In the last few moments of this presentation, Yvon, states with certainty that climate change is our most formidable problem, and underlies all others. Has he noticed the skyrocketing number of individuals on the planet currently, and every since the two of us were born? To me, this is the issue that underlies all others.
To play devil's advocate, the same can be said for Gucci. I'm not too familiar with the phrase, but I think what people mean is it's expensive compared to budget rain jackets you can get elsewhere at stores like uniqlo, costco and walmart. You can also buy a decent rainjacket from those places and still adhere to yvon's philosophy by repairing it when it gets worn out. That said, it'll probably wear out faster than usually more well-made products from companies like patagonia (although some patagonia products are not without their durability concerns, read up on the stitching and pilling issues on the micro puff for example). So I can understand the "PataGucci" diminutive name-calling, though I don't agree with it myself. I also thought Yvon's response was pretty great at 50:30.

There is broad scientific consensus about the Climate Crisis. 91 to 97 percent of academic studies into climate change come up with the same conclusion; it is man made, and we are making it worse. If consensus that broad does not constitute due dilligence, I do not know what does.
While I do have great respect for Yvon and his achievements and contributions to the world, I have to make the following comment and I hope he fucking reads it too: Mr. Chouinard, I've been a Patagonia (and both Chouinard Equipment and Black Diamond) customer since the mid-80s. I still am. But I have had some problems with your company and have written personal letters to your office, *addressed specifically to you* , at least 3 times (might have been 4 or 5). Each of those was about what I perceived as a serious problem. Not once did I receive a response of any kind, not even a form letter. While I would doubt the letters made it to you personally, they were still to your office, and about pretty serious matters. Whether you read them or not, this is something that reflects on you directly, there can be no doubt about it. It makes you and your organization seem monolithic and uncaring towards the very community that got you where you are today. I'm long time climber, alpinist, fisherman, and backpacker from California, just like you. I have climbed in many of the same places, and very likely even know two or three people who you know. You may be living in an ivory tower of sorts with your hundreds of millions or whatever, but to shit upon your core customer base by ignoring their serious complaints is fucked up, man. And if you cannot control your employees to respond decently to letters addressed to your own office, you are a bad businessman too. You are making a big mistake acting like that.
