  • The overdevelopment of wind turbines in Moycullen has drastically altered the once scenic landscape, now transformed into an industrial sea of wind turbines that dominate the horizon and tower over local communities.
The wind energy guidelines state that wind energy developments in these landscapes should be relatively small in terms of spatial extent and it is important they do not dominate but achieve a balance with their surrounds, especially considering that small fields and houses are prevalent. They further state great caution should be exercised and the spatial enclosure often found in these landscapes is likely to preclude the possibility of seeing additional wind every development.
There are multiple wind farms in the area already with 128 cumulative turbines: Ardderroo, Seecon, Cloosh, Uggool, Knockalough, Lettergunnet, Lettercraffroe, Letterpeck, and Inverin.
The volume of turbines and impact on the community and landscape is already excessive. Galway County Council and An Bord Pleanala should ensure no further adverse impacts are permitted.
