People in 2019: "OMG Vegas' lights and dancing are so obnoxious!!"
'92 Senators: Hold my beer.
93 Ducks and Disney: Pshh. MEDIOCRE AMATEURS!!!!!!!!
If I was on the team and saw that opening ceremony I’d pay my contract back and leave haha
MUFC soccer sucks
@MUFC Nobody cares
@MUFC I'm a soccer fan and I don't even care about this pointless rant.
If Liam Neeson isn't at Seattle's home opener just to say "RELEASE THE KRAKEN!" Then that would be a crime
Hes a rangers fan so idk about that one
Would be better to have Bill Nighy as Davy Jones saying it, considering he was in the Pirates movies that Bruckheimer produced.
Could get Davey Jones from Pirates Of the Caribbean to say it would fit well with the theme
Will the city still exist at that point? It's burning right now with all the riots.
@@bustywaifus are you in Seattle and witnessing it yourself?
I know everyone is chirping the sens intro, it was pretty funny but the Ducks had Disney on ice for their home opener 😂
And Gary “You know what rhymes with Duck?” Glitter
Mr. Pete O'Fyle?
They’re both so corny, I love it!!
That doesn’t make it any better lol
Bro Disney on ice slaps
And people thought Vegas’ pre-game antics were ridiculous.
I was actually at the first home opener game and it was very sobering especially after the mass shooting just days prior. The city really needed it.
@@88Sumdood I think he's referring to the on ice show that they did for introductions in each round of the playoffs in 2018, not their inagural game intro.
Just to clear it up, I was only referring to the people criticizing it, saying “that s**t doesn’t belong on ice” and stuff like that. I had no problem with it, in fact, I thought it gave Vegas a unique identity when they first entered.
Yeah I think Ottawa and Anaheim make Vegas seem pretty tame. Probably a good thing for Vegas though.
MUFC what are you even talking about? No one here is talking about soccer except you. And real soccer fans call it football just FYI
"First win in 58 years!" Sounds pretty funny out of context 😂
how did they even manage to hold out for that long HAHAHAHA
Wait this isnt a Detroit highlight
HoCkEy MaN2o4 lol
Haaaaaaahaaaaaa
They’ve won before!?
at this point, the kraken himself better come out of Seattles ice!
imagine if Cthulu came out instead like that one episode of south park XDDD
The shortest lived NHL team in history, their arena was destroyed on opening night
He will
@@canucklehead9250 😂
Someone will need to yell. "Release the Kraken!"
Let’s all have a moment of silence for the loss of our dear friend the Atlanta Thrashers....thank you
Alex Shadows thank you
R.I.P
BLESSED IN HOCKEY HEAVEN
12:13
I wish they would return :(
The Ducks opener is officially the most 90’s thing I’ve ever seen.
Chris Kontos scored 7% of his career goal total in that one game.
that's mind blowing
He sorta disappeared after that first season back to the minors
I'm pretty sure his four goals in one game are still a bolts record
@@scottfairbanks759 That record is tied with Martin St. Louis
He had 27 goals and 24 assist that season
The Minnesota intro at 14:30 was terrific. They never should have lost an NHL franchise and, of all the expansion teams you could tell how much it more it meant to them to have a team.
Did you know that the first senators game was actually played in TD Place where the Ottawa 67’s play because the senators arena wasn’t fully built yet
They spent their first three-and-a-half seasons there until the Palladium opened.
Sharks and Lightning also played their first game in temporary 10,000 ish seat arenas as well. The Sharks in the brilliantly named "Cow Palace" and the Lightning in the dull named "Expo Hall"
NHL Fans: Vegas’ pregame presentation are too over the top
Ottawa and Anaheim: *hold our shields and duck calls*
At least they didn't do it every game. I love that the golden knights have their own identity of being entertaining, but the pregame stuff can get pretty cringey and annoying
And blow your duck calls, WITH ALL YOUR MIGHT!
Announcer: "Atlanta is a hockey town!!"
Thrasher fans: "So that was a lie..."
For 10 years
Man, I only got to watch the hometown Thrashers for one year before they moved, since 2010 was the first season I started watching the NHL. Now I'm a Blackhawks fan (lived in Chicago before Atlanta lol)
Still pissed off about that.
They're known as the second incarnation of the Winnipeg Jets (WPG) now. The first incarnation of said Jets are now called the Arizona Coyotes (ARI).
Dont remind me
San Jose sharks man those jerseys were so good
Agreed. Wish they go completely back to them, OG logo and all
Tylr Vncnt I thought I saw the league is allowing 4th Jerseys now. I hope the Sharks pounce and do throwbacks. I need to see them
Yo. Yo! Yooo! The Stealth jerseys and the throwbacks would be an amazing two alternates to have. If they do go that direction I hope they’re the whites, I miss seeing white jerseys on home ice
"Were" being the key word there.
Yep, I was the only kid rocking a huge marshmallow thick Sharks jacket in Miami. Dope color scheme
Can you believe there was a time where Disney/ESPN cared about hockey so much that they owned a team?
They bought the team before Disney purchased ESPN
Phil Esposito likes to tell a story about he had to stop security from ejecting a fan who threw his hat on the ice after Kontos finished his hat trick.
The Wild's opening montage feels extremely nostalgic.
Yeah I’m a Sharks fan and I thought that was the most “feels” for sure 👍👍
Makes sense, seeing as Minnesota is the state that's biggest into hockey and the North Stars shouldn't have moved
The feels watching that 1st Wild game after what felt like an eternity after the stars left
Anaheim's intro is the most notorious. The Mighty Ducks of Anaheim were a marvel to behold in the 1990s. Not only were they owned by Mickey Mouse. They had 3 movies and an Animated cartoon based on them... That I am surprised to find on Disney Plus. What a time for hockey.
i physically recoiled when the senators clip started playing
Sometimes classic sports is weird
I always got a kick out of the unconventional name "Mighty Ducks of Anaheim." I can only imagine the groan that hockey traditionalists let out when hearing that, let alone they came within a game of having that name inscribed on the Stanley Cup in 2003. I still enjoyed watching them with Kariya, Selanne, Rucchin and others. They were fun.
Why could we be the Anaheim Mighty Ducks? Way better name
Nolan Wolf I mean they were called by both versions of the name.
I also thought Mighty Ducks of Anaheim rolled right off the tongue nicely.
And besides, hockey traditionalists can’t be gigantic douchbags with unnecessary and/or exaggerated criticisms.
I mean... it could be worse. “Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim” anyone?
The thought of that original name being on the cup is brilliant and the fact that we likely will never see it is making me sad
Imagine being a 10 year old kid living in Ottawa and going to the first game in a brand new jersey, seeing that intro, looking at your father and saying "I think I'm going to stick with rooting for the Leafs."
"I've never been more proud of you son."
Hahahahah omg 😂😂
It was soooo ridiculous omg, but oddly I couldn’t look away and was weirdly fascinated by that intro 😂 at least on *some* level..!! But my god I would’ve been embarrassed if that was my team for surrrre 😬😬
(They didn’t even show the Sharks skate thru the Shark head 😢)
ottawa is the leafs second home because all the leaf fans go there because ticket prices are higher in toronto
@@ppolow I'm not your buddy, guy.
@@ppolow Leaf fans don't go there, they all live in Ottawa. If you go to a Leafs-Sens game in Ottawa, it's more than half Leaf fans but hotel rooms are still easily available
Chris Kontos' 4 goal performance in the Lightning first ever game is still the team record for most goals in a game by a single player
"Atlanta! You now live in a hockey town!" . . . For 10 years.
I hope they come back
@@rileykazama3145 Probably not. After the Flames and Thrashers, I don't think the league is coming back to ATL.
@@xDuality007x it could happen with right ownership they could make it a success I'd love to see the Thrasher's come back
CMYK Technicolor yeah the old phrase. “fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me” comes to mind
Still a hockey town, but in the ECHL.
I’m glad there are more Ducks fans coming out to defend the Disney Era of the team. The mighty ducks movie is what got me into hockey and the Ducks team, made me love it.
Plus the original logo and colors are so good.
Disney definitely made their presence felt in sports with the Ducks. Considering they spent half a million dollars on the pregame show.
@@matt13r1 Also, Disney built the team that reached the finals in 2004 and won in 2007.
@@Pokemonmaster150b *2003
@@matt13r1 Oops, my bad. Yes, 2003.
2004 was when the Lightning won with Marty and Vinny.
I cried for the senators so goddamn funny. Edit: just watched the Anaheim team have a freaking Disney on ice or some
Damn, those Florida Panthers jerseys look amazing.
They're very 90s but I love the red and yellow together
Even as a Lightning fan, I have to agree.
Wish the jerseys were as good as the team 😔
If it wasn’t for the biggest trade in NHL History (Wayne Gretzky to Los Angeles), the game of hockey may never have grown to warmer-weather markets the way that it did. Whether or not you think Gretzky is the GOAT, that move had such a huge implication to hockey’s growth.
Man, those mighty ducks logo and jersey were perfect. Please Anaheim, make it happens
The egg-plant one's especially.
I'm pretty sure they can't really use those jerseys. Because Disney would sue them.
I'm pretty sure that's why.
@@NoahCookWPG98 no. The samuelis bought the ducks and inherited that logo. They can use it and have done so one time in 2014 I believe
@@NoahCookWPG98 you can look the game on RUclips it was against the sens in 2014 they were the eggplant Jerseys
SJ - The Cow Palace, San Francisco - what a name for an arena!
TB - Phil Esposito putting the hurt on one of his old clubs...
OTT & ANA - the bane of every hockey club, figure skaters prancing up and down, twatting about and ruining the ice!!
FLA - prominent positioning of the Blockbuster Video logo there, these boys will last a long time...
NSH - it's a surprise that the inaugural game took place, given that Music Row was nigh on destroyed by a rampaging crudely-CGI sabretooth tiger
ATL - "Atlanta, you have an NHL team!!" - like you did in 1972, and like before you'll lose this one because you'll tire of being the NHL's resident Guildford Flames tribute act.
MIN - I think this hockey game's quite popular in Minnesota, don't you?
VGK - quite a fitting tribute to the first responders, and a performance to match.
CBJ - Forgotten, as the usually are.
Brad Sparks - omg LOL!!
wasn’t the first florida owner the same guy who owned blockbuster? i know he owned the marlins
@@cdigames There was nothing really notable about the CBJ one. Well, they didn't add the cannon until like 2006...
The Panthers were almost called the Blockbusters at one point, believe it or not
As a habs fan, I burst out laughing when they announced Bergevin🤣😂😂
The Ducks intro was basically Disney on Ice. 😄
this video EXUDES 90s energy for the first 90% of it
The sens opener is blunder years worthy
Oh my gosh that theme from the Ottawa Senators sounds so good. I'm kind of surprised that they're still using that same theme back then even into today. Great video as always so keep up the great work.
Wow, I didn't realize that you got a Disney on Ice show before a Ducks game...
You Vegas definitely got me in the feels
Man, it feels so strange to see almost all of these home teams wearing white nowadays. It feels even stranger to see the Blackhawks’, Habs’, and Red Wings’ standard red and Flyers’ orange jerseys worn on the road. Also, remember when there were ties in the NHL?
Damn, so much has changed since then.
Ottawa: come look at my hockey team, dad
World: dang it, Bobby
Hahahahha
Am I the only person that got a bit teary-eyed during the debut of the Vegas Golden Knights?
my mom did
10:18 Wow I was not ready to see a young(er) Barry Trotz.
Me too!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I was at the CBJ game!
What was the final score
I don’t understand how Kontos never stuck around, he had an amazing year with Tampa
Kontos had 18 goals in the first 18 games, but only 9 goals the rest of the year. So 27 for the season, which was half the goals he ever scored in the NHL. He was basically a career minor leaguer who got a ton of ice time on an expansion team and got really hot for awhile.
That Nashville logo is gonna be in my nightmares tonight
I didn’t realize the Thrashers only existed for for just 12 years
I thought it was less
There's something interesting about bringing the NHL back to Atlanta: Back on March 1st, 2018 in an interview with Sportsnet 650, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman had allegedly made the remark that if there was any way possible that a new arena could be built by the home of the MLB’s Atlanta Braves, he would consider possibly giving Atlanta the 3rd try at the NHL as well of saying that it would work better in that area of town.
Say what you want to say about Atlanta not joining the league, but I think they will... after Seattle and Houston.
And all of these expansion teams no longer have their original logos, except Minnesota and Vegas. San Jose and Nashville has minor changes, and Atlanta is in Winnipeg.
No need to remind me.
I miss the old Tampa and SJ jerseys tbh
Also, Minnesota doesn't have their original logo. They removed the letters from the top of the logo.
@@stanmarsh8470 Well, it's just a minor change. But aside from that, it's still the same
Really no difference, but still kind of different. I wish Atlanta was back ngl.
Minnesota Wild raising the #1 banner to the rafters of the Xcel Energy Center retiring the #1 in honor of the fans who supported the team from the beginning.
In about 2 years, you'll have to update this video with the Seattle Kraken
I videotaped the Wild's first ever home game. It was a great game.
happy the rangers are an original six team and didn't have an intro like the sens
I’m a red wings fan and I’m glad that they were a original six team as well
What in God's name is the senators debut
Yo Anaheim too
And people think the name kraken is embarrassing
Cursed opening
Andy Campbell I think it’s cool probably better than some names
@@PickedByTrevon Its Disney though so it's not as jarring as Ottawa!
I think Ottawa and Anaheim were a bit too theatrical for my taste. Not sure how the crowds felts about it but probably not the type of skating they expected to see.
11:54 Nashville meet your new coach! The player who scored Nashville's first goal ever!!
I love the Sens one so much
Anyone notice that the second goal Kontos score was deflected off the defenseman. Kontos never touched the puck! So not a 4 goal night but 3.
Such a great compilation video!
It's unbelievable how the Golden Knights made the Stanley Cup Finals in their first year!
So did the blues but they got swept
@@scooptroop1828 not the same when the Blues' entire conference is just expansion teams so an expansion team was guaranteed to make the Stanley Cup at the time no matter what. Golden Knights was facing against fully established teams in their debut.
Marc Bergevin! The first player to appear for the Lightning XD
Every openings were amazing...then arrived Vegas
4:11 the original Brady #12
Only two franchises have won the Stanley Cup. Five franchises are runner-up.
Make that 4
The NHL Broke Atlanta After 10 Years
That sens opener is a fever dream
Geez, its no wonder nobody takes Ottawa seriously.
"Entertainment is every bit as important as performance" is a very interesting quote when you think about it
Can you do a video on what teams should come back? Prime example the Hartford whalers?
Once Kansas City get's it's inaugural NHL Hockey game at the now T-Mobile Center. I recommend heading to the basement or center part of your house.
And suddenly Vegas pre-game shows don't look so bad
I miss Atlanta
That senators intro was amazing
Holy 90s
And I thought Vegas’ pregame show was odd but nah senators got that one. Oh wait nvm mighty ducks secured that title
Ottawa debuted in a community civic centre...there are more fans in there then what they draw now.
Positioned it as "expansion" teams to weed out the Avalanche did we? :D
And Stars, and Coyotes. Expansion is a different thing than an existing team moving
Interestingly, OTT's first head coach was just in the Cup Final this year.
Jesus Christ those Pred's graphics are insane
I forgot how cheesy the Ducks one was.
Tampa missed their chance to have Mo come out on the rink and say here’s to all the snatch in FLA , “you ever been to the palm isle “
Wonderful video about the expansion teams. 🏒 🇺🇸 🇨🇦
I like how the Dallas stars were omitted from this video lol like wtf nhl?
They aren’t an “expansion” team, the team *moved* from Minnesota
Same thing for Avs and Yotes
I have so much nostalgia for the Blue Jackets debut as a kid in the early 2000s, but I realized we had nothing special until we added the cannon and nobody really cared about us until we swept the Lightning
Funny how BRADY on the Senators wears #12 lol
Plot twist: Its Tom Brady's long lost brother.
Vegas had the best and most emotional home opener in NHL history and its not even close
"Atlanta Are you ready to start something?"
start packing your bags, you’re going to a city without an airport
Why do I feel like the Senators was another Disney team
Sens music had me feeling like I was playing a 90s NHL video game
Man seeing Jeff Rimmer so young is crazy.
I know right
This is a die hard Duck fan who went to it’s first game
“I didn’t pay to see a ice show, I paid to see hockey”
Where were the canes at
Wait ... no Winnipeg? I know they existed before but they came back :(
10:24, it's crazy that Trotz is still coaching!
And he’s actually doing good. He put New York deep in. I was hoping for Leo Komarov to get a cup. But I also want Vassy & Mac to win. They deserve it.
I forgot about the ice man lol
What if at the ducks opener when they introduce the team at center Charlie Conway on offense Adam banks on offense Lester avermen in goal Greg goldburg and as there saying that the real cast of the mighty ducks in full uniform come onto the ice like they were going to actually play in the game
I think someone really needs to tell Ottawa that Senators and Centurions are different things...
The Vegas home opening ceremony instantly attached this beautiful city to the team.
Seeing the CBJ clip makes me miss the early 2000s
Awesome...👍👍👍
I miss the Miami Arena.
So all of these teams except the Thrashers still exist. And all of these teams except the Wild and the Thrashers have made it to a Stanley Cup Finals.
Columbus too.
@@aicrules9140 oh ya them too
14:30 the Minnesota one was pretty cool. They never should have lost an NHL team and, of all the expansion teams, you can tell who it meant the most to to have a team.
Can't even imagine how it felt for them to get the team back. Must have meant the world to hockey fans of Minnesota. I prefer the "North Stars" name, but since Dallas still has the "Stars" name, thats not ever going to happen. And yes, that intro was LEAGUES better than Ottawa and Anaheim...
I seriously wonder what Vegas was preparing if the shooting never happened...
Me too
