I like prot. It better appeals to my Paladin fantasy that ret. Sword and shield. Righteous defender of the innocent. Impenetrable Holy barrier. I loved questing as prot. Feels good tanking all 15 mobs I need for a quest at once. Of course, you can do that with most classes now because the game is mind-numbingly easy outside of PvP and raiding.

Dadaism Enhancement Shamans are not enhanced themselves. They enhance their weapons with elemental magic. Paladins channel the light through their bodies.
This is why I hate all of the 'new' systems. Why was Cata and MoP class design good? The devs had to sit and play the specs and actually tweek things about the classes then bring them all to a state of playability. Now, they say 'here's a rotation' and then devs have to focus on how to balance extra systems instead of the core class. STOP NEW SYSTEMS. Balance the f*cking classes so people aren't so disappointed in their mains and reroll to the op spec/op new system combination that exists this week/season.
First of all, McConnell is 2600 rated with his "shitty" ret paladin. Paladins are fine (Don't listen to McCuck). Second of all, games with 10+ classes and 30+ specs (and you may want to take note of this) will never, EEEEEEEEEEEEVER be balanced. Never. Literally NEVER. PVP wasn't balanced in Vanilla, it wasn't balanced in BC, it wasn't balanced in Wrath, ETC. and it won't be balanced in SL. It's an MMO the devs should never waste time "balancing the game". Its better when the game is unbalanced. Glad is now account bound, so play the meta and shut the fuck up.
you are blind by nostalgia if you thought class balance in cata was good, remember frost mage HARD counter every melee and ESPECIALLY ret paladin? remember tanks being literally bosses in pvp because of vengeance passive? remember rogues being gods because of insane damage and cc? remember fury warriors being one shot machines?

@@LightForgedProtector Sorry, I was going to just put Mists and got a little overzealous. I think most expansions have been better than the 'system based' expansions. I understand there are certain specs that REALLY stand out in each expansion but I think the system based expansion is just to distract from how broken classes really are at the moment. I've had some real fun playing many classes only for the class be considered garbage because there are just some classes that overshadow everything with their corruptions. Example: Combo Building WW Monk was a lot of fun to play in BFA but once I got into dungeons and raids, many classes such as DHs and their corruptions just pummeled the meters.

Back in WoD/MoP and anything before that a Ret Paladin had a good chance at defeating a rogue or any class, any long time Ret Player understands and sees all the bad negative things that blizzard keeps doing to this class from anything past WoD/MoP, BFA is mostly to blame and why i quit WoW.

I don't like McCuck, but the things him and Savix have been complaining about recently, I have been saying since they got rid of Long Arm and Emancipate, and gave us the shitty horse.
So since the start of Legion. I hated WoD, but enjoyed paladin during WoD, it was in a good spot.
When asmon signed 'NERF RET PALLY' with his eyebrows, that was truly powerful. Brought me to tears.

@@Sangth123 First of all, there is a pretty big difference between "being useful", which every class should be, and "100 to 0% anyone in a 4s stun every 30s", which shouldn't exist since trinket has a 2min CD.
Secondly, because a class has been good (decent would be more realistic in the case of ret) doesn't mean it derserves to be bad. And vice versa, a class doesn't "deserve" to be broken just because it has been bad, it deserves to be balanced and "useful" (as you call it), as every class deserveq to be. This way of thinking completely retarded to say the least.
Lastly, people are right to point out flaws in a class design, and you have to be a really sad and disappointing person to call them pathetic. Every class comunity is right to point out problematic stuff because they are the ones who played the class/spec enough to see the flaws, especially since devs don't seem to be playing their game.
P.S : I don't even play ret, I'm not defending the spec but way too many people have a short-sighted way of seeing things like you do

@@amae6682 My guy, I've been playing Sub Rogue for 13 years. In Draenor alone they removed upwards of 8 abilities, that's abilities, not passives, from Sub Rogue. And our poisons. And then they never bothered to do anything to fix it. We lost our burst, we lost our utility, our DPS was garbage and we had zero sustain, for about *6 years.* Yes, I know I'm coming off a bit strong, but they completely gutted my spec top to bottom. It feels like these Rets are guys who played paintball and are going to a support group for PTSD next to a dude who went to Vietnam.
Exactly, we don't have to think "Will Blizzard fix this?" rather know that Blizzard will destroy this spec to be at best middle-pack in DPS IF they balance it correctly, otherwise near the bottom.
Ret pala of 13 years here, benching my paladin re-rolling UH DK and a Rogue alt.
An easy fix would be: Ret has 2 charges of horse baseline, and talent the reduce the CD to 30 sec and make it clean any slow and snare effect.

I do agree with that, BFA is the reason i never came back to WoW. But Ret Paladins are a DPS class, mobility is not what there meant for, its surviving, heals and DPS. Want mobility play a shaman or a class that can turn into a bear or wolf or something lol. Paladin talents are complete garbage tho, i dont use any of them really they all are trash. Rets want old talents back from WoD/MoP and before, everything past WoD/MoP was useless
As Asmon said (paraphrasing), “when you’re hard countered by every caster class, it’s a problem.” In paladins case, I would say almost every ranged class can smack a Ret around easily.
Then you get to melee. DH, rogue, Druid, and monk...all extremely mobile and can kite a pally all day long if they need to. That leaves..warrior, enhance sham...maybe UH DK...but I’ve seen them melt pallies. Zero knowledge on sham and warrior.
DPS outside of wings is terrible...combine that with no procs and you play like a lvl 10 toon in Elwynn.
@@CBassChan Warriors can Kite Paladins with specific talents and make them either use medallion when they suddenly are disarmed during wings etc. for example, Piercing howl AOE slow, Hamstring(Now baseline) for slows, Fear, Stormbolt, Heroic leap, Disarm(PVP talent) and shattering throw in Shadowlands(PS: has a PVP talent that makes it 1 min CD). it's safe to assume yea they can't win 1v1 directly but going at them outside of Burst including Fury warriors(Which have insane burst talents that might make them viable for 3's with arms and 2s again)

Both McConnell and savix stuck with their class for a while in the course of the past years but them quitting just shows you the gravity of the situation
@@abdennourlaib4519 It's not that bad overall. PVP wise, yes, the class is horrible. But, as Preach and others have shown, Ret is actually really good for PVE. And the Necrolords/Venthyr provide perfect abilities for them (I would suggest Venthyr though). Night Fae is fine, though I do think that's more inclined with Holy Paladins. And Kyrian...yeah, be Prot for that lol.
In pve ret is below average it’s cool down dependant during kill time and their covenants well I hate covenants but that’s just my point of view and I suspect that they will get nerfed like they alread nerfed night fae twice now

MoP and WoD Ret were THE BEST versions of Ret. It’s sad to see there is no hope of recovery.
I mained Arms warrior for the longest time, but eventually after being absolutely exploded by a destro warlock, and being tired of having no self healing, I decided to play a warlock for the first time.
I leveled them to 120 two days ago, and it was the best decision I’ve ever made in WoW. Playing warrior was essentially masochism because whenever I did anything I wanted to bash my head in with a TV remote. Warlock, however, is the opposite, because I’m the one causing people to bash their heads in. Shooting chaos bolts at losers who don’t play warlock is the greatest feeling ever and I fully accept that the class is busted af.
Now rets will feel the dk experience, that's good :)
Ret needs a straight up copy of the DK ability Death's Advance (but light themed)
As a rogue main this is pretty much the usual for sub every xpac. They're phenomenal in beta and upon release are nerfed to dog shit and it doesn't even get used throughout the expansion lol. Chill.

Remember how Savix was talking about he would like to have the horse from Diablo 3's crusader class? Tbh, since they dislike the horse to begin with, because it's too obvious, maybe they should ask for another crusader ability. Namely "Falling Sword", where the crusader leaps into the heavens and crushes down at a targeted location. I know, it sounds a lot like heroic leap or maybe that jump ability from tank demon hunters, but honestly.. if they can make that a thing for ret paladins with maybe a little slow applied to targets hit by it and removing slows from the paladin on landing, that could be pretty good. Would be important that it doesn't have a big animation time, or else it would be too slow. And paladins could also use this to effectively retreat from dangerous situations as well.
I don't know why Savix would want to main Rogue, he should know very well that Blizzard is going to nerf them and by nerf I don't mean a little to be in line with other classes, they will probably destroy them to be at best middle-pack.
Rogues because of their toolkit will always be good in PvP even if their damage is not the best. Although usually at least one of the specs is actually top tier damage wise as well...
The thing is if another class like rogue is nerfed in damage it still has lots of cc, nice defencives on low cd, good mobility so you can still get comps with it like in bfa ppl said that sub rogue had low dmg and it was still insane in PVP :)) and it's damage that was so low was as high as a ret damage that ppl consideret to be verry high which is just weird same with shadow prists that were considered bad but there were still a lot more in top 200 than ret which was like only 1-2 rets in top 200... but if u nerf ret damage and that was the only thing it had wtf it's gonna do then... and yea ofc I get that ppl that are nub ret or don't play it as main want to see ret in a bad position cuz they have enaugh competition from Dh, Mage, Warlock, Rogue, Hunter so when they see a ret in arena they want to say "oh noice... free 15mmr" like in bfa... but think of this... what if it was ur class?
God, I love maining mage. We never have any major changes because the specs all work well. We just get some fun stuff added each expansion and keep topping dps meters.
I mained Ret during MoP and WoD. WoD Ret was amazing. We have decent amount of movement and half our spells were ranged so even if we couldn't get to the target we had something to do to them instead of just RP walking towards the target.
I was tempted to go back to Ret for SL but after all the videos I've seen, I'll pass.

Gotta agree with Mcconnell here. Ret is simply not fun, tried maining it in second half of BFA but its just not enjoyable. Yea dealing insane damage for a few seconds during wings is fun, but outside of it, which is like 90% of the time, the class does very low damage, and they have shit self-heal and low mobility. Thats the problem and its easy to fix, just nerf the wings damage and buff the damage outside of wings, buff the shitty self-heal and add some form of mobility. Thats it. I play warrior, dk, paladin and rogue, and out of all of them its ret paladin that definitely feel the weakest overall. Clicking wings and destroying people in seconds is fun for a few seconds but once its off you are back to hitting like a wet noodle in a wheelchair while trying to keep urself alive with shitty self-heals, the wings damage is not worth that.
@Reppü In BFA compared to DK yes, its shitty. Considering its a fucking paladin the self-heals should be better. Slightly improved in Shadowlands perhaps but not enough.

Ret Paladins were heading this way since exactly the prepatch of wotlk. There they were made so RIDICULOUSLY op and sooooo easy to play (no more seal-juggling)... bubblewings and superdamage... everyone and their mothers rolled one. The nerfs came and the cycle started.
And yeah, I'd love to have that ret back with the insane toolkit and options, even if that means I chug more manapots in raid than a rogue thistletea.

I can't wait for Sub rogue to be relevant for half a raid tier. Sub rogues are currently lowest DPS in BFA PvE.
They are the highest dps in shadowlands raids. Higher than mage and warlock. They are the #1 dps.

sounds like mcconnell needs to find a new spec, like most players are because of how much they're shaking shit up. they're understaffed and clearly their goals don't align with player desires. so work with what you got, which is the ability to re-roll.

love how Asmon completely contradicts himself in the same video. when watching the rogue video he says how so many op classes and abilities always make it out of the beta/ptr without being nerfed. but when watching the pally video he says any op class in the beta is always nerfed before it goes live. lol

I play guardian druid as a main. Not one positive thing has changed for them in three expansions. It's ridiculous. Even with mountains of feedback in the beta forum regarding bear tanks, blizz remains silent
Prot Pal is the master spec in PvP! Just drop Ret and pick up a shield to continue your fight with the light

Rets have hated Divine Steed since it was first introduced. Rets liked things that were previously in the game like long arm of the law, and the ability of cleanse to remove movement impairing effects. Why do they insist on spells the community hates? If you change something and everyone hates it, and no one had a problem with how it previously worked why not just admit it was a bad idea?
The big overall problem is that blizzard doesn't have classes or specs, they have empty husks that get propped up by talents. what they should really do is a complete overhaul so they can design classes properly with an idea of what they want this class to be and then give them extra new skills based on the specs they chose and make talents game-play choices rather than making the specs rely on them for identity.
Archeage had these very issues with dmg. Everything killed you in 1-2 shots with no setup, ruining pvp. That 25k hit had a few perks going for it, but even 50-60% INSTANT hp loss with no setup is silly.
Ret is now a 3 button class, more simple then DH with 3 holy power generating skills and one spender on single target, what they expect to get when there is zero effort to do well xD
If ret gets more mobillity theyll have everything. Bubble, healing, freedom bop, sac, freedom, silence aura thingy.
Having little mobillity is the only thing that makes ret not the most op spec
No they don’t their dmg is dependent on wings if you can avoid wings with cc and kite and défensives you can play the rest ignore the game comfortably their healing and sov is affected by dampening and if you have a class that can nerf the healing that’s even better their their only actual def is bubble and that’s a 5 mins cool down so you force that and it’s over you have a whole 5 mins to kill a squishy defenseless opponent their cc is weak they have only’ one cc which is hammer of justice and that’s it the way I see it you have millions of ways to counter play a ret in arena
exec sentence will get nerfed to the ground in pvp. It's a literal 1 shot. Not some "i killed someone in 2 seconds" kind of shit. It's actually instant 100% of my own hp in damage.
weird that they'd called their Retribution Paladin support group "Uther's Round Table" considering that Uther is a Holy Paladin. The entire "class spec identity" of Holy in Legion was built around Uther, AND he's a healer in HoS (i know it doesn't count but idgaf). Should call their group "Tirion's Round Table" he was the Ashbringer after all.

I don't think he's asking for a lot. Not many people ask for damage nerfs to their own class/spec.
Problem is balance pvp if you give warrior survivalability everyone complains says broken. They take it all away and then you get warrior are super squishy even with heals. Ret has slow mobility but heals and burst just cant stay in fight for too long. Problem is balance were everyone has a chance vs everyone and based on skill not just play rogue, mage, and lock god comps.

That's literally what happened to MM hunter - we had so much power in early BfA that we got nerfed to the ground and never came back after that, because too many talents worked good together in pvp that they nerfed all of them...

It's very hard to main a new class when you have played one for more than a DECADE. In my case, I have played Rogue ever since TBC S1. I had really great fun with it but with each expension, the class tools and skills were getting gutted little by little until I just could barely recognize that fun character I had with me for ages.
So I switched to DH during Legion pre-patch, it was and still is sadly quite bare bones compared to TBC/WoTLK Rogue, but it was really fresh to me and I didn't lose all my collected T-mogs (still miss Bloodfang though...).
Damage tuning aside, Blizzard really need to wake up and start making classes FUN and DEPTH. Spamming the same keys with barely any decision making is really sad. With my old Rogue sure it wasn't perfect, but with 5 combos I could choose : raw damage, dot damage, reduce armor, increase attack speed, stun.... Now it's essentially for many classes 1 or 2 builders MAX then 1 main spender and eventually if lucky a second one, not more.
Really lame work on some classes, I'm glad others didn't get this shitty treatment. We ALL want to have fun when playing our classes and it goes beyond just damage tuning.
rogue only lost the combo point armor pierec, which 2/3 specs don't need because of mixed damage ? Rogue is absolutely the last class that can complain about getting gutted.

I talked about rogue because it's the class I played. To cite some examples :
Combat (oh sorry now Outlaw) spec : Rupture was removed, haven't check if it's back. Made into RNG spec. Can't use shadowstep anymore.
Sub : slice'n'dice removed if memory serves me right, same for rupture, had a shitty replacement instead.
Probably other crap I forgot since I stopped playing the class for years now.
Just a few examples, I haven't bothered to check SL changes for them, but from what I heard, they got better. Still I probably won't switch again. Once is already annoying enough and I always focus on 1 character.
Numbers can be adjusted. As a rogue main for over 10 years I can say that they normally shine more towards the end of the expansion interms of pvp, and if they seem to hit hard on release it’s obviously gonna get fixed and adjusted which is fine. Just hope for a more fluent and more fun gameplay compared to BfA

I am also a 15 year Ret and i'm rolling a DK for SL. My problem isn't even all this that he mentions, it's that they removed all Ret utility. I am not even angry it's like: average damage with no utility? Who wants that?I'm not even angry. It just feels like Blizz revamped things for Holy and Prot and totally forgot Ret exists. So, i am forgetting too until they remember. No need to frustrate myself.

I miss seal twisting and Long arm of the law, fuck I hate divine steed so fucking much. I miss Ret being a pseudo mid range class with exorcism and judgement being a lower CD. Back in the day you could kite a warrior and kill him from out of melee range. So much more skill involved with seal twisting and survivability in pvp
no hybrid class should be good and viable top tier dps... it would make all straight dps classes redundant
I also think people see a bunch of short cuts like this in a highlight reel and think that's what the class performs like all the time. Just like a highlight reel for an athlete, it's designed to make it look dominant and show off their best moments. But it speaks nothing to the reality of execution in actual game play, the consistency of that performance, or the likelihood of being able to do that at all against superior competition. As Savvix said in the previous video, high level players can see it coming a mile away and just cc you, and in those cases the potential to do massive damage is completely nullified. Maybe against a boss or npc that's just standing there taking it sure, but against another human with a brain and practice in the game of arena and pvp, it's just not a reality, and these types of highlight reels skew that reality.

Maybe if McConnell wants less damage and more mobility he should play a different class..? It was my impression that paladins aren’t the most mobile character. They wear heavy plated armor. So what they want.
Warriors are like the Minnesota Vikings. For the most part, they are really good, sometimes elite level, but never get past that last big hurdle. No matter how hard they try, they never even sniff the top of the competitive ladder (The superbowl, in minnesota's case)
Wings only gives you 20% more damage, and 20% crit. So if you crit without wings your 25k crit is still 20k. Why does Asmond say "half that"

people that complain about feral and enhancement just aren't good at the class. don't go by the guides or by raidbots/AMR. Do your own theorycrafting grind, and test it out yourself. Top output for both specs without using the builds in the guides. they're just specs that require effort that Guiltyas and Wordup refuse to do thuroughly
In the glory days of ret, it was a spec that if they locked you down, you were dead. The huge burst is why they have low mobility. It has to be that way. Give them more mobility and there's no reason to play anything else
Lævateinn why don't we just give every class escapes, freedoms, purges, interupts, stuns, mobility, damage, and range while we're at it. The things McCuck is complaining about are literally the defining characteristics of his class, and always have been. Homogenizing the classes takes all the flavor away and it's a dull game nobody wants to play anymore.
I love the idea that "it'll be fixed on launch." Talk to Windwalkers. Or enhance.
People don't realize that an optimized ret is better for everyone. Nobody wants to run around easily deleting people; it's not engaging and it's not rewarding. Getting glad with a cheese class is bullshit anyway. *cough* Warlock and mage *cough cough* If they just fixed the problems with class (mobility, survivability, caster counters, etc), instead of making us golden gods every couple expansions, everyone would have a better time.
Frost DK has had these mobility problems for as long as I can remember, but their burst windows made up for it to some degree.
For that DMG that you can see in the video you have only 8 sec window during bubble and you have to time it like a God,if you miss that chance you are dead or wait 2 min for wings ......

hybrid class should not be able to pull off this much dmg, they really need to rework hybrids to lower their dmg and increase utility in both pvp and pve
Tbf savix loves to solo que. I feel like ret is pretty comp dependent whereas rogues are just....good for most comps
