Honestly one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen, I’ve begun tinkering with an old spartan radio that my grandfather told me to throw out but i love to see old radios like these have a new life with the modern touch, so that people of our era can enjoy them as much as the original owners! Cheers!!!
There is always one or two fools that think you need to save a plastic zenith radio that they probably made 10k of. Its a 10.00 radio give me a break. Nice job on this project
I started development with Melody 5.0, but then upgraded to 5.5. It's very interesting that you mention the mic sensitivity changing after upgrading... At some point I noticed that my microphone no longer worked, but I thought it must be a hardware issue. I had so many other things to work on that I figured I'd just deal with it eventually. I like that 5.5 brought in many more features (especially multipoint), but there seem to be some bugs in call handling which make it difficult to use. I've been in contact with tech support but it's unclear whether it will be fixed.
Hello, yes I am still planning to release the designs. I got extremely busy just after finishing the radio and haven't had time to get the files ready for sharing. I will try to get this done soon.
Very Cool. There seems to be 2 camps on this sorta thing. 1 is preservicng the radio as is, the other going extreeme like this one. the radios he chose is not a teribly vaulable radio, so gutting it and making it all modded up like this is just super cool. i think he should take a bit more efferot to the exterior and pollish it up a bit more. possibly add some faux chrome, nicer dials, etc. If someone were to do this to say on old Emerson "Mae west" Circa 1939 i would get sick over it.
Thanks for a superb piece of work and video. Could you help me please. Firstly, how would I connect the dial to be able to choose different mp3 tunes on a usb stick as you would use the dial to choose a different radio station? Secondly, how would I be able to connect to a RUclips music video and just play the mp3? Many thanks in advance.
Re-engineered is quite an understatement. motors on the needles, lights, and a microphone! I can' t get over this. I watched it several times, going over what you had to do to program all that function in there. it wears me out to think about such a project. But If i could have access to your work, i would try to apply that to a radio for the challenge. Retired engineer going stir crazy, Dennis
Wow just simply awesome. When you said, "features never seen before", I chuckled and said yeah right. I'm not laughing anymore. Dude you have some serious skills. I would not give them out for free. I would sell them as a kit or plans on eBay. If you don't someone else will. Most likely some Chinese manufacture will scoop your idea up and profit from it. Don't get me wrong that would be great, as others would have a cheap kit to use, but the credit and profits should go to you. Best Wishes n Blessings. Keith
Hi Scott. Just came upon this video and love what you did! Do you still plan on releasing the designs? I would love to do something similar but do not know where to start. Thanks!
This is fantastic. I have a Zenith 1937 that I am wanting to do this type of upgrade to. When and where are the source code and hardware designs released at? Thanks!
does it use tubes in the amp? that would even kick it up more! love the leds incorperated in the historic dial. love how you use the historic knobs. its magcal!
Just found this. Awesome creativity. Did I miss the link to the specs and parts? Are you going to release this so the rest of us can have fun? Thanks............
Scott this is so cool ! congratulations. could you tell me what material you used for the kind of half circle neons, and how you engraved it with the numbers ? thank you for your answer.
That was actually the radio’s original frequency dial and those numbers were already on it. Old-fashioned elegant. I liked it so much that I decided I had to add LEDs to it.
Hi very nice one!!! "All of the source code and hardware designs will soon be released as a free open-source project." did you decide if it will free info (in this case where can we find it) or if we have to pay for the plan (in this where can we find it)? thanks a lot
Scott Lumsden i'd name it advanced bluetooth speaker build in a vintage radio box. Its a great build, it does look great. People looking to do something like that will look for something with "build" in the tittle. Or at least I think they would.
Did you keep the BC127 on its stock Melody 5.0 RC11 firmware or upgrade it to one of the 5.5+ versions? When I switch from 5.0 to 5.5, the microphone sensitivity drops off significantly, basically rendering the microphone useless.
Hmm, it is a bit sad that you spent 3 mounths of your life to rebuild and re engineer an old valve radio and become it a computer based music system. But for the electronics lovers a great fun. I thing we should preserve these old radios as they are.
+Joshua Wallace If you want to make a serious offer, send me a private message. Since the radio is completely handmade and took a huge number of hours to make, it certainly will take big bucks for me to part with it.

I don't want to like this but I cannot help but be impressed.
This is the best restomod radio I have if seen on you tube. Amazing skills, great job.
I’m quite impressed to say the least. I’ve got the antique radio. The cabinet is great. It’s too bad I have zero electronics skills to do this.
Good use of modern electronics for practical use in an old radio cabinet , worth all the work.

Thanks Kurt!
An excellent example of creative engineering.
that led setup is, shall I say beautiful. I really love it. you turned me on to a new song too I loveeee it
That is so clever. Would love one of these to act as a guitar amp!
+The Casting On Couch Thank you! You might be interested in theses guys: squareamps.com/store/
Dude! That was incredible!
No offense. This is not a mod of an old radio. It is a re use of an old case. All internals are replaced.
Couldn't help but think the same thing. Still, the acoustics lend good vintage vibes.

Melody 6 is working pretty well for me. Make sure to enable the demo license for AAC streaming.
Sounds really good once you do that.

+Scott Lumsden I'm Just wondering if you ever ended up posting the source code and hardware designs yet?

I nominate this prop for Back to the Future IV
Beautiful Scott!
Great job! Thanks for sharing!
Very cool project 👍
This is great! Nice work!! 😁

Fantastic job. I had a similar idea in mind, but you greatly exceeded what I had contemplated. Please share your design and code. This is awesome!
Man, that's one awesome project!

Where can I get the plans for this project? That thing is cool AF.
Awesome project! I am about to start making something similar, maybe I'll steal some of your ideas :) Cheers!
Hi Scott - love what you did with this radio. Where can I get the plans and codes to give it a try myself?
This is fantastic! Did you publish the plans anywhere?
that is awesome what you did to that radio. if i shipped you an old radio do you think you can do what you did to your radio to mine?
Scott this is so cool ! congratulations. could you tell me what material you used for the kind of half circle neons, and how you engraved it with the numbers ? thank you for your answer.

WOW....serious fucken coolest overload going on there man! Love it :-)
that's crazy cool
lol dude, that is awesome
great job, great engineering
Scott this is incredible do you have the source code and hardware designs available anywhere? I really want to try to build this.
Hi
very nice one!!!

Great project. I'd change the tittle though.
What would you change it to?

Wow! Just wow..
Is it still there in working
Wow! Dude you are too Damn AWESOME!
I would have kept the Tubes
that is amazing. I love it👍
banging my forehead with a fist...
man this is the coolest thing Ive seen so far.
Wow!
I've done, (updated) a couple of old radios..They seem awkward and foolish now after seeing this...
