- Soo fun to try out the Gelande II Land Rover Defender D90 Heritage Edition scale trail truck from RC4WD. This is one of my first "scalers" - a scale replica of a D90 that Land Rover released in 2015 to commemorate the last year of production for the original Defender. In this video, I go over the features, test it out on my backyard crawler course, and share my initial impressions. What do you think? Are you into scale replicas? I think Defender lovers and RC hobbyists are really going to dig this!

The Gelande II is what first piqued my interest in scale crawlers. It looks and drives beautifully. I've had a number of real Land Rovers. I got an entry level FJ40 Cruiser though which I've turned into a replica of one I had many years ago. Great fun. Thanks RCG - great review. I may save up for this one now.

Loved the video. Think the rig looks great. I’m so sad that Land Rover stopped production of this Defender style in 2015. At least we can have our RC scalers🙂!

I love it! Color is unfortunate, used to work on a fleet of trucks and equipment, all that color...Body style's awesome, nice scale design. You may have showed me my replacement rig. Couple of mods and maybe an fpv cam on the driver's seat...Saweeeeet! I will have to run her though, not a shelf queen. Thanks for staying awesome. Be well and stay safe.

Great review, nice truck. I've been wanting to see one up close. The axles and diff seem really sleek and probably are welcome seeing how there are no portals. Sometimes that stuff is way out of scale and big on smaller crawlers. Nice one!

Thank you for reviewing it love the little pickup style and thank you driving like a scale rig should be driving and love body roll action too and cool idea feature would be Rc4wd fj40 body style fit has the same wheelbase and chassis so change out the body and bumpers and best both worlds or one body save for concourse or trailer queen and other for scale driving. Just a idea and thought thank Andre Wamsley it’s great see different wheel bases for different styles of trucks👍

Thanks, I shoot in 60fps and downsample to 24fps so it slows the footage down to realistic speed. (Tip from @scalebuildersguild !)

Dang I love how it’s a mixture of the precise detailing you get from a 1:12 scale diecast car model and a remote control car as well!...I’ve been looking to put something like that together (I recently checked out 1:10 scale doors with movable windows-but unfortunately it’s for a specific car model 🤷🏽♂️)

That’s very cool indeed! I just ordered the kit version of that rig, I got the choice to either make it a wagon like yours of full covered top. I’m going for the heritage grasmere green version with the full top, I also ordered the grasmere green heritage wheels to go with it. I can’t wait to get it and start building it!👌😎👍great video!

Hello! I saw that the Gelande II has an exposed main motor gear. How does it support the sand and the mud in the motor gear? Does it jam? Does it have problems with that?

Thanks! Picked up a nice camera last year and now also using premiere for editing, so way more features and higher quality footage to use! And thanks for your tip way back when about shooting in high frame rate and converting to 24fps for getting more realistic movement. ;)

Hmmm not sure yet... Driver I think? It might be time to go that far! 😆 Someone also suggested weighting the front wheels. We'll see after I've had more trail time with it

Fantastic in-depth review! Good choice on the classic green colour. If I were to give one suggestion, please include some unedited footage of the models as you run it along with the cool slow-mo stuff. It would really help me understand how it functions in real-time. Oh, and for a future video suggestion... how do you keep calm when working on your R/C goes horribly wrong. I was upgrading /repairing my Bomber today when I noticed so many issues with how it was built (I bought it used) that I almost took a hammer to it (j/k but I was mega pissed off). How do you approach challenging/difficult R/C stuff? Btw do you play guitar I keep seeing some Strats up on the wall. 🎸😂🤘

Hello!, what's the name or code of the tires?, because in rc4wd's page I find a model of 3,85" of OD instead of 3,5". I would like to get a tire of 3,5".

Got to love a D90. The wheels should be body colour you might want to change them. Too nice to take out if i had one it'll live on a shelf which defeats having one !

nice video I have the red and black version of this truck and i don't know if your aware of this but the truck doesn't come with thread lock from the factory so id recommend putting thread lock on the bolts especially the drive shaft pins as mine kept coming loose

I’m an issue with mine, the screw on the servo’s horn is scraping on the servo’s bottom plate and the frame of the chassis. Anyone else having the same issue?
Gotta love a Defender ...been in enough of them in Sri Lanka as well as 1st Gen Pajeros and land cruisers etc...brilliant machines that go anywhere...but bouncy as hell if you're a passenger hahaha...You should get a scale 3d printed version of yourself and pop it inside 😉😎
I think as scale rc goes nothing beats vehicles like this. Love the details of the cabin as well as on the outeside. All we need is for someone to bring out a Suzuki Jimny shell and you can switch between the two.
Will you leave the shell as it is or are you going to do that 'rust/patina' effect that seems to be all the rage at the mo?
