Our 11 year old has just declared herself a furry, and at first, I was a bit worried. I thought it was a way to hide behind a mask and avoid people and reality. She is VERY artistic and creative and coincidentally loves all of her stuffed anilmals (she has literally hundreds!) THANK YOU for offering a different perspective. Good to know there are other moms out there that embrace this. Thank you for educating us newbies. I have always told my children I will love and accept them no matter what (as long as they aren't harming themselves or others) and I would much rather see my child experiment with this than so many other things. So, THANK YOU. 😌

I bet your mom loves you a lot. Parents with boundaries and rules for their children love them. That is how you know they love you. It's easy to let your kids do whatever they want. It's harder to raise them up correctly.

And maybe someone who has an interest in anthro based characters I.E. someone who you see where's like a head band that you can buy at a store thats looks feline?) Also the term you were looking for for the person on all fours is a quadroped. 😊

The suit that is only all fours is a quadsuit, two legs would be a digigrade (the legs look like the animal is standing on their hind legs a.k.a. bigger thighs & hips) or plantigrade. Plantigrade is about the same size and with as pants, there is not stuffing like digigrade, just your legs.

I told my mom I was a furry about a year ago, our family is christian so..my mom really thought it was like you wanna be a beast and stuff..I told her it was to express yourself more and feel more confident, she kinda got it..then a year past and she forgot everything I practically said, I was shocked! I guess I have only been in the fandom for about a year and a half ish, I love making yarn tails and ears and everything and I like wearing them in public, I will probably not get a fursuit til I am about 17-19 :,) I will so show this to my mom, because you amazing parents are great at explaining and how is should be explained, Thanks!!! While not typically used for more common interests like sports or music groups, it applies across the board to communities of fans based around TV Shows, super heroes, books, and film series! (Ex: Harry Potter, Spider Man, Star Trek, etc.) Furries are fans of anthropomorphic animals-animal characters with human characteristics. This can be from anything more animal like Lion King or the Warriors books by Erin Hunter (a style called feral I’ll describe later) or movies like Zootopia, Disney’s Robin Hood, and characters like Sonic! Usually, the term “anthro” is applied to these latter styles because the characters resemble human culture, walk on their hind legs, wear clothes, etc. However, it would be more accurate to call the style bipedal. This doesn’t just apply to suits so much as it applies to art and stories. Feral styles of furries emphasize the natural anatomy of an animal, favoring their more natural gait, pose, and proportions. I went to a con in 2019 I believe but now that I look back I realize that my parents might’ve been really uncomfortable, I feel bad for them since ow as younger and since I have a little brother they might’ve been a little worried about me or my brother getting taken- anyways, I recently got back into the fandom and I want to go to another con but I’m afraid to ask since they might say no and I don’t really want to get upset over that- anyone know an easy way to ask their parents if they can go to a con? A cry for help lmao

another sub-set of furries r called fishies!!!! as the name suggests, its basically just marine furries. As an example, my fursona is a black ribbon eel, so he would be considered a fishy. Of course, you are able to call yourself a furry if you prefer that label.
