For pve id give it a 10 but for pvp i need to see tuning and how it plays in 2s, probably a 7-8 since long arm is so peepee but it's still got spellwarden and decently fun custom builds
5/10, feels like BFA where they took away things that we've baseline, or most of the expansion, then you only get to choose 4 out of the 7 things you had all at once before. Simple thing to do is just bring back WOD ret. We had everything back then.
5/10 super lazy by just removing all of our baseline utility and locking it in the tree. There are some interesting things in the ret tree, but the general class tree is garbage. Steed of shame still exists, seals don't exist. Another xpac of suffering pepehands. Like I look at some of the other talent trees they've released like druid/shaman/rogue, and I just ask why would I ever play paladin.
Watching this feels like I'm talking to my friend who plays paladin as well shooting the sht and wishing for all the old talents to magically be brought back at once
Imagine a passive ability that upon reaching 5 holy power they basically get an emancipation (cleansing a slow) and gives them a 10 or 20% movement speed boost for 2 seconds. You reach the maximum amount of holy power that your holy vessel can hold, and the light burns through you and cleanse you of all that is not the light.
In terms of PvE my concern is what would ret bring to the table that other classes don't. So far some classes have got some nutty buffs for the team like rogues providing dmg reduction and cooldown reduction so theres nothing really that stands out for the ret that was flavor to it. Getting long arm back is pretty cool even though its a weaker version but I guess its better than nothing.
If you don't have a prot or holy pally you bring devo aura which in itself is worth bringing. Granted this requires Ret to be good from a tuning stand point or prot and holy to be bad.
About the "3 yards lol" thing. It feels exceptionally good on a rogue. I'd go as far as to make all melee classes 8 yards baseline. But this paladin talent is bad not because of the distance, it's the stupid ass condition. Just make it passive 3 yards, like the rogue. Ret instantly would feel so much better, I assure you Savix
I’m saying all this from the perspective of warrior main. With only a few hundred hours on Ret in arena. If you have played swtor the 8yard ‘effectively’ thing has been done (movement relative to scale is much faster so melee range is quite forgiving) I think it’s better to give each spec the identity. On rogue 3 yards is amazing because you open from stealth have 2 mobility CDs that are superior, vanish resets them, oh and slow uptime is 100% if you are hitting your target some. Additionally outlaw has the ranged pistol shot with a mini slow. It’s the only rogue spec that has the 3 yard if memory serves. For the other rogue specs they have ranged kick/stun due to shadow step+x, and outlaw can do some wild drive by kidney shots that are creamy. Ret without help will still be the least mobile melee with lower uptime than every other class. Simply due to have no great moving Cds that aren’t counterable. If they combine the 3 yards with something like: Judgement gives you 2seconds of hand of freedom and hand of freedom is now 40% movement for Ret with two charges, then I would say Ret, warrior, and dk are compatibly mobile. (Fury has a large lead with the root breaks and banner and spammable slow, and crushing blow charge, but arms would feel similar) I think warrior monk, assa, and sub, and DK should stay without any extra range to melee swings due to having spammable slows, and many gap closing options. Ret, while sitting in this wheel chair simply watches hunters, druids, rogues, and hilariously even warriors escape death because it has no way to connect and 3yard melee would do little on its own, but would be great with some other help. Giving other melee this option will also really hurt and cause bonkers trinkets to be allowed into the game again like early season 3 and nobody wants to see that I think.
Love the content, I think both McCool and Savix have important insight from two perspectives. One thing I will say is that the talent tree is now the whole leveling experience. A lot of "baseline" spells on the tree make a lot more sense from the perspective of a new leveling player.
Every time I see a new expansion, it makes me miss WoD ret more and more... That was peak ret. They could make it so Repentance is instant, that would solve the issue of not having a ranged kick, at least you can interrupt with an instant cc.
Here's a talent that would have been usefull for all the damn concencration. Make it move with the paladin. Forcing others to avoid the paladin while it's up at the same time increase its dmg but also increase the cd. Edit: the increased cd is to balance out the dmg. If per sat you had a concencration on you up it would do enough damage to warrant staying away from the paladin it would be busted to have it constantly up. As it stands concencration has a cd that allows you too keep it up at all times. It would be complained about being too strong and nerfed instantly on the first patch. As for the trailing behind a paladin, I wouldn't implement that excuse it would add much to the kit. Just makes chasing a paladin hard, you should be chased as a paladin. The idea of this talent would be to turn concencration into a "aura like" aggressive ability. As a implementation of the paladin emitting such a strong holy aura that it hurts just to be near them.

They should give holy avenger a passive effect where u get 6 holy power max, so u can double templar and so the triple holy power doesnt constantly overcap
I love how this discussion goes all through valid points like "wtf is this mandatory 3 points everywhere" or "wtf is this 2% haste" to "I think wings should turn us into Tyraael and let us throw a spear impaling 3 people against a wall!" hehe
Hear me out here but if Execution sentence while on a target leaves a trail of consecration and if you run on it you gain increased movement speed now that's an actual execution sentence right there and also add like a consecration trail to tempest of the light bringer and with all the consecration spawning abilities they already have, just make a node that's like while on consecrated ground move x amount faster
Glad to see this. I do hunter/pld and hunter trees got good massaging through out the first few weeks and what you said needs to be shifted makes a lot of sense for Ret. I hope they're listening.
you're on point on everyone having Slows in old school WoW classes who had slow had it because they were either glass canons that if enemy reached them they'd get deleted or someone like Shaman with a lack of mobility that needed to slow down opponents so they don't get kited, and even then the range for it was low and they'd spend a lot of Mana for that slow.
I think Savix is kind of missing the point with the "this should be in the paladin kit" remarks. Every class has core abilities that they need and identify through in the class tree. The class portion is not designed to offer supreme customizability and fancy extra for every point.
I need you to understand, they aren't a choice in something that's suppose to be a choice and customization thing. The core abilities that are there mean that the classes that don't have what has been gutted of their power, unless you (are forced to) take talents to feel half the impact of how you use too play. Either it be core or spec based talents they have removed core mechanics from abilities and abilities themselves and added them as talents. The wings talents are prime examples. As well as 90% of ret's tree, being just old stats for your rotation. We were hoping for variants in Playstation when it cane to your class. Not having to spend talents to just do bare bones rotational damage. This goes out to all classes not just paladin.
@@hervisdaubeny2591 the idea I think is along the lines of if you’re doing single target stuff, you can remove all your AoE, and have a stronger single target than ever, and vice versa, or you can mix and match and reach an old baseline. This class does it poorly, but Enhancement and Elemental shaman do this the best. Enhancement imo in particular does this the best.
I think the issue with the talent trees is that they made it to where you do not get any baseline skills after level 10 and everything you get beyond that point is strictly from the talent tree instead of how it used to be where you would learn class skills and still have the talent trees. I think that if all of the stuff we got from the talent trees was new powers and utility then the game would get very bloated or too “powerful”. While it may feel bad to talent into some of these thing because you already have them right now in the future as they expand the tree it will be really cool system imo. Obviously some of the placement and pathing and tuning needs to be fixed but I am excited about the talents
I think it’s a good system too for avoiding bloat, and hearing them complain about ‘baseline’ stuff being talents was kinda bleh. They had some great comments on other stuff, but every time they said that I just groaned, because the entire idea is (in theory) to have about 3-8 extra points at the end after getting all of your flat damage talents, to pick whatever is best for what you’re doing. Like the cleanse toxin thing, if you’re not fighting a class that it’s helpful for, it lets you remove that point and put it elsewhere. It’s supposed to allow for removing old baseline stuff for stuff you didn’t have before if it’s better for the situation.
an idea for the Consecration talent. What if Golden Path made Consecration stick to your character like an aoe circle around you, keep the healing part and make it heal for more
Madparagon affects Judgement both in dmaage in wings uptime as well. uptime should almost be the same retail if not more since you press them on cd anyways. and synergies with divine toll assuming you get an extra 2.5 second of wings because of that change
As a priest main (pally/shaman main alts) I can tell you they did the exact same thing to those classes as well. Basic spells are now in the utility trees for all the hybrid style classes, shamans for instance have to spec into double buff purge on top of not getting purge baseline so you need to spend 2 points and most of the priest hymns and half the prayers are talents now too. So you actually lose more class identity in place of distinct role specialization. Whether this is a good thing or not we won't know until we can raid test it to determine what is niche vs overall utility. I'm honestly a bit confused with the amount of talents geared towards consecration. It would make more sense if it was flat holy dmg but to stick so many modifiers on a single situation stationary spell is just weird.
I know they mentioned about not liking dots, but I think a great talent to have good synergy with all the new consecrate talents would be to have those hit with consecrate to keep the debuffs from it after they leave it as if they were still in it. Could be a pvp talent or something
100% agree with your philosophy on how Rets should play. Where they should do a little less damage, be a bit more tanky and be kind of an unstoppable force. And by that I mean harder to CC or with more options to cleanse CC. As you word it "play more like a normal class". That's my dream pally right there.
Remember back in like cata when we had a glyph I think that made it when we cast judgement, we gained movement speed? Something like that would be handy
You should make a 5 minute condensed video of things to change for the ret tree and share it on the forums. As much as I enjoyed this long video Blizzard probably wont even click on it xD
They should make Consecreate a "talent set" that gives you special bonuses if you get more of it. And golden path should change the application of the skill, like making it a real path not a stupid little pool, but let valkyrs come down from valhalla and consecrate the "path" making it "golden" 20-30 meters in front of you. Maybe even deciding if it does dmg or heals, but then it will have a stronger effect and it will be %, not flat dmg ( for the talent set only though ). And to top it off, give it a last bonus for proccing on your hits and heals for a few secs. That would be interesting. Like: When you heal someone, a rain of consecration pops upon their heads, making group heals possible. Silly idea kinda but I like the principle^^ But aside from that, the idea of talent sets would be interesting. It increases the speciality of your spec.
A easy fix to consecration would be making follow around you. Also the whole making u have more consecration then 1 would help to. Like the main one u cast follows u and the other are dropped on the floor. But i do think they could also do more with the horse. Make it knock back people when running them over.
Conscecration following you around was a thing in wod. Same as basically any other fun thing paladins had. But Blizz wants to act like wod never existed I guess
I'd honestly really like the concept of a Conc pally where conc works more like singed from league and wherever you walk you make a path of consecrated grounds.
Imho, the consecration build is a great idea and something most people have been asking about. It just doesn't fit PVP, but then again, not all talents have to be viable for every style of gameplay! Fortunately they have brought back stuff like Exorcism and Long Arm of the Law (which need tuning), but it shows they are really trying to implement a gameplay retris want and what we are asking about. Is consecration's build perfect? I suppose it needs some tuning. Perhaps it is huge for leveling and Mythic+, and exactly what retri needs to finally be really viable in 15+ and beyond! Personally, I am really looking forward to it!
I was thinking about them having a Rightous leap: You use your wings to fly into the air and smash down on the enmy dealing insane damage and leaving a consecration for 900% damage for 4 seconds. ON a 1 min cd.
judgement is a 45sec or 30 second CD now BUT silences the target for 3-4 sec an the passive effect was crusader striker now grants 2 Holy power ? or divine storm now throws out judgments up to 3-5 targets?, giving a each judgment a 20% chance to grant an extra holy power or with Mc cools idea when stacking concentration infuses you with the light give you and avgering wrath that grows stronger with the more concentrations you stack kinda like super saiyan 1 super saiyan 2 super saiyan 3 but with concentration stacks?
This was Gold! Only part I didn't appreciate is at the end when chat was being rude to McConnell, it was uncalled for and should have been left off the youtube vod.
THAT SOUND WHEN IT PROCS, what was it called? It made a scary and beautiful sound it's frikkin AWESOME. And make a glow effect on hands it's, nostalgic.
My biggest gripe with talents (for any class/spec) is when they make a talent intentionally weak, and then on the next tier have another talent that simply buffs the previous one to a decent level. That's not how talents should work! Just put points in the first one to make it better and let people decide how many they want to put in. Instead they are trying to get 2-3 talents out of a single one because they can't think of anything interesting, or maybe it's just sheer laziness.
I agree so much about the fact they're adding talents like "+ 2% haste" like are they that void of any creativeness they can't create some new and fun talents?
What if they changed they way bubble worked as a pvp talent for ret. Im no game designer, but if you maybe gave bubble a 1 second duration of immunity, and took away the debuff it gives and reduce the cooldown to something appropriate, maybe 30-45 seconds. Rework it so a paladin, with enough attention and skill, can deny cc coming at them.
i feel like if they gave paladins shockwave from prot warriors but make it have higher damage and no stun but have it be like the big finisher like ashen verdict but you could get a pvp talent that gives it a short maybe .5s stun but its aoe stun
I honestly think no ability should be in the talent tree, except the signature finishers/big spells for the specs. Make all abilities accessible to their class and then replace those with actual talents that change gameplay. Dual talents are a really good inclusion though and i hope they work way more with that idea.
After having personally played the alpha, I give Ret a big fat 0 out of 10. It's honestly impressive how Ret managed to lose more and more of not only it's identity, but gameplay. I gave a massive wall of text as feedback on the EU alpha forums, but I doubt they'll listen to any Ret players. 4 months till release, no shot they fix Ret up when they have so much to do.
I think those 2% stat increase is a nice concept, if they make it so you don’t have to take all the amount to move to the next tier and just make it a 2/4/6/8/10% type of talent then it would be worth it. For swift crusader, I’ll say a leap and not a charge; leap should had been a pally thing while warriors charge and dk grip. For the kick, why don’t they just give us a range kick?
Shield of Vengeance should give a 20%dmg redux for 6s if it breaks. That way if it expires it means they didnt hurt your health at all, and if they burst you and break it it will prevent you from dying afterwards. What do you think savix
The devs really need to make some super fun talents. If they would stop trying to restrict everything and did some fun crazy stuff people would love it. Of course you wouldn't do it for things that can't be balanced (like a twilight devastation) but giga fun utilities would be great.
Even the least experienced of ret players can come up with more exciting and better talent ideas. What the hell is the dev team doing? Probably to busy harassing women to do their jobs properly.
i AGREE with both on alot, but I think the dot from Blade should stay, for exact opposite of what they were saying. We don't' have dot damage out side ot consecration. So it lends at least something besides consecration to our steady damage out put. I mean we are already kings and queens of burst damage, but that is just it. You blow your load and then womp womp womp waaaa. it sucks in Raid, because that is all there is. I would love to a blade consecration build where maybe we don't burst as hard, but our consistent damage is very high. So like like on long single target fights we have a choice do we 1 adn 2 minute burst or 3 as they want to do right now, or do we have a high uptime of consistent damage? Least having the choice, even if it is not as optimal would be nice.
I'd like to see: - Exorcism replace Blade of Wrath if the talent is taken which turns it into pure holy damage and some other nice effects such as increased range - Pursuit of Justice return as a 2/3 point talent - Crusader Strike do some actual decent damage - Divine Toll be on the Paladin tree instead of appearing in each spec tree (duh?) - Consecration is an actual joke - Sacred shield return as a general paladin ability in some form - take auras off the tree and make them baseline - Divine Steed should suppress movement impairing effects while you are mounted on it - Using Divine Steed outside of combat should allow you to remain mounted on your charger (mounted proper) - Repentance instance cast - too many abilities in the tree that should just be baseline (cleanse, wings, LoH, auras) - take the angels from diablo and make my paladin like that plz - so many of the capstones for paladin are so terrible
What do you guys rate the Retribution Tree out of 10!
For pve id give it a 10 but for pvp i need to see tuning and how it plays in 2s, probably a 7-8 since long arm is so peepee but it's still got spellwarden and decently fun custom builds

what would be the point of retribution aura then?
It used to be a glyph for prot paladin in wod, that thing was so good

Loved this talk show/podcast with Mccool looking forward to next after updates.
What if Golden Path made Consecration stick to your character like an aoe circle around you, keep the healing part and make it heal for more
Sees the length of the video. Oh this is gonna be good
Madparagon affects Judgement both in dmaage in wings uptime as well. uptime should almost be the same retail if not more since you press them on cd anyways. and synergies with divine toll assuming you get an extra 2.5 second of wings because of that change
It would make more sense if it was flat holy dmg but to stick so many modifiers on a single situation stationary spell is just weird.
a duo i never thought i'd live to see
They did pally things together a while ago, Esfand too
whats best tank currently? / looking good for dragonflight? was thinking prot pal or maybe demon hunter tank
Why don't they add Tyrael's sword ability from HoTS? It's such a good Paladin ability.
Nah give paladins Falling Sword ability from D3 Crusaders
saviiiixxxx you're backk! i would love to play a bg with you and learn to be a good pali! paliforlifeeeee
Remember back in like cata when we had a glyph I think that made it when we cast judgement, we gained movement speed? Something like that would be handy
Really love the idea of divine storm projectile dropping consecrated ground. You could take that with the slow and it actually sounds okay in pvp
Silly idea kinda but I like the principle^^
But aside from that, the idea of talent sets would be interesting.
Savix the social Butterfly
Really hope they get a proper review and a numbers tweak before this goes any further.
I was thinking about them having a Rightous leap: You use your wings to fly into the air and smash down on the enmy dealing insane damage and leaving a consecration for 900% damage for 4 seconds. ON a 1 min cd.
i watched this video almost 10 times for reals and blizzard should really really pay attention to this coz this is fken GOLD ty guys salutes
4:18 It killed me when the Legion class hall music started playing Sadge
judgement is a 45sec or 30 second CD now BUT silences the target for 3-4 sec an the passive effect was crusader striker now grants 2 Holy power ? or divine storm now throws out judgments up to 3-5 targets?, giving a each judgment a 20% chance to grant an extra holy power or with Mc cools idea when stacking concentration infuses you with the light give you and avgering wrath that grows stronger with the more concentrations you stack kinda like super saiyan 1 super saiyan 2 super saiyan 3 but with concentration stacks?
Highly suggest, if you haven't yet, that you make a forum post in the Alpha Forums, they're actually reading them this time.
This was Gold! Only part I didn't appreciate is at the end when chat was being rude to McConnell, it was uncalled for and should have been left off the youtube vod.
100% should attach the slow to an ability (judge or blade) that also drops a consecrate at target location so they can’t walk out as fast.
That thumbnail is gold
THAT SOUND WHEN IT PROCS, what was it called? It made a scary and beautiful sound it's frikkin AWESOME. And make a glow effect on hands it's, nostalgic.
Thanks for your videos love paladin and my kids watch your videos
consecration following ur character would be pretty sick along with an aoe slow to nearby enemies
The Oneshot is not only a direction for Ret, its the direction of every class.
I'm kinda curious... Is that a band tshirt? Trying to figure out whats written on it...
yay you're back!
What about a pvp talent that makes consecration move with the pally, those builds might be alot better
I agree so much about the fact they're adding talents like "+ 2% haste" like are they that void of any creativeness they can't create some new and fun talents?
I feel like consecration can be fixed by adding a passive that makes it move with the paladin. Like earthquake on the earth ele Lego.
I like this idea
Love this; they should make consecration like 100% bigger
Poggers Champion
id like it if there was more motivation to change auras in combat.
RIP Empowered Seals
i feel like if they gave paladins shockwave from prot warriors but make it have higher damage and no stun but have it be like the big finisher like ashen verdict but you could get a pvp talent that gives it a short maybe .5s stun but its aoe stun
I honestly think no ability should be in the talent tree, except the signature finishers/big spells for the specs.
Make all abilities accessible to their class and then replace those with actual talents that change gameplay.
Dual talents are a really good inclusion though and i hope they work way more with that idea.
glad you could make it savix
Uther's Gathering lets GOOOOOOO
MCOOOOOL!!!!
Paladin focus group is back :D
Seeing what's going on with the other classes... I'm super worried about Monk now.
consecration could be usefull for holly or tank tho... isnt the paladin tree tha same for every spec?
I think those 2% stat increase is a nice concept, if they make it so you don’t have to take all the amount to move to the next tier and just make it a 2/4/6/8/10% type of talent then it would be worth it. For swift crusader, I’ll say a leap and not a charge; leap should had been a pally thing while warriors charge and dk grip.
For the kick, why don’t they just give us a range kick?
Savix ❤️
i like their personalities together, good fit
Least having the choice, even if it is not as optimal would be nice.
they should give talent so that the consencration moves with you, then the concencration build would make sense
I can't see myself trying this expansion with such a ret playstyle. I'll stick to playing MoP on a private server as i have done since 2014.
wait but what do you have in your spellbook now if literally everything is a talent? like, a crusader strike and a judgment or?
quality content
I'd like to see:
- Exorcism replace Blade of Wrath if the talent is taken which turns it into pure holy damage and some other nice effects such as increased range
- Pursuit of Justice return as a 2/3 point talent
- Crusader Strike do some actual decent damage
- Divine Toll be on the Paladin tree instead of appearing in each spec tree (duh?)
- Consecration is an actual joke
- Sacred shield return as a general paladin ability in some form
- take auras off the tree and make them baseline
- Divine Steed should suppress movement impairing effects while you are mounted on it
- Using Divine Steed outside of combat should allow you to remain mounted on your charger (mounted proper)
- Repentance instance cast
- too many abilities in the tree that should just be baseline (cleanse, wings, LoH, auras)
- take the angels from diablo and make my paladin like that plz
- so many of the capstones for paladin are so terrible
