty was with another guy.
