If you live in Thailand then Phuket is very expensive. I lived there for 18 months then moved to Jomtien Beach. My rent is half what I paid in Phuket and my condo is 25 sq mths larger in Jomtien. My food and drinks bills are heaps cheaper and I can get a baht bus anywhere for 10 baht. ( In Phuket 200 baht even if you are going only 100 metres down the road TAXI MAFIA ) . I can get the Jomtien to Bangkok airport bus for 140 baht . In Phuket Patong to airport 1000 baht. The only thing Phuket has going for it are the beaches. It’s full of tourists and has lost its Thai feeling. I would not go back to Phuket for love nor money. Bear in mind I live in Thailand full time so not interested in being ripped off.
I was in Kata for a week over Xmas the prices were on par with Pattaya, beers were 70-85baht, accommodation which was twice the size of Eddie's room and on two levels was 800 baht, with Kata beach a two & a half minute walk away and right in amongst the nightlife with Soi Spiderman about a 2-3 mins walk away.
US expat. Lived in Phuket , Rawai, for 4 1/2 years. We had a small house, then a small 2 bedroom apt. Each was about $200/month. The food there wasn't overly expensive. Moved in November to a quieter place in Tland. Didn't want to deal with the crowds or traffic. Food in Phuket more expensive, but not prohibitive.
Eddie, I stayed in a very good hotel close to Kata Beach at £27 per night. If you stayed either in Kata or Karon beach areas you may get better prices for good hotels. Now Bangkok is my 2nd favourite city that I have been to after KL (Malaysia) and I've travelled to many amazing cities around the world including Rome, Lisbon, Barcelona, Seville, Athens, Florence, Venice, Istanbul, Tokyo, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha, New York, Paris, Jakarta and Cairo. Didn't include London as I'm a fellow Brit myself.
i spent a month in chiang mai recently, then headed to phuket for a week, and i was shocked. everything and i mean everything was at least 3 times the price
Agreed...i just dont understand this video.prices are so high in phuket compared with others in thailand, yet eddies saying they are reasonable! 38 qiud for a hotel.pattaya similar 16 quid!
I agree to some extent. I haven't been to Phuket which is why I watched the video. As I regularly get cold beers for 50cents in Phnom Penh restuarants, 7.30USD for a beer in a gentleman's club seems like extortion. But in Edie's defense: His video is supplies the actual prices, not just his own opinion on the cost of these items. So his video is 'infa mative' enough for you to draw you own conclusions. Thank you for the Video Mr Sweeney.
As an Irishman one thing I tend to do in the (far) east, wether it's in Japan or Thailand is avoid Irish pubs. Why would I want to pay for expensive Guinness or Heineken when I can drink excellent Kirin, Asahai, Sapporo or Chang, Singha and Leo much cheaper? Although I admit going into one in Bangkok on one occasion for an early bird discounted Irish breakfast!! Same with restaurants, I avoid Mcds, Burger King and Starbucks at all costs unless I'm really desperate for WiFi. All the beautiful food in the east does my head in and returning to Tesco and Sainsbury's is very depressing here! That hotel was pricey alright Ed, but as you said it's probably the location. I'd like to visit Phuket again one day and a couple of those paradise Islands you went to. Koh Lipe etc. Cheers!
Eddie, thanks so much for this informative and honest video, as always. It's good to know your own experience of prices generally, and I found this reassuring. I am visiting Phuket, Chiang Mai and Hua Hin in the next few weeks (after a few years' absence), so it will be interesting to make comparisons between these places. Cheers!
Ed, if you just turn up at most hotels in Thailand and go to reception and book a room you tend to find the prices are a little cheaper than booking on line, I've found this over the years....room looked good by the way pal.
Just seen this video Eddie informative prices are a bit different to where i live in Udon Thani but I think I'll have a trip been in Thailand 16 years but never been to Phuket cheers keep em coming 👍👍
I’ve been to Singapore, Tokyo, Seoul, Macau and Hong Kong over the last few years and all are cheaper than London if your prepared to stay in low end budget accommodation, you can find really reasonably priced restaurants and food malls everywhere in these cities too!
And oh what food! I've just been to Tokyo and Bangkok. Although they are very different both have incredible variety of food. Even the supermarket or 7/11 Lawson's and Family Mart are mouth watering!
Hey Steady Eddy, I was wondering, do you have any videos on how you plan your trips? You always seem to know how to get here and there. Places to go? Do you have any devoted videos to just planning your trips? Thanks man, your videos rock.
Hi Ed with many business's being continually sold on the only way is up!! the more Baht of course When people invest they want their return & that is what it is "Phuket Holiday Island Business". Come from cold Europe it's beautiful so many are happy to pay
Thanks for your review! Would be also good to know about the prices for „companionship“. Barfines were already very high at Bangla Road a few years ago.
Thanks for the video. Have been 4 times in Patong (2009 - 2018). I think the prices were acceptable, all things considered. When I go on holiday I'm also willing to spend a lot of money - it's a holiday after all. Robertsen, Norway.
Good video...Good morning steady eddy. If you compare the prices to western countries they are good. If you compare them to Pattaya prices they are expensive. You of course know this as a Pattaya veteran...(:0) The Irish bar all day breakfast is 350 baht in your video. You can get that same breakfast with OJ and fresh brewed mug of coffee for 119 baht at Cheap Charlies on Soi Buakhao and you get excellent service...
I found Phuket to be reasonable value, you have got to be more aware about scams and tourist traps. You are correct, people say Phuket is ridiculously expensive, they are exaggerating massively. Phuket is a little cheaper than Bangkok and a bit more expensive than Pattaya, in my experience.
Thank you Eddie for price update. Totally agree with you reference Phuket pricing, slightly above average, but nothing more than you would pay in most holiday places. Thai food, street food, is a lot cheaper, and my prefered option, plenty of happy hours, in the bars. You can allways buy a few beers in 7/11, sit on beach, watch the sun go down. Hotel cost is ok, remember central location, bars, beach, 7/11, food. Agree taxi, tuk tuk, are to be avoided. Walk is best option, do not dice with injury using motorbikes, if not legal, and confident. As I usualy stay in Rawai area, A motorbike is a must, but I have over 30 years experience, confident rider. Still remembering anything can happen, so ride defensively, and be aware. Allways have your country's motorbike licence, and international driving licence with you, or a laminated copy, wear a helmet, never hire above 125cc. Get approval from your home travel insurance, to include this cover. Regarding ladies, famous saying, up to you... but be aware of cost's involved, never are as cheap as some say. Relax and enjoy Thailand, I certainly do.
295 baht for a dollop of mash, a miniscule portion of pea's and a pasty is £7+ , which frankly is shockingly expensive. I stayed in Kata a few miles further in and the price's are comparable to Pattaya, even the accommodation. I had a double level room with twice as much floor space in quality dark wood, large bathroom, balcony for a paltry 800 baht a night for a week over Xmas! Two or three mins from both beach and nightlife. With meal's averaging 70-120 baht.
@@baconoverflow4384 No, the café owner's realise that it's the kind of food that foreigners eat and place a premium price on it, particularly in Phuket. You'd get the same meal in Pattaya for 150 baht.
Good all round view of Patong from Steady Eddie. The only thing that’s expensive in Patong is ladies and tuk tuks. Everything else is still cheap if you have a look around. You should have stayed at The Yorkshire , very central and comfortable hotel.
Thanks , I went to Patong beach for a week a couple of years back ,not for me , a bit too full on , I’d love to go to Ko Lipe though , that looks superb , also Ko Samui is supposed to be beautiful.
Hi Eddie, sorry to hear your journey is coming to an end . Back in UK 🇬🇧 will you be still vlogging? What's your job or are you retired now? Where in the North are you living?
I think you can book a room like this for half the price and more in patong. Even during high season. With 40 euros a night Patong bay hill is an awsone price in low season. But i guess prices are still high in febuary. Try staying on nanai Road next time more decsent prices and not that far from main road or bangla.
Enjoyed the video. I don't think Patong is particularly expensive. Of course, a lot more than Pattaya, but most places in Thailand are. You need to go there outside the super-peak season if you want to save money. I usually stay on Soi Sansabai where you went to the Yorkshire Hotel for a bite to eat. I normally only pay 600-1000 THB depending on the hotel quality and time of year. Actually, if you move a bit back from the beach and Bangla Rd., you can get reasonably priced beer, food, accommodation, and the all-important night time companionship. I prefer OTOP and Soi Bel Air than Bangla Rd. Nicer relaxed vibe, cheaper beer, friendly, but not aggressive, staff and no rubberneckers with condescending scowls that you get in the evening on Bangla Rd. Have a safe trip!!
Yea if you’re not in high season, you’re paying 4/600 a night a night. I was paying 400 a night, 3 minutes walk from the Yorkshire, last July, in a hotel with a bigger and nicer hotel than Eddies. I pay 90 baht a beer in most of the bars I go… It’s really not that expensive, if you know the area and know the money traps… Like coconuts or fruit smoothies from the beach vendors are 150. Go to the little bar on beach road and it’s 60 baht a fruit smoothie…
Phuket room prices have definitely gone up. I was in Patong over five years ago around September and got a much nicer room with rooftop pool for around AU$30. Think the same room there now is around AU$100. Janurary 2022 I booked a really nice place with a pool ten minutes from the beach at around AU$30 a night on a monthly basis. Had to cancel due to the covid madness. Beers seem reasonable. I imagine the ladies don't come cheap there. I'd get around on the back of a Grab bike or use the smart bus for trips between beaches. Never been to Pattaya but seems much better value. Luckily I like local Thai food and rarely slurge on a 530 baht roast.
I get sick of people going on about Phuket being expensive. I'm in New Zealand, if I went for a holiday in a beach town here id be paying 130USD for a very basic hotel room, $8 USD a beer, $15 USD for a short taxi ride and $20 USD for a basic meal out. Interest in some female company? that'll be $200 USD for an hour. How bout a no happy ending massage? that will be $75 USD. Relative to the west, all of Thailand is dirt cheap.
Yep but compared to the rest of Thailand Phuket is super expensive. I lived there for 18 months and now live in Jomtien Beach which I reckon is half the price of Phuket i.e. rent, food, bar drinks and of course the big one transport. Baht bus cost me 10 baht to go anywhere here but in Phuket 200 baht to go 100 metres. Just a blatant rip off. I also notice Eddie paid about $12 Australian for a pastie ,mash and peas when I was back in Aus in October last year my local bakery were only charging $5 for a pastie and Australia is as dear as poison to live in. Phuket for tourists but not to live in permanently.
Edd my friend just got back he pays 10 000 per month for patong he goes every year in November stays for a month but you can find a local Thai girl to get you a deal for a month
Ed, would you advise someone’s first trip to Phuket for their for trip to Thailand? I’m looking to come Thailand for my first time at Xmas and new year, this year. I’m just not sure where to start my first visit. I’m a party lad, love beers, naughty nights out, Also don’t mind day trips! I’m just not sure to experience which part of Thailand to explore first. Pattaya, Phuket or anywhere else you’d advise? 🍻 🤔
Alright Ed, this year i went further north to Khoa Lak which is good, but not that lively, not a massive fan of Phuket, did have good time around the market bar area last time i was there, stayed in the Amari at the end of the beach, had a look at the prices of the Amari this year and couldnt believe it, expected a knuckle shuffle every night thrown in for what they wanted😎
The Yorkshire brekkies are also great , a bit more expensive than elsewhere but we'll worth it ....there's a swiss owned hotel across the road that does nice schnitzel and other stuff ... recommend it if your worried about getting food poisoning ...
I must admit. I used to say Phuket is bloody expensive, but at the time I was getting a bar girl every night and going to the more expensive restaurants, nightclubs, massages, etc. I was pretty blasé while I was in Phuket at the time.
Just looking on bookings, I can get into a resort for 10 nights for Around 500 Australian, with a pool, can not imagine being there and not having a pool, and I also can not imagine eating that ordinary English stodgy food when you have the amazing night street food available really cheap, I've been there 8 times and that would be the last sort of food I would be interested in
The room you showed is small and expensive but the premium is probably the location. As you say 10 minutes from where you want to walk. Last time we stayed in Phuket we had a car so for similar money had huge rooms, breakfast etc excellent pools and gym etc but you have to travel to the beach or Bangla road.
Was there in 220 it's expensive stayed in two different places facing the beach was t great and expensive stayed in a 2 bed villa in Pattaya for the same price was fleeced a few times in the big bar complex that's was my fault it's also younger crowd would not suit someone in their 60 ths
DEFINITION FOR EFFICIENT (1 OF 1) adjective performing or functioning in the best possible manner with the least waste of time and effort; having and using requisite knowledge, skill, and industry; competent; capable: a reliable, efficient assistant. Satisfactory and economical to use: Our new air conditioner is more efficient than our old one. Producing an effect, as a cause; causative. Utilising a particular commodity or product with the least waste of resources or effort (usually used in combination): a fuel-efficient engine.
Sounds like you was staying at The Efficient Hotel but as you say it's Location Location Location, boozing in Thailand is not very cheap anymore but it's still a lot Cheaper than the UK.Cheers
Can’t compare Phuket with Pattaya, much more scenic with wonderful white sand beaches. Pattaya is the better option to live as it’s cheaper and more convenient.
Transportation (taxis) are expensive in Phuket versus say Bangkok or Pattaya. Accomodation is reasonably priced. I stayed in one of the hotels In Patong in August 2022, it was $USD 11 per night. Food is reasonably priced. If you like buffet food, I would say Bangkok is much better for buffet food. Avoid jet skis and dodgy salespeople that approach you around Bangla Road.
If you live in Thailand then Phuket is very expensive. I lived there for 18 months then moved to Jomtien Beach. My rent is half what I paid in Phuket and my condo is 25 sq mths larger in Jomtien.

I’m a party lad, love beers, naughty nights out,
Also don’t mind day trips!
I’m just not sure to experience which part of Thailand to explore first. Pattaya, Phuket or anywhere else you’d advise? 🍻 🤔
Pattaya is the way to go if you party a lot
@@grigorirasputin425 thanks 👍🏻
@@alfgarnet1264 no problem. Phuket is more like a family resort and it is not what you looking for
Pattaya is probably a good place to start, but it's not as nice as some other places in Thailand.
@@STEADY599 cheers mate 👍🏻
Alright Ed, this year i went further north to Khoa Lak which is good, but not that lively, not a massive fan of Phuket, did have good time around the market bar area last time i was there, stayed in the Amari at the end of the beach, had a look at the prices of the Amari this year and couldnt believe it, expected a knuckle shuffle every night thrown in for what they wanted😎
That tiny roast potato must have felt very lonely before you swallowed it whole!
Last time in Patong was 2006. Then I was getting 70 baht. Today its 41.49. OUCH!!
Never could understand why you have so much luggage😂🙈?
Just curious. How much would it cost to buy a 12er at a 7/11 and drink it in your hotel room?
Should of got the ferry from songkla to pattaya good trip
Hi Edd. In a word.....Was Phuket worth the visit for you with costs taken into consideration????
Yes
Star bar has been my favourite place in Phuket over the last week! We were probably there on the same night 😂
Great live band venue. Hope you're having a great time, Barry.
Oh Raquel Welsh has passed away Eddy, what a woman you got to give her a mention mate , simply one of the greatest 👍🍺🍺🍺
nice one Ed
Thanks, Brian.
??? anxious to wot (!) the Sunday Roast was priced ?!?
hypothetical hypothesizing (!) it was expensively in.. la grandeur du gourmet !?!
So the hotel was twice the price of The Vogue where I meet you in November
Patong is expensive but other areas eg chalong and pkuket town are similar to the rest of Thailand
But are they any fun?
@@STEADY599 they're more chilled out, but still plenty of bars around and the birds are cheaper!
How you feeling now mate
Still far from 100%

how many hotels have you stayed at in your life... must be up over 500
Nearly £3 for a bottle of lager is not cheap….
At least that hotel is better value compared to the mosquito infested shack you rented for the same price
Yes, I agree
Great video Edward 👍
Sounds like you was staying at The Efficient Hotel but as you say it's Location Location Location, boozing in Thailand is not very cheap anymore but it's still a lot Cheaper than the UK.Cheers
Can’t compare Phuket with Pattaya, much more scenic with wonderful white sand beaches. Pattaya is the better option to live as it’s cheaper and more convenient.
Transportation (taxis) are expensive in Phuket versus say Bangkok or Pattaya. Accomodation is reasonably priced. I stayed in one of the hotels
In Patong in August 2022, it was $USD 11 per night. Food is reasonably priced. If you like buffet food, I would say Bangkok is much better for buffet food. Avoid jet skis and dodgy salespeople that approach you around Bangla Road.
As far as a bar girl is concerned you are only as good as your wallet
