  • Excerpts from Scottie Pippen’s memoir still have social media buzzing yesterday as Pippen didn’t hold back about how he felt about Michael Jordan and his documentary “The Last Dance.” Some people are criticizing Pippen for calling out the teammate that helped turn him into a household name, while others are sticking up for Pippen's important role on the Chicago Bulls' dynasty. Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe debate whether Pippen's career is overrated or underrated.

And the words they use to attack him are going to visceral because he loves to pick ONE event and make that their entire career and slam with with emotions. He will never answer Shannon’s question he will just say “well yea”. Where ever Jason Whitlock is that is where Skip needs to go. He is Pippen and Shannon is Jordan

      skip forgets how vital pippen was to the 1991-1993 bulls...when he was a true superstar..yes by 1998 he started to be a bit over the hill on offense...but late 1990-mid1997 pippen is one of the best two way wing players for a 7 year stretch in nba history and thats a fact....he was not just mj's sidekick he was legit a top 1a at worst 1b wing in the nba every year of that span next to peak grant hill a few hairs better than james worthy and better than chris mullin glen rice peak larry johson peak robert horry reggie lewis...and it was not even close between him and those guys in those 6 years for who you would rather have...grant hill was the only one who came close and it was clear hill was 2nd to pippen on the wing due to defense...and hill was basically a walking 21.5 9 7 and 2 a night on 48% fg for a 5 year stretch

Wilt scored over 50 per game in the 1961-62 season but did not win a championship. That's WAY higher than what Jordan ever averaged. In fact, it's like he got what Jordan averaged and scored another 20 (basically like having another player), but it didn't matter. He averaged over 30 for the next 5 seasons after that (getting 44 points per game in 1962-63), but he didn't win. By the way I like this story (told by former teammate Chris Hodges): “I can remember this time in, I think, 1990 when Scottie decided to challenge Michael one day in practice. Michael kind of backed up for a half-second. Then he proceeded, literally, to score on Scottie at will. It was incredible. Pippen picked up his dribble way too easy to control an offense fulltime. He just wasnt a consistent offensive threat to be a #1. I watched 250-300 Bulls games in the 90s, Pippen hit his ceiling and should be glad he got the chance with Jordan. There were a dozen players that could fill Pippin's role and just one Jordan.

    God these guys are dense. The reason they mention 94 and show how scottie failed his teammates is to setup the 98 finals moment where he guts-out a crippling injury to stay on the floor and contribute to the victory. It's a learn from failure and ultimately succeed story arch - just like the entire rest of the doc.
    I mean, you can say "what did that have to do with 98?" About a lot of things... Why did they need to go into Micheal's gambling to tell that 98 story? They didn't. It's just a non-favorable look setting up a favorable one. That's how you do captivating storytelling. And why the Last Dance was so good.

    All great players had teammates that will never get their full credit. The truly great players get most of the credit for winning and pretty much all the blame for losing. MJ was dominating before Pippen ascended into a star, but Pippen needed MJ so he could be a star. As long as MJ acknowledged Pippen as his greatest teammate ever, take it for what it is bro. You don’t see McHale complaining Larry Bird gets most of recognition or James Worthy with Magic.

    • @jessekittrell2946
      @jessekittrell2946 2 года назад

      Not true at all. Pip was RAPIDLY developing before he ever met MJ. He only made his college team as a MANAGER as a favor lol... he was that bad. Yet a few years later as a senior he was an ALL CONFERENCE PLAYER who an NBA team drafted as high as 5th & then another team traded for. He hit a very late growth spurt so he ended up being a 6'8-6'9"ish player that had developed really good Forward rebounding/defense skills with guard skills like passing/ball handling and got better & better at scoring.
      Did MJ have an affect on him.... of course... all the great greats do on their teammates. But to say Pip needed MJ to be a star.... the evidence suggests he could have been one without MJ. They needed each other to become NBA champions though for sure. Lotta people don't know out of their 6 Finals Pip ped the Bulls in 3 or more of the 5 main categories (points/rbs/assists/stls/blocks) in FOUR of their Finals.... MJ only did in 1 (as a comparison Lebrons don't it in 8).
