      Dear Chutney Bucket,
With all due respect, the book 'The Giver' is a racially motivated attack at the Southern Italian population of Australia. There are several horrific homophobic themes throughout, and I was honestly flabbergasted when reading the 'releasing' of the babies, which brought me to my knees in tears. I think you need to strongly consider getting in touch with me Chutney, as I am eager to further discuss this book in the mix of the pack. I would love to set-up an interview, and 'vent' my thoughts on this book.
      Cheers,
      Oswaldo Gimp

It’s not the same is it!! I loved reading but suffer with poor eyesight and whilst listening to audio book is a blessing I get “bored” if that makes sense. When reading your hands are holding and turning, your eyes are reading and your brain is engaged. It’s three dimensional. Listening is one dimensional, your eyes are looking at something else and your hands are redundant too it’s just not the same. I used to love be getting into bed early and settling down to a good book but now, because I still need it to be three dimensional I listen whilst doing the ironing or tidying so my hands and eyes are busy too. Or I love listening in the dark at night because my brain excepts that it’s just listening…… but I fall asleep and have to start over the following night. That’s the beauty of short stories 😂

Listening to an audio of the book helps you stay focused so when you're distracted, you don't stop reading it, so you cant get distracted. Perfect voice for the narrations! 1:-)

I remember reading this book when I was "an 11" and I still remember using my imagination to envision their community. As I listen to this today, I still remember (and am taken back) to that same world and exactly how I remembered it. Reading the text will help imprint the story into your mind much more so than listening to the story, I'm here to refresh my recollection and it really "takes you back." And that's why today's youth should read this book in print form first.

For anyone in the future with a similar problem, focus on a mindless task, like general cleaning, doing the dishes, or the laundry, occupy your hands and allow your mind to just listen as if you’re listening to get your mind off of the other task. As long as it’s a time consuming, repetitive task where you’d rather not do, it’s the perfect thing to keep your hands and body busy and your mind focused on listening. You’ll be 4 chapters into it before you even realize it.

Try doing something else whilst listening, I do ironing, tidying or driving. I also find it hard to just sit n listen. I was an avid book reader and have read probably over a thousand and it’s much easier to sit and read as opposed to listening because your hands and eyes are busy too and I find it near impossible to just sit and just listen whilst my hands and eyes sit idol😂 however it’s the easiest way to complete tasks when you’re listening to an audiobook, it also helps to quiet a busy mind or counter depression because it’s your mind that’s busy and your eyes n hands will welcome the task. It also helps massively with worry or anger because doing chores helps you to listen and listening helps you forget your woes long enough to give your brain and emotions a rest. Listening whilst walking is also a great way to concentrate on the story, whilst relieving the brain of worry n stress, the exercise is an added bonus too.

The Giver, a mesmerizing work of literature by Lois Lowry, stands as a true masterpiece that evokes profound questions about society, individuality, and the boundaries of human experience. With its richly woven narrative, this dystopian tale takes readers on a spellbinding journey through a meticulously crafted world that leaves an indelible mark on the imagination.
Set in a seemingly utopian society, the story focuses on twelve-year-old Jonas, a boy chosen to receive memories of the past from the community's wise yet enigmatic Elder, the Giver. The novel unfolds as Jonas embarks on his training, delving into the depths of an extraordinary gift of knowledge that reveals both the beauty and cruelty of the human experience.
Lowry's writing captivates from the very first page, painting a vivid picture of a society stripped of emotions, where individual choices are limited, and conformity is paramount. Her prose is simple yet profound, allowing readers to feel an intimate connection with Jonas and the struggles he faces as he questions the very foundation of the world he thought he knew.
The depth of character development in "The Giver" is truly remarkable. Jonas evolves from an innocent and naive child to a young individual awakened to the true meaning of life, love, and the importance of human connection. The supporting characters, including Jonas' best friend Asher, his love-interest Fiona, and the wise and mysterious Giver himself, add layers of complexity and humanity to the narrative, making each interaction and revelation all the more significant.
What sets this novel apart is Lowry's ability to tackle profound and thought-provoking themes. She scrutinizes the inherent dangers of a society that seeks to eliminate pain, fear, and choice, ultimately questioning the loss of human identity that comes with such total control. Lowry masterfully exposes the consequences of a world devoid of color, art, music, and individualism, leaving readers grappling with the fundamental questions of what it truly means to be alive.
While "The Giver" primarily resonates with the young adult audience, its themes and messages transcend age. The novel encourages readers to reflect upon their own society and consider the importance of individuality, free will, and the power of memory.
In conclusion, Lois Lowry's "The Giver" is a brilliant and thought-provoking masterpiece that casts a spell on readers, prompting us to question the very fabric of our existence. Lowry's elegant prose and deeply engaging characters lead us on an unforgettable journey, causing us to contemplate our own beliefs and values. This book deserves a place among the finest works of dystopian literature, leaving a lasting impact on all those fortunate enough to embark on its profoundly moving pages.

Kids this is one of the best books you will ever read in school and deals with bigger issues than you might understand or be interested in at this time. Many parents have tried to get this book banned for dealing with real issues. I don't expect you to be interested in every book you read in school but you should know that books are not homework or tests. You should be curious and want to read and learn and talk about it.

Honestly, I did this for a school thing, and I still genuinely love it. I love how the righting is quick, and things move on at such a nice pace. And I love how they still fit enough expressive writing to make you feel the way the characters feel. Lois Lowry is amazing!
