    My wife cans and has for years, but we are in our seventies. This video makes me optimistic that at least some of the younger generation is keeping this old tradition alive. That kitchen is awesome.

    Wonderful! That's the way to do it. Reminded me of summers when I was a kid in the 50s and my mom and grandma would can bushels of veggies and fruit from our garden and trees. Love how your children pitch in and help with tasks they can handle, much as we did then. That's an incredible set up you have there too. Wish you and Paul all continued happiness and success!

    A canning kitchen is a great idea and would be a dream come true for many cooks. I am guessing you have plenty of pantry space for all that healthy canned food. Yor garden looks great. Busy, busy! I noticed you filling the jars inside the canner--another great idea and very efficient. I never thought of it, clever girl!

    between Emily's cooking and Paul the great hunter did you ever think about putting a small walk in cooler- freezer combination off the back 9f the kitchen? would be easier on the electric bill and save space in the canning kitchen. PS note to self don't watch this if your hungry, it'll make you hungrier

    • @MrPostFrame
      @MrPostFrame  3 года назад +1

      We totally did... after we installed the radiant heat! We kinda wish we had converted the pantry to be a walk in cooler.

  • @wallykramer7566

    Emily: How do you feel about the lack of a range hood? I see you had the window open during some of the "mass" boilings. Is there anything else you are missing? For example, maybe a large work table which the washer/dryer seems to be standing in for at present.

  • @dereksellars
    @dereksellars 3 года назад +1

    You need a HUGE cutting board :)

  • @joequixotic3039
    @joequixotic3039 3 года назад +1

    I'm thinking about something similar for preparing bar-b-que (butchering carcasses) and maybe a little canning on the side.
    Do you think one big stove has an advantage or could two smaller stoves give you more elbow room?
    I'll probably start with one stove and it will be the cheapest thing I can find and convert to propane but it will mainly be used for searing meat and prepping sides.

    • @MrPostFrame
      @MrPostFrame  3 года назад

      I think it depends on the situation. I love the larger cooktop since canning pots are usually oversized- gives more room for them to heat properly. A regular 30" range usually doesn't heat as fast or as evenly.

  • @mikecoventon8217
    @mikecoventon8217 3 года назад

    Are you able to swap the door hinges on the refrigerator? would make for a better work flow back to the cooktop if the door opened right to left?

  • @johnnyb8629
    @johnnyb8629 3 года назад +1

    That's really cool, I've watched this before but seen it done with a big pressure cooker thing, what's the difference? How long can a jared vegetable last? Year, 5 years? I want Paul to show us how he renders his Deer and make Deer jerky,...

    • @MrPostFrame
      @MrPostFrame  3 года назад

      Pressure canning does more cooking, so you need to do that for some items like canned meat, etc. Acidic vegetables need more of a seal so the water bath method is usually the recommended procedure. We'll do something with our pressure canner this season and show it. Deer processing is on our list too!

    • @MrPostFrame
      @MrPostFrame  3 года назад

      Good rule of thumb is to use things up within a year or so. We might have overdone it on the pickles, but if they're tasty they'll come with us every time we visit friends haha

      Guessing once we do everything we plan in the garden it'll be over 200. The relish is all in cup jars, but everything else is going to mainly be quart.

    • @staudtj1
      @staudtj1 3 года назад

      @@MrPostFrame Typical water heaters are 30' - 40000 btu's an require a vent. That Bad-boy commercial range/oven combo can far exceed that so an exhaust is best practices.....
