- September 29, 2000. The inaugural game of the Minnesota Wild in the brand new Xcel Energy Center marks the NHL's return the land of 10,000 frozen lakes. No pro hockey in Minnesota was unthinkable to lifelong fans of the North Stars. Finally they have their game back. This is a classic KARE/Minneapolis team shoot including Jonathan Malat, Brett Akagi, Jim Douglas and me.

Wasn't it somewhat fitting that the Wild and Mighty Ducks would face each other in a HIGHLY improbable Western Conference Finals matchup in 2003?

I never understood why Bettman wanted to "Souther-nise" the NHL. Most fans are in the northern US and Canada anyways. I'm pumped to see Seattle start playing.
I know the league doesn't want to expand after Seattle, but Hamilton and Quebec, in Canada need teams. And Cincinatti, Hartford, Indianapolis in the US. Sorry Atlanta, you had two kicks at the cat. Honestly, Toronto could possibly support a second NHL team at this point. One guy I know is on a 50-year waiting list for Leafs season tickets, which will eventually be given to his children, much like the Green Bay Packers season tix waiting list.
I'm from Boston we love hockey. I'll always take a Canadian team and their fans over a southern team but the southern teams do have some wonderful fans. Carolina and Nashville especially.

The simplicity of the North Star Logo coupled with all the years they were in Minnesota gave the North Stars way more meaning. The Minnesota Wild and the logo will always sound and look like a minor league team and the christmas jerseys look cheap. They inserted a team with absolutely no history into a state with so much hockey history. It still feels odd to this day.
@@kanyejest1470 The wild are garbage, the name, the colors and their 20 years of existence. The north stars leaving is a massive black mark for the NHL.
