      Hello Tyler 23. If you go to your radio and look under sources or "more" on the bottom left hand side, does it list Bluetooth audio as an option?

    Without using Android Auto how can I connect my phone to my 2021 Blazer and see my text messages over my SirusXM radio?

    • @gmbullfrog1004
      @gmbullfrog1004  3 года назад +1

      Hello Tina. That is a very good question. My guess is that you need to let your phone know that it is allowed to share your messages to your vehicle. Depending on your phone, this will be located somewhere in your Bluetooth settings. What you are looking for is "show notifications" or "allow messages" something along those lines. Then your phone should share text once connected via Bluetooth. Side note, your phone may have a "do not disturb" while driving feature. This must be turned off to receive calls and text while the vehicle is in motion.

    Okay, here’s my issue, speaking on behalf of a brand new owner. We have a brand new 2020 Chevy Blazer with an iPhone connected via Bluetooth. The contacts, recents calls and everything are displayed on the infotainment system. However the push to talk on the steering wheel will not work. Upon pressing and holding the button, I’ll hear Siri chime for a split second but it’ll immediately go back to the radio. One thing I have noticed in troubleshooting this is there’s no voice option in the system settings. Surely they shouldn’t have to rely on operating a touchscreen while driving or be required to plug into Apple CarPlay 100% of the time for this...? Thinking the system needed an update, as there’s also no myLink app, I tried to connect to the internet and run that but it won’t even connect to close WiFi. I’m just lost at what else I can try for them without a return trip to the dealership which is nearly 2 hours away.

      Do you have an active ON-Star account? The Chevrolet MyLink and In-Vehicle WIFI are powered by ON-Star. If you do not have an active ON-Star subscription, you wont be able to use these services. As far as the calling, are you holding the button down throughout the whole calling process, or are you letting go once you hear the chime?

    • @FantasticWhit84
      @FantasticWhit84 4 года назад

      GM Bullfrog, yes, they use both Chevy mylink and onstar for multiple vehicles purchased through one rep at the same dealership. When I first troubleshooted this issue, onstar blamed the dealership and vice versa. They took the car back to the dealership today after experiencing some additional issues with the car. This was shown to them and even multiple reps at the service department couldn’t get their phones working using voice activation, Android and iOS. It’s going to be several days before they hear anything back on it due to cutbacks in the service department for right now because of the pandemic.

      Dang Whit. That is an unfortunate ordeal. We have been experiencing some delays in our service/parts department as well with everything that is going on in the world. I hope they get your problem resolved for you. It sounds like you might have gotten a bad egg unfortunately. If you don't mind, let me know what you find out since this is the first I am hearing of this problem. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

    So I tried your suggestion and that doesn't work. If I connect to AA the text messages come through but I can't "hear" the notification, I can only see a notification in the lower right of my screen (which in my opinion is defeating the purpose of keeping your eyes on the road). When the text comes in initially the notification symbol is muted. I can't find anywhere where I can unmute the notification. I've have looked tirelessly for a solution and it seems Google doesn't care about this particular problem.

      Sorry Tina. I don't think I can help you with your problem with out seeing your phone and your vehicle. My only advice would be to ask your sales person. If they are honest, they should be happy to look into it for you.

      @@gmbullfrog1004thanks for all your help, I was so desperate that I was going to drive down to your dealership, that's how desperate I was (we live right outside of Chicago) but we finally figured it out. It's my phone, I have a Google Pixel 3XL, it's not compatible with the AA. My husband's Motorola Z2 works great so when I can upgrade my phone I'm going to make sure it's compatible with AA before I purchase it. :)

    Bullfrog,
    Thinking og getting a Chev. Do all the Android Auto functions work whether on bluetooth or plugged in, especially nav map?
    To call, do you press the voice button of the car or say "ok google., call John Smith"?
    Thanks

      That is a good questions Jeff and I intend on making a video for voice commands that I haven't had time to do yet. To answer your question, it depends on the vehicle you are purchasing. Some 2021's have the ability to use wireless Apple Carplay/ Android Auto, but most do not. All Chevrolet's do offer WIRED Apple Carplay/ Android Auto. When you are connected with these services, you can use voice commands such as "ok google" as long as your phone has this capability. Hope this answers your question Jeff.

      @@gmbullfrog1004 Thanks. Would prefer built in nav but they're pretty rare in the cars we're studying. Going to look at 2020 Equinoxes. I guess that plugging the phone in isn't a big deal. I guess I'll find out today.

    • @gmbullfrog1004
      @gmbullfrog1004  3 года назад +1

      You are Welcome Jeff. In vehicle navigation is convenient and less wires are always better. However, "in-vehicle" navigation does not give you up-to-date directions. It is pre programmed with routes to the date the vehicle was built, so it will not show accidents, detours, or any other alterations to your routes. That is the biggest benefit to using Apple Carplay/ Android Auto or ONstar. Those will give you real time directions which is why you see manufactures moving away from the traditional "in-vehicle" navigation.

      @@gmbullfrog1004 Thanks. Bought the 2020 Chev Equinox with built in nav and a free month of Onstar. Recently got message from Onstar stating their free service is ending unless I subscribe. I'll do without them.
      Note that my Android LG phone does not like the Chev's wireless charging. Does not charge and causes phone's bluetooth to turn off.

    • @gmbullfrog1004
      @gmbullfrog1004  3 года назад

      The wireless chargers can be a bit "sensitive" for lack of better words. If you have a phone case on, try taking the case off and that may help with charging. As far as turning Bluetooth off, that is a new one for me.

    To receive and read a SMS message, How can do that?

    • @gmbullfrog1004
      @gmbullfrog1004  4 года назад

      Hello Halle. This really depends on what vehicle you have. In relevance to this video, there may be a few routes you can take. When you connect your phone via Bluetooth, check your phone settings to make sure your phone is allowing your vehicle to access your text messages. If this does not work, you can always plug your phone directly into the vehicle with a charge cable and use Android Auto/Apple Carplay to display your phone directly to the screen. Let me know if this helps you.
